>Advice for new runners:- Build up speed and mileage SLOOOOOWLY (start with 15 minutes, increase mileage at most 10% per week);- It will feel like you're going slow, you are; don't worry about setting good times for a couple of months;- If you start to feel pain anywhere, stop and rest;- Don't try to copy what pros are doing. Do what feels natural; and- Once you can comfortably roon 6 miles/10km, start thinking about a goal in terms of race distance and time, and look for a training plan for that goal (see below for suggested plans).>Couch to 5k/Bridge to 10k Guideshttps://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/running-and-aerobic-exercises/get-running-with-couch-to-5k/https://i.imgur.com/ef98R.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/qNJIy.png>I want to run a fast 5k, 10k, half-marathon, or marathonhttps://www.runningfastr.com/https://www.halhigdon.com/cock and ball torturehttps://sites.google.com/view/sub-threshold/home>I want to stretchhttps://www.runnersworld.com/uk/training/beginners/a32172701/how-to-stretch-post-run/>Performance calculatorshttps://runbundle.com/tools/age-grading-calculatorhttps://vdoto2.com/calculator/https://runrepeat.com/how-do-you-masure-up-the-runners-percentile-calculatorhttps://lactrace.com/norwegian-singlesprevious: >>76769483

>no cock and ball torture:(>>76797216>>76797226It's more about your aerobic system becoming more efficent. Your aerobic system is the biggest player in being successful in distance. This is developed with mostly zone 2 runs. Still, you have to do your speed work. It will fill in the gaps that zone 2 work does a bad job of like lactate threshold, vo2max, and developing max end speed. You don't really get much faster just doing zone 1 and 2. Just ask the Maffetone faggots. They actually do great the moment they actually do speed work.

>>76797216 #>repost from previous threadIt’s not a meme in that the method works. It’s a meme in that people treat it extremely black/white. The idea is you have easy runs to build your aerobic base. And the easy runs make it so you need less recovery time and can run more miles to continue building the base. So zone 2 became a thing because it is hard for beginners to know what easy is and zone 2 is easy to understand and a catchy phrase. So where people go wrong is first they treat anything 1 BPM over zone 2 as too fast. First, your watch isn’t super accurate, more directionally accurate. Second, everyone’s zones are different and most people don’t do test to figure out what the actual zones are. Third, most beginners aren’t doing enough milesSo what advice would I give? An easy runs you should be able to have a conversation with the person next to you. You shouldn’t be gasping for breath. If you are in zone 3 you are probably fine. If you go up a hill and the heart rate spikes, maybe slow up a little bit don’t worry you’ll be going down the hill eventually. And you do want to mix in some tempo/hills/speed into your runs to build anaerobic base. About a 80/20 split of miles (again doesn’t have to be exact).Probably missing a few thing, probably didn’t describe it perfectly but I am a little high (post run gummies are the way to go)>pic todays roonProbably last tshirt run of the year.
>>76797616>If you are in zone 3 you are probably fineFor begineers I don't even recommend doing zone crap. Just work up their mileage and make sure they're not running to hard. It's only when they are able to do a 2hr long run I recommend zone 2 running.
>tapering for marathon>volume is down>bp and rhr are going up
My treadmill broke so now I gotta run outside homelessly. Should I buy a gps watch that can track heart rate and if so which one?

Should I be worried that this is my HR during a shitty, 7 min/km easy run? I am getting back to running after a long time so obviously I am starting almost from scratch and I never really got fast, my PB for 5K was 23 minutes. However I remember that when I was trying hard during those 5K's my HR was above 200 BPM towards the end of the run and I felt OK with that effort. So maybe my zones are quite high? And my HR down really quickly after the exercise. Living in a big city and stress can also be factors here. What I am worried is, is that I am putting too much stress on myself, even while trying to run as slowly as I can.
>>76798260no, this >>76798119 is

