crunches and planks are fine if they are hard enough for you, but if you can do 40-50+ crunches and can hold a plank for 3-4+ minutes it becomes a waste of time and you have to add weight or move to harder exercises. you can do crunches while holding a plate or do long lever planks if you like those exercises

I don’t really do a whole lot for abs but I train them just like any other muscle, load the abdominal machine up with as much weight as I can (currently 140lbs) and do 4 sets of 8-12 without jerking around.
No telling how well this will have worked for me until I cut down again, but I feel okay about it.

I believed this a little too hard when I was cutting down from being a semi-fat alcoholic.
I just said “fuck it, I’m already miserable let’s do this all they way” and kept cutting WAY longer than I should have, because I couldn’t see abs and I thought that meant there still must have been fat obscuring them (cuz made in kitchen).
Eventually resorted to a crash diet that I’d qualify as some kind of eating disorder, ended up 150lbs at 6’3” (down from 225) with my stomach contouring in like a woman’s, full fucking Auschwitz mode.
Turns out I had legit no abs, no core to speak of and had starved myself down to a hungry skeleton because I’m an idiot.
You need to do like, two sets of crunches per week and I’d been sedentary for more than a decade doing nothing but binge drinking and consuming media, hardly moving.
Anyhow, by and large- yes, they are made in the kitchen by getting to sub 10% body fat.
However, in cases of extreme retardation like my own, it will require some preparatory/actual work.
Just words of warning to any anons starting their fitness journey (because we all dream of abs, y’know?).

this, if you can't do a minute plank in proper form without shaking and vibrating like a little faggot then you should do them more. Also do a stomach vacuum while in the plank position to work transverse abdominus more. This is what gives you sexy abs, whereas doing a ton of ab hypertrophy without any transverse work gives you a bloated blocky look. You have to do stomach vacuums if you want aesthetics
