More often I do cyclical ketogenic diets which is just eating normal carb loads and calories on days I train to manipulate glycogen. The massive 1500+ kcal daily deficit normally deals with rest. This doesn't work the same way in fat or sedentary people because they don't exercise. It doesn't even work in sedentary lifters because they don't also do exercise specifically meant to deplete glycogen.