>>76798329>just looked it up>bought it with the hrm bundle for $68 in 2017>it's now $150 just for the watch aloneWhat a rip-off.
>>76797953I bought a Polar H9 for 20 euros. It automatically syncs with my gym's Technogym treadmills it's great, without having to touch a single button. It is black magic that it somehow knows to send your HR to the treadmill you're on and not the one next to it.
>>76798343nigga its just sending it everywhere lol>>76797953An HR strap can be an option if you are bringing your phone anyways. You can always pair it with a watch later.
can you recommend me some budget shoes for a 5k race? I have been trail running for the last 2 years and I want to inscribe in a 5k road event, but I don't have any road shoes. I won't use them for training, I just want something to run fast without breaking the bank.
I'm following the program from my watchIt said to run 4 km at a 7.30 pacewas very hard nglhowever the hr graph says that most of my run (55%) was in the anaerobic zone; that is literally impossible right?does the watch just not know what the zones are?

I don't know if you guys remember me, but I used to post a Goku sitting down telling that I was breaking my running PRs daily a few years ago. I'm a flat feet guy who started to run with minimalist shoes at that time and it truly changed the game. My 5km pace went from 1km per 12 min to around 1km per 8 min in a matter of months because of the shoes. The problem was that I got too greedy and overdone it to the point of injuring the metatarsals of both of my feet and had to stop running for a few months while limping like a retard. I've tried to come back, but I didn't had the will to start from the beginning again and went for other hobbies. I've tried to start it again a few months ago, but I was too fat and my knees were popping. I've lost a lot of weight and went to a doctor, but my knees are fucked and I'll have to do physical therapy for a few months. My main goal is getting back to how I was before, but I don't know if I'll make it because I'm already 26 and fully aware that it'll only get worse in the future.
Hamstring/butt hurt a bit, but I was able to do a full 5K at least. It was more of a soreness with occasional tingles of pain, but definitely noticeable. It's fucked up how high my HR got though, I lost so much conditioning. Not even a month ago, I had to PUSH to get it above 150, and now I nearly hit 170 BPM doing fucking 10 min/mi. Going to take another couple days off to let it keep healing.

I have achieved sub 30min 5k after bitching about it for months, right now im training to get to sub 25m and a sub hour 10k. I have went from 92kg fatass and now still a slightly fatfuck at 69kg. I am going to run a half marathon this weekend, a distance I never did and it does feel anxious about it. I only ever ran 15k for my long runs.I have trained with hydration belt; two 250ml bottles. I wonder if I should ditch them to run lighter but I hate the retards at aid and water station taking their sweet ass time to chug. But I also need some ready-to-sip water for my gels. How do you guys take gel without water?
>>76801369If you been practicing with a hydration belt, use a hydration belt. In the future, try a few runs without it.

Is lactate measurement devices good for amateur runners?I’ve read a lot of promising things regarding the «Norwegian singles» method, a deviation of the training philosophy Jacob Ingebritsen is using. It says you’re supposed to run 2-3 sub lactate threshold workouts a week and the rest really easy. Can you just wing it and do zone 3 intervals or should you follow it religiously with proper lactate measurements? It costs about as much as a pair of shoes, so I thought it would be worth a try. What do u guys think?
ran yesterday when it was dark and foggy while listening to post-punk tunes. it was epic imo.
>>76803302I think lactate thresholds are full of shit. For vo2max training, evidence suggests zone 5+ is best

>>76803302I've read the letsrun thread too. I thought it sounded promising until I figured out the people that got those amazing results run >7-8h/week .
>>76803935It basically is training in high intensity right until the point of crashing/injury. It gives you the maximum effect but there's a risk. Like doing all your sets to failure 3x/week

