Can I get good workouts in with only dumbbells?I don't have space for a barbell
no barbells and machine possess some unique hidden qualities which make it more than just weight you can use to supply adequate mechanical tension to your muscles and unfortunately dumbbells lack said secret ingredient
>>76946260I feel you're mocking me
>>76946292he is, dumbbells are great. You need a proper adjustable bench too, but a rack of dumbbells and a bench is absolutely sufficient. It's just less convenient really. I'd maybe get those adjustable dumbbells.
>>76946255Do you have a dip or pullup bar?
>>76946255I only have space for a few goats, a wheelbarrow, a flat tractor tire, an my mother in law. I put my mother in law into the wheel barrow and leave her in the village but that is downhill and she comes back withing the day. Can i just lift the goats and try to get rid of MIL for good workouts?
>>76946255Train to failure and you need a bench
get a rope, attach it to the dumbbell and hang it over something then you can do pulldowns
>>76946255No. Can't adequately train legs
>>76946255dumbbells + backpack you can fill with weights can get you pretty far. the weighted backpack is very versatile. you can curl it, do skull crushers, pullovers, weighted pushups/dips/pullups, use it for additional weight for squats, do hamstring curls, etc
>>76946403>Dumbell split squat>Dumbell romanian deadlift
>>76946403>implying I'm gonna train legs
>>7694640350kg dumbbell pistol squat is like (body weight * 0.5) + 100kg normal squat.
>>76946570>(body weight * 0.5)?
>>76946403nobody cares about your 40 inch quads and 800lb squat lardass
>>76946602Yeah it should've been BW* + 100kg.*technically you're moving your leg only partially but it's a good approximation
>>76946610I'm gonna start adding my forearm weight to my bench press.
I just wanted to create a thread about this. What can I do if I don't have a bench? So far the only exercise that I can do well are the overhead tricep extensions.
I've been home gyming with only dumbbells for a few months. I use an adjustable pair that goes up to 85lbs and it mostly works for my needs. You'll need a pull up/dip bar and an adjustable bench. I do 1 leg rdl for deadlifts and for everything else the weight is enough for my needs. I do plan on adding a dedicated trap bar for deadlifts and squats down the line and probably sometime next year I will need a heavier set but it does the job for now.
>>76946255you can use piss jugs if you wantweight is weight
>>76946255progressive overload is king, so as long as you can overload with your dumbbells and add a little weight or add reps as time goes by (doesnt have to go up every week, but you should push to see if you have extra reps in the tank and once you hit around 12-15 reps regularly on an exercise move the weight up). you might run into trouble eventually with some muscle groups if your dumbbells arent heavy enough. repping it 30 times if you have no choice is still good exercise but not as good for building mass like the lower rep ranges
