Here's my progress since March 2025. Started out around 30-35% bodyfat, think i'm sitting around 20% now. First time lifter, been in a deficit the whole time. Anything in particular I should be working on? I feel like my chest is lacking the most, but not really sure what to realistically expect from 9 months progress starting out as very fat & sedentary. Probably just going to continue the cut until i'm at 15% body fat since i don't have much muscle mass to lose at this point. Would love some input as I don't have much experience lifting and don't really know what to expect.

Well I'm not a newbie and I am making (very small) strength gains. I think it's possible for me because I'm essentially doing multiple mini-cuts with maintenance periods in between. I stay on my 500 calorie deficit most of the time but eat at maintenance for a few days every couple weeks when I start to feel too depleted. It feels very intuitive and sustainable.

Bodyweight calisthenics for most of your upper body. Try weights for legs and accessory movements like db curls and lateral raises. Shoulder press and incline bench for upper chest and delts


Consider doing full body 2-3x a week and opting for cardio on your non lifting days. Incline treadmill and stepmill are the best imo.

Caffeine increases serotonin and dopamine so it acts as a mood booster. Also decreases feeling of hunger.

Additionally just eat before going to work aka not skipping breakfast. And eat while you are at work at say lunch time.

Personally I like to do it like that where I eat most of my calories in the first half of the day because i exercise in the evening and exercise makes you less sluggish and not feel hunger as much. I don't know what kind of job you have but for me it's an office job and sitting on my ass makes me lethargic, hungry, bored, etc. Eating helps alleviate that.

I work in a construction company office, I am seated for most of the week but occasionally I need to move around and drive places.

If I eat most of my calories in the morning or during work I tend to feel tired during the day cus I would spend all of that time in digestion mode. Factor number 1 is just genetics. My father and I kinda have the franco columbu phenotype. When I press, I personally use my chest way more than my front delts.

Which leads to factor number 2, which is to just try growing out the lower chest some more. I do a ton of dips and weighted dips. When your lower chest is big, it raises the ceiling for the upper chest since it can't really physically outgrow the lower chest. Perfect example being franco in picrel. The best you can do is match them 1:1. A lot of these new fitness influencers try to meme the incline bench spam to keep their audiences smaller.

Factor number 3 is to bounce the bar less when you bench and do more flies. I usually do the machine pec fly as a chest finisher after my presses and dips. You can also lean forward on the machine to hit the upper chest more.
A lot of guys hit a plateau from only pressing and can never get past it until they stop bouncing a bar off the chest benching with their triceps, and start focusing on a stretch biased pec isolation.

The final thing is just patience. Hope some of this stuff helps.

The harsh reality is that there are three outcomes on a spectrum.

1. You’ve got good genetics, so the positive feedback loop of doing something you’re already good at accelerates your progress.
2. You’re genetically unsuited to building muscle, so you make painfully slow progress and inevitably question your self-worth as a person (an impotence of the ego).
3. You abuse anabolic steroids, which allows you to re-roll your odds of being 1 or 2 again, but only once.

You seem like you’re making normal progress for such a young age. You have very little stress at this point in life, so you should be training like your life depends on it, because it does. It’s far better to build up an investment of physical wealth early than to start later in life.


Train full body or PPL in a periodised format, focus on your lats as it makes you look bigger the fastest. Abs must be trained not just for aesthetics but for your spinal health.

Get a good job to eat well, the physical and mental health gains to be had by eating high-quality unprocessed foods are unmatched. Expensive gourmet salads and certified organic meats with exotic fruits everyday got me feeling like a million bucks.

High doesn’t matter, simply date shorter people. 6’1 and 5’4 pussy feels about the same.