>>76804744Huh?Just run idiot, gels and whatever that is is just slop for unmotivated losers
>>76804931>stroke imminent
>>76804931>marathon in 2 weeks>all but 1% in zone 2>only on 35 miles a weekOn the plus side, you'll have that huge aerobic base that will get you to the finish line, but without speedwork to increase your lactic threshold, top end speed, and vo2max, you are probably not going to run an optimized race.
My black and busted toenail finally bent off so I snipped it away. Now there is no toenail for at least half a year to set me back.Is that even dangerous or a good thing? Of course I'll be running with a gel sleeve over it but might freak some people out if they see me bare-footed
Thinking about doing a half marathon at the start of January. Do you think that's enough time to build up the mileage? My fitness is fine but I only run about 15 miles per week. Maybe 20 on a big week. Completing the distance is not a problem it's the injuries I'm worried about if I ramp it up too soon.
>>76804744any carbs will dopre workout before hard runs only. don't be wasting that on easy days
Anyone play any AR games when they run? I've been playing Pikmin Bloom since it's launch and it's helped me a ton in keeping motivated and sticking to my schedule, or even at minimum going on a daily walk.
>>76797267Well lads, I officially did it. I just ordered by first pair of carbon plated shoes. Went with the NB SC elite 4 because I wanted something fairly stable since this will be my first time using a plate. Anyone else have experience with carbon plated shoes? How much difference did you see with them?
>>76805789You have plenty of time. I have a half marathon in February and Im doing roughly the same mileage, usually 20 - 25 miles a week right now. broken up into typically 4 runs, with the long run gradually getting longer. I was at 9 miles in Sept, 10 miles last month, and this month my weekly long runs will be 11 miles. And as you can guess for Dec. and Jan my long runs will ramp up to 12 and 13 miles. I feel great, no injuries. Just make sure you're doing the basics of wearing good shoes, warming up, and doing strength/mobility work to prevent injuries
>>76806885They need to have the combo of the carbon plate and the foam. I bought a cheap pair of Nike ones that were meant for training not racing. They had a plate but just regular foam and they were junk. Although this was years ago when they were just coming out. I assume the carbon shoes designed for training are much better now. Anyway this doesn't matter for you because the New Balance have the fancy foam>The most significant upgrade in the Elite series is undoubtedly the foam. After much anticipation, New Balance has finally incorporated Pebax foam into their flagship racer for a top-tier, high-rebound performance.
>>76806367I haven't but I'll check it out, do I need to do microtransaction shit?
>>76806959Not really. It's by the same company that did pokemon go, but they took out all the gameplay. The entire point is to just walk. As you walk you auto collect stuff so you don't have to be on your phone the entire time, you just turn the game on, let it run in the back ground and then go do your thing. Then just collect your stufd when done and turn it off.

>>76808283Donating blood is great health wise and just in general, and I don’t want to discourage you, but it will fuck you up a bit. The loss of blood isn’t good cardio wise. >>76804623if you want amazing distance running results you have to spend a ton of time training, no matter the training approach. there is no method that would have you run a 15min 5k with 3h hours of weekly training. but it could well be the most optimal method for maximizing long-term potential for the casual runner in the 3h - 7h weekly running category, when aiming at distances from 5k to half marathon. the goal is to maximize aerobic training load, while taking recovery rate and injury risks into account. so whatever the time you have for running, you spend it on aerobic development in the most efficient way, and over the long term this will generate the best results.

>>76804623The problem with all forms of calisthenics is that you are limited to what your body weight can exert to you. Even then, 7h a week is like a 2h session each 2nd day. New 5k pb lads. Did 26.02 in march, and have basically been exclusively on half marathon training until about 6 weeks ago. Just did a test and felt really good, and ended up doing a 24.33.
Been doing a lot of running lately and it feels good getting fit and improving my running times but I've been pushing myself hard each time because I'm trying to get as fast a time as possible each time which is probably not sustainable because I spend the last km in pain and wishing it would end.Do you guys take it relatively easy when you're just training and not going for a pb? >>76809741>no you cant do what you wantI was never speedmaxxxed so I'm sure there's still some juice to squeeze. It's kinda depressing seeing guys I would fly past them 4/5/6 years ago now going shoulder to shoulder against me, sure they're in their mid twenties and I'm almost a decade older but fucking hell.I've looked into plyos and box jumping but that shit seems to put a lot of stress on your tendons and I don't need to visit snapcity but these exercises seem much softer and forgiving.
>>76809786mate imagine an 80 year old saying tjey just never speedmaxxedits ridiculousbiology is biologyyour speed biologically ages faster than any other part of your bodyjust facts

