Once they built that base of size and strength they 'honed in' their physique doing silly bs. That's what bodybuilding is basically. 90% of it is the same as powerlifting. The only difference is they then do a bunch of stuff on top to make relatively superficial changes. A big powerlifter for instance and big bodybuilder are not that different. They're a lot closer to each other than a small bodybuilder and big bodybuilder are.
