I find the pad is a bad idea because you are reducing your stability. You're adding a certain squish to your overall form and lose tension in your upper back because of it.

I've owned and used multiple safety squat bars the bar rests on your back held in place by the camber offset and the shoulder pads and it places extreme strain on your back just like a barbell but if the barbell pad is a pussy pad then a safety squat bar is a gaping vagina pad it serves the exact same purpose only more forgiving than the former and it's not even close. safety squat bars were literally designed to reduce the pain and injury caused by barbell back squat