>hmm>today I will consider entering a HM I've travelled away to before>clueless.jpg>I'm proimently featured in the promotional imagery on the website:D
Ive been joogging once a week at least for couple months now I'M STILL LIMITED BY MY FUCKING TIBS
>3 easy runs>3 subthreshold workouts>1 easy long runLet me guess, you need more?
>>76809600Nice bro. What was your HM training looking like?
>>76809841fuck me that's impressiveIf I can just jog 100m when I'm 80 I'd be delighted with that
>>76810050More? I need less lad. You trying to injure me.
First half in over a month. IT Band was good. Cold run though. Any recommendations for gloves. I got shit circulation in my fingers and they always go numb.
>>76810101Nice run. What’s your goal time? Sorry I don’t have suggestions for gloves though, I live in a warm climate so it’s not needed
>>76810101I just buy gloves designed for cross-country skiing
>>76810121Had some ITBand issues I am working back from right now, so goal is to just build back up distance and not have pain come back right now. Looking to sign up for a 50k late spring (no particular goal, would be first ultra/trail) then a fall marathon and get under 3hours.
>>76804252Really good numbers bro, you got this.
I only roon one time per week training to roon a marathon and im at 24 km right now, before this I always added one extra km to my roon, is it safe to add 2 km for my roons now???? I don't wanna fuck my shit up
>>76810293I guess your goal is just to finish. you don't have to run longer than 30km in a single session when training for marathon.
>>76810344How will I finish a marathon if I can only roon 30 km though???? that does not make any sense anon
>>76810412If you can run 30KM your body can run 50KM
Brootal
>>76810478Crazy to see how he’s essentially jumping into his next step pushing off his toes. Crazy long stride too. Is this the secret to being fast?
>>76810510Yeah the secret to being fast is long strides, high cadence and minimal ground contact time
>>76810510I struggle to keep that pace for 30s intervals and that fag does it for an entire hour.
>>76810478i am in awe of his cheekbones, holy shit he looks like a statue
>>76810293why are you doing this?
>>76810510it's just momentum at that pace. you would look the same.
How long and hard would I need to bike (on a static bike) to get any benefits from it on days I don't run?
>>76810700>How longAny. You can substitute out any run and you'll get the cardiovascular benefits. The benefits that do not transfer over is the specificity like muscles used and benefits from the impact. >hardI don't think I've ever seen actually good research on this. In theory, it should show some transfer like in the case of over all VO2max. But, does it truly? I don't know. I very rarely do any harder workouts except when I'm cycling outside and have to ascend steep hills since I haven't participated in any triathlons for awhile. I just use cycling as an active recovery session, esp after a hard workout or the day after my long run.
>>76810700I got a mega fitness boost when I used to cycle to work. It was just 20 minutes taking it easy. The consistency of doing that 40 min of easy cardio every day made such a big difference it was crazy. I do intervals on the bike/elliptical in the gym because it's less boring than just sitting there going steady.
>>76810061It was pretty basic just upping the distance. At first I did the hal higdon, but like most of his running plans I found it overly cautious in (relative) speed work, so I switched to a Nike run club one that had a bit more of that stuff. It meant it took longer, but it was probably good for me in the end, plus the Nike one was more fun
>>76810510broif you tried running his half marathon pace there it would feel like sprinting to youform is an illusionit doesnt matter for amateurspros have nice looking form because if you are running that fast that is what your body naturally has to dotheres no point trying to improve form. form doesnt make you a good runner. its other way round. good runners tend to have good looking form just from being fit
On the outer side of my big toe I started developing a blister. Its been a couple weeks but I've just been ignoring itJust completed my first 20 milerNow I have a big normal blister and a big blood blister directly below itwhat do?should I just ignore them and not try to drain them?
