Were gyms better in the early 2010s? I think lifting in general may have been better

What does Mark Wood have to do with this?

Dunno, but in the early 2000s the cheap ones were full of criminals and wannabe tough guys and if you paid 10-20 more a month you could have a really high quality gym mostly for yourself unless some serious lifters / roiders occupied the free weight section

It was better because it was less mainstream. Gyms weren’t as crowded. Not as many teenagers were into lifting seriously, thus fewer retarded things happening in the gym. Cardio was much more popular than anything to do with strength, so weight rooms were more limited at a lot of places. You had a pretty even chance of being the sole bodybuilder at your gym. OTOH, way more boomer gym creeps like picrel. And early 2010s was like the tailend of an even better gym era where lifting seriously was a genuine subculture thought of as weird.

On 2010 i played a year of highschool football. We had some weightlifting coaches and they had us doind 3x20 brosplits.
One if em was a guy called pastor kent and he looked like he was on steroids.
>>
You looking to lift your ass on and off a cock or something?
What a stupid post.

gyms were basically the same, just with less neurotic zoomers with no social skills in them and the same goes for online discussions like here.

The main thing that has changed is there was a huge influx of angsty and resentful teens (who are now young adults) since then and the discussions have shifted away from broscience talks, good humour and general encouragement and good shitposting, to a sea of insecurity, hate against everyone and everything, "blackpills" meaning people just stewing in their hatred and fear of the world and generally catty, insecure behaviour, worse than a flock of teenage girls.
And then ofc all these youngfags are also trying to tear eachother down constantly, so they can feel better about something for a few seconds, until their angst catches up with them again and it's just a pile of misery to be around.

I check in every few days or weeks here and the state of it all is sad

I think you're right in part but idk if we can take the current state of /fit/ as an accurate source, the site's nearly dead and I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a bias with just the more angsty/"blackpiller" people staying while others leave.

i don't think gyms were any better, no. i don't really think there has been a meaningful change in gyms in the past 10-15 years at all. if anything, i think it's easier to find more specialized gyms these days, they're a lot more abundant in larger cities (at least in the US). i do reckon that big-box gyms are more popular today than they were back then, and the average age of gym-goers has probably decreased, but that's about it

true, but I have seen this basically anywhere you look online.

IRL ofc this is way less of a thing, though still noticeable

Could've been if he had you doing 3x20
>>
>>76954002
It wasn't that different, but the freeweights area was less crowded and people only recorded themselves for form checks

In general I think the culture was better then, everyone was a lot more honest

everyone was fully open about
>what their current split is
>how long they've been lifting
>what they're taking
>what they're eating
>height and weight
>their numbers on ohp, bench, squat and deadlift
People were genuinely just bros, down to talk heart to heart about lifting and everything else that goes into it. you could ask anyone at the gym for tips and they'd give you legit advice about what they did, none of this shit with trying to gatekeep fitness and gainz

now you'll get people who you know for a fact have been at the gym for 5 years because you've literally seen them there, yet they'll say they've only been doing it a year. youll get some twig claiming to be 200lbs. All the fake natties, all the 150lbs twinks claiming they do le epic 8000 calories a day. and people aren't even honest about the basic shit, like what their max bench and squat are

like don't get me wrong there have always been liars, but it feels way out of control now. everyone is talking out their ass in the fitness space these days

I probably grew more muscle that year than you have in your entire lifting "career". No 4chan poster who had been here for a long time looks good. Wonder why.
