I lost 50lbs this year, but I didn't really diet or anything I just stopped drinking. Tbh even when I was going to the gym 5 days a week I've always been a retard regarding nutrition. I really don't know what I'm doing here, since I'm going back to the gym all I really eat these days are about apples and one really big 200 gram protein shake. I'm completely fine living like this but I'm just concerned that there might be some health problems given my limited diet. Should I just take supplements? Should I add something to the shake?

My middle school health textbook taught us that you should always be eating 2000 calories of like mostly bread

Beef liver 1-2x a week, or chicken liver, egg yolks, and some fish throughout the week.

Liver is the most nutritionally dense food, it (beef specifically) is actually excessively nutritious.

Digestion is very important, meat is far easier to digest than plants, which have protective mechanisms because they cannot run or fight from their predators.

Name something that has more nutrients than liver that you can find in the wild.

You don't have to. Just name a FOOD that has more nutrients than liver.

You can only effectively process about 50g of protein in a sitting. Focus on lean protein, eggs, and fish with beef a few times a week. If you eat carbs, single ingredient or low ingredient items are better, and in-season fruit and veg are best.
Figure out how many calories you can eat in a day without gaining weight (Average over 1-2 weeks) and stay there. Make sure you get 0.8-1.2g/lb of protein a day and you're all set.

most of this is good advice, but
> You can only effectively process about 50g of protein in a sitting
is a myth. all the protein you eat will be absorbed eventually, it just takes longer when eating more than 40-50g

Recommend some books I should read to understand nutrition. I decided not to trust the online gurus anymore and not hope for the perfect diet plan either. Instead I want to learn about nutrition and gradually improve my diet.

you should start by learning what each of the macronutrients do in your body, what is protein used for what are carbohydrates used for etc. then you will have a better understanding of what ratios of each you should consume depending on your TDEE and physical training/ goals