>>76797267>Be me>Been doing couch to 5k>feelsgood.jpg>Almost at the endWhat do I do after week 9? Just keep doing 30 minutes 3x a week? Or do I start adding days?
Fml.I had my car parked on the street and a drunk cunt crashed against it, when I went to talk to the guy things started to escalate and I couldn't stop him from fleeing the scene. I wish I picked weight lifting instead of becoming a cardio twig.
>been cyclist since 2016>beyond burned out on it>barely ridden at all this year>decide to get into running (on work trip so I haven't done anything yet)>hung up on distance>usual ride is 20-30 miles>see runners do like 3-6 maybe more miles a day>think to myself that isn't shit>how am I gonna get a good workout in if I'm only doing 3 miles, that's basically nothing (still thinking in the cycling mindset)>ask chatgpt about it>says I can get the same workout in a 8 mile run as I would in a 30 mile bike rideIs that true? Obviously, I won't be doing anything like that right off the bat but chatGPT says I can get just a good workout in a fraction of the time because running uses more muscles or some shit. If so that's gonna be amazing to be able to go out for an hour, get some good cardio in and i'm done vs spending the entire fucking morning/afternoon on the bike.
>>76811262>says I can get the same workout in a[n] 8 mile run as I would in a 30 mile bike ridechat gpt is retarded as per usual.
>>76810971are you sure you're in the right size shoe, or possibly in a worn out shoe? Also are you using running specific socks? Because I used to get blisters constantly when I was using every day socks but they completely stopped when I switched to running socks. They're not even expensive. You can get a bunch for cheap off Amazon
>>76811262Your heart and lungs don't know whether you're running or cycling. Go at the same perceived effort for the same duration and you'll get the same cardio benefit whether running or cycling (or any other form of steady-state exercise). Conversely, your legs will find out very quickly what the difference between a no-impact sport ((road) cycling) and an impact sport (running) is. If you try to match the volume you're accustomed to in cycling you will injure yourself in short order. Start at the bottom and build gradually.
>>76811308Yeah its weird I'm getting them even when wearing running socks. I used injinji toe socks and even some other proper running socks. I also used leukotape todayI'm also wearing NB 1080 v14 in wide size too
>>76810510all mid-long distance runners and cyclists use the same cadence (180 spm as seen in the webm) long strides are the only way to get fast
>>76811343>long strides are the only way to get fastexplain
At least I can still run a <30m 5K. Hamstring hurt a bit, again, but it was alright.Saw a spider out the window
speed = cadence * stride cadence is a constant (180 steps/minute)stride (measured in distance/step) is the only variable you control
>>76811426for >>76811373 (You)
>>76811426>>76811428oh you just meant longer strides. I thought you were trying to say something more insightful
>>76811426You can control your cadence tooYou shouldn't... you should stick to one number, but you can
Veteran's day 11 miler. Hit a wall right 8 miles and started feeling sorry for myself. 9 min/mi was the goal, secondary was 9:30. At least I had that. If the race was further, I was on track to PR my 1/2.
>>76810968I’ve done a lot of running, as I’m an ex dying for Israel fag, but I never really managed to become fast. I was always told my sprinting form looked really good, but medium distance runs I was like 7:30/min miles. I could do a 5k at that pace, but that was pretty much my best. Longer runs like 10 miles I was probably sitting at 9-10 minute pace if I wanted to survive. I was always more into lifting though. Lately I’m getting back into running for health reasons mostly
brehs I can't get over how many hot and cute girls I run past on my runsI run in the park that goes along the main river in my city, I swear I'd marry 90% of the girls I seesometimes I can't help but let out an audible damn where I see these girlsI NEED A ROON GF
>>76811571dying for israel??!!??wth does thst mean
>>76811595military veteran
