Even he conceded legs need volume (though he said you should do like 100 reps in 1 set to deal with this, that barely hyperbole).

That's what I do, not the 100 reps part, and I noticed that I'm able to recover much faster, doing a single heavy top set for some exercises. I still squat 1x5 then 3x10 etc but I reduced the number of sets for other accessory exercises greatly.

if your legs aren't jelly and you feel the need to do 100 reps, you're not going heavy enough. Facts, pure and simple, you're not going to failure, and you're not going beyond failure.
