Has anyone here gotten /fit/ with scoliosis? I have it pretty bad and I'm in skinnyfat territory. Apparently you can't fix this shit once you're an adult, but I'm wondering if it's possible to build a good physique at least and reduce back pain.My spine kinda looks like pic related.
>>
I have a pretty mild case of scoliosis with eight bulged discs and sciatica. Ever since I started working on my lower back I've had the everyday pain go down like 95% and reduced my nerve pain flare ups significantly. Lower back stretches also help out a ton too when I feel stiff and they're especially important when I'm working out the lower back intensely.

Form >>>> weight when it comes to training your lower back. The last thing you want is to ego lift and fuck up something down there.

I have a friend with really bad scoliosis. He roids, lifts and does BJJ/judo while working delivering heavy stuff on his back. He said that being physically active and having a developed back fixed his shit, but everything will come back if he goes sedentary.
>>
>>76865112
What lower back exercises and stretches do you do Anon?
>>
>>76865098
Once you got scoliosis you don't get /fit/.
You actually get fit, as in promote bodily health.
No one ever reversed scoliosis as in cured it, you can mildly reverse it and even stabilize for numerous decades for potentially until death, but it is a progressive disease.
Your life is constant maintenance of the disorder, you will stretch, strength train, and do everything else to ensure it does not progress.
Sadly most people don't even realize they have it until far too late, because if caught early in life you can stop it from ever existing.
It's not actually scoliosis until the spine condenses and hardens, at which point it is permanent.
nothing outside of extreme experimental surgery can change it.

t. mild scoliosis 36 years old, girlfriend also has scoliosis 25 years old
>>
My wife has it to some extent, it makes her walk like she's mentally retarded with her feet and legs bowing out and her postures shit so she gets a little beer belly which makes my dick hard. The scoliosis shit doesn't stop me from fucking her hard so idk that it matters bro, ask your bf/husband if it's been a problem I guess
>>

Shit, I've been totally ignoring it because I've had other, bigger health issues. You're making me think I gotta start hitting the gym soon.

Ignoring scoliosis is absolutely the worst thing you can do, it's a progressive disease.
So as you lose normality, there is a point of no return.

For reference everyone has a small degree of scoliosis that is considered non clinical. No spine was ever perfectly straight, we are literally missing an organ on one side of our body that causes the human body to slightly lean for reference.
So right off the bat you cannot be 100% straight, but you can be 99% straight and not actually have clinical scoliosis.
There is a degree point for which it becomes an actual disability and the bones are hardened.
I digress, as the disease progresses, you can partially reverse it.
However if it progresses to x point, reversal to what is YOUR normal is no longer possible.
The reversal becomes the new normal and once again you can stabilize for decades potentially at this new normal, but eventually it will progress and you will just forget to do what is necessary and one day it will no longer be completely reversible to that normal.
You will partially reverse it again and that point is your now permanent new normal.

If you are a fitness zealot, scoliosis is not a true disability, you can live a life perfectly normal with it.
I stretch daily and I have to be in touch with my body in a way most people can't imagine.
Girlfriend also is rather strict, but she is more lax than I am.

This is every day, basically forever.
You don't get to be depressed or unmotivated, you just accept this is the way things are.
Because it is, the alternative is you don't treat it and one day you have to get the metal rod surgery and want to kill yourself because 99% of people who get that surgery have premature arthritis because they are literally drilling metal bolts into your spine and this forces an immune response because your bones are not suppose to touch metal.

I got scoliosis and do heavy squats, deads and good mornings. Only issue was getting quadratus lumborum muscle inflamed or something, from ab training of all things.
>>
>>76865207
>ab training of all things.
Almost all people with scoliosis have either winged scapula or chest rotation.
As the disease progresses, the spine not only leans, but begins to spin as the one muscle group shortens.

Straighten your spine as much as you can, decompress your chest at the sternum, and rotate the body torso from the sternum, not the lower back.
>>
>>76865213
I just strengthened my core with deads/squats to failure and now do same ab exercises with 0 problem.

My hands (big, strong)+your back (thin, crooked)= ?

;)

First thing scoliosis patients do is stretching, and I mean proper full stretching none of that half assed shit. Just search up lumbar scoliosis stretching exercises or whichever part of your spine has the curve and take it seriously. Stretching is extremely important because currently one side of your back muscles is weaker and "shorter" than the other and by stretching you have to start to activate the other side and balance it out. Stretch before and after working out every time, and take it seriously. First do nothing but stretching.

Only after learning proper stretching you can think of actual training (same stretching should be done before that too). Best way to start is swimming, no pressure on joints and builds back muscle. Form is crucial here too, form is everything.
Only after stretching and swimming properly for a good while now you can think of things like lifting and actually getting your back in shape. Because you focused like an autist on form and posture in previous exercises now you will be even more focused and precise in your form while executing lifts, if you just jump into lifting it's easy for even greater imbalance to happen.
From then on you can basically do any sport or exercise you want and never ever forget about keeping your form and posture in check. As much as you keep it in check your scoliosis will stay in check too even in old age.
Godspeed my dear curved spine bro, you will make it.

I have scoliosis. I haven't had any back pain ever since I started spamming pull ups.
>>
>First thing scoliosis patients do is stretching
Because they're lazy worthless faggots, stretching does absolutely fucking NOTHING.
ZERO benefits.
Hit up the gym, retard.

>stretching does absolutely fucking NOTHING.
Obviosuly you won't grow any muscle with stretching, but stretching literally and factually lengthens your muscle fibers, which someone who has scoliosis desperately needs because one side of his back has shorter muscle fibers. It's definitely a must for someone with scolisis to become very aware of his form and posture at all times.

You must be baiting because even most people without scolios would fuck their shit up with this exercise, let alone a skinnyfat non lifter who has scoliosis
>>

Shut the fuck up DYEL scum, do not fucking speak to me if you got filtered by progressive overload.
Literally nobody told you to use a 90kg barbell on day 1, KILL YOURSELF RETARD.
You worthless DYEL, go buy a jug of milk and lift it up and down from the ground for 3x12 reps thrice a week if that's what is appropriate for you.
Don't fucking tell me it will ruin your back, when it literally heals it.
>>
how do you tell if you have scoliosis?
>>
>>76866055
>one shoulder higher than the other
>one scapula higher than the other
>rib flare on one side
>one hip higher than the other
If you notice any of these go get some x-rays done to confirm it.

How do you do this? What exercises/stretches do you do to treat your scoliosis?
I have
>flared rib (right side)
>winged scapula (right side)
>uneven hips

Just deadlift
>>
>>76865308
>>76865369
I'l take both the reduced inflammation
The increased mobility
And I might even take the form correction you get from the better symmetry.
>>
>>76865159
>>76865204
I'm the other cursed. What kind of stretching I should do? Or I should just go to the physiotherapist to get individual set?
>>
I have one, at 16 my doc said I was born with it and I will not have pain if I'm muscular. I hit the gym and particularly train my legs and glutes to help me free my back at work when lifting and it helps a lot ! Get big glutes
>>
>>76865098
Everyone has it
>>
>>76865098
I got scoliosis in the gym like 3 years ago cause nobody had the mind to tell me to deadlift from my legs and not my back
FML
>>
>>76866094
THE most important thing you can work on if you want to stop the progression is ONE ARMED DEAD HANGS. Do both hands and work up to 1 minute if you can, 2-3x daily
>>76867993
When I got mine, (end of June 2023ish) I watched a bunch of youtube channels and insta pages, (treatbackpain, makarovsomething) and there's stretches, sure, but gravity is a weapon and it's wise to use it