>>76801369I finished 2:48. My legs hurts like crazy. When I started running in June its usually a cardio issue where im running out of breath, but now fuck all the muscle fibers are pulling as I run to the end but my heart is doing all fine. I can't even stand up and im contemplating to get a wheelchair for the week.I was in despair mode in around 15km I was thinking about quitting. And recovered around 18km and just pushed. I don't think I ever sign up for a marathon any time soon.
>>76811588maybe you should check your local run club
>>76811272depends how hard either is, i can blow my cycling legs by sprinting a halfmile at 100%, the benefits are about the same at the same heart rate i think but road cycling is more forgiving on the guts bc you're not jogging whatever's in your abdomen every step
>>76810682idk its on my bucketlist to run at least one marathon before I die
>>76811979I mean why are you doing it in such a bizarre (to put it nicely) way? Even if you just ran twice per week it would still be a clown training plan but a massive improvement.
>>76811979you could probably do it right away, especially if you don't mind walking / jogging during the last 10k or so.
>>76811262You can get a good run done in 20 minutes. Pick something to train for and follow a plan otherwise you'll end up doing retarded shit
>>76811052Bridge to 10k
>>76811684If I walked for that amount of time my legs would be hurting. No wonder you're legs are fucked. Get your times down on the shorter distances then go again. You have already made good progress. Running gains take time to accumulate just gotta keep chipping away.
>>76811312>Your heart and lungs don't know whether you're running or cyclingHow people continue to fail on realizing this is still astounding. They don't realize the "20 million miles of cycling equals 6 miles of running" is based upon calorie burn. It's why I train a lot based on time instead of distance. If someone wants to ficus in calories, eat more/less.
>>76812060Idk man this has always been my way of training, ever since I started barely being able to run 2.5km, I just add one km every week, it just werks bro, its not as if I care about my time all that much but I have noticed the longer I roooooon the faster I automatically get, I've achieved the sub 25 min 5k and 50 minute 10k this way, by just roooning at an easy pace for as long as I can (also im too lazy to do it more than one time a week + I get like a ton of those inflated flesh bags at the bottom of my feet i forgot what they are called in english if I do it twice a week instead of one)
>>76812095Your feet (and your fitness) would be better if you ran more often.
>>76812095you'll be able to finish a marathon with this training. it's retarded but you've gotten pretty far with it already and managed to not injure yourself, so I think it will get the job done. it probably takes several days for your body to recover from this single weekly long run now, and I don't think you really need to be running further than 25k. but it you were able to throw in shorter easy runs (30min - 1h duration) into your week you'd get significant benefits.
I think I must be doing something very wrong. My legs get way more sore/tired during easy runs than speed sessions. I also bought some new shoes recently and now my knees hurt all of a sudden.
Do you think eventually I can actually run 4 (or 5) times a week and not jog anymore if I do this about forever? I'm 35.Not sure why pace is shifted by a day. On Saturday I did intervals ig where I was aiming for 6min/km, 4x(800m+400m slower) with some more jogging before and after.
keep getting really hot legs at night on run days. keeps me awake
today I ran up a hill 7 times, for Jesus.
>>76810101noice run m8I think any of those neoprene gloves would probably be fine? I have some the north face ones (which also work with touchscreens) but I bet any random off brand would be similar. They aren't proper hot but they keep the cold air off the skin.
>>76810101the milwaukee rubber/vinyl coated palm and stretchy nylon rear ones from home depot cost a lot if you consider them disposable but if you're a unhygienic snotnosed bum like i a three pack lasts me a year and keep me warm and chuggingthey also have em unbranded and cheaper at the dollar store. motorcycling gloves also work if you're fashionista
Are you doing some threshold runs? You can't really get that aerobic performance increase from sprints and zone 2 cuck behavior.
>>76812220maybe not recovering from the hard days. if you did 3 easy runs in a row would they all feel like that?
