I never do any warm-ups beyond a set with the empty bar. Am I killing my gains by not properly warming up?

Just edge to your imagination and do jumping jacks

yes. Muscles wont grow without proper warm up first.

Idiot.

For bench squat and deadlift 1pl8 is perfect for a warmup I've found, just an easy set of 10 to get blood pumping and get muscles fired up. The empty bar is fine for overhead press

I work bluecollar and lift after work. Is a day on the job not enough of a warmup?

For the big lifts I just add plates until I’m “in range”. For squats I start with no bar, do 20 paused body weight squats, then add a plate and do 5-10 reps until I’m at 3-4 plates and my workin set. Basically the same with bench. Don’t overthink it, just get warm and prime your nervous system for whatever load you’re doing

Yeah you should do a few warmup sets with light weight. 10 reps of bar, 10 reps of 1pl8, 10 reps of 1.5 pl8, 10 reps of 2pl8. Then you should be warm to start actually lifting.

If you're an electrician, no.

how much fucking time do you take at the gym lol
if your working set is at 3 to 4 plates, bodyweight squats do jack shit. just do like 5 reps with the bar, then 5 with 1,5-2 plates and then your actual set
>>
Start with the empty bar and add weight based on a percentage of your working weight.

If you were to bench 2pl8, it'd be something like
1x10 @ 20kg
1x5 @ 55kg
1x3-5 @ 75kg
1x1-3 @ 85kg
5000x5000 @ 100kg of whatever slop programme you do

I think this works because if you have a day where you feel like shit, you can take your warmups all the way up to a 95% single of your working weight as a feeler. You can drop the lower % warmup sets too, if you're already pumped. I always start with the bar though, I got indoctrinated via SS and SL.

I'm not an electrician so I guess I'm good?

If you are a sedentary person you could probably would had lazy glute syndrome, so doing some warm-ups to correctly activate the glute is a good idea. Those warm ups are kinda faggy but if you are squatting better be safe than sorry.
