>ITT: Exercises not worth doing
>>76958744Why anyone does this sitting instead of standing is beyond me
>>76958747why would you do that exercise anyway?
are you saying OHP in general or specifically seated barbell OHP on a flat bench?
>>76958777I LOVE YOU JESUS
>>76958768kek
>>76958861He truly is the King of Kingsalso any kind of OHP is better than no OHP
>>76958747Simple, my home gym is in my basement and I'm too tall to avoid smashing plates into the floor above.
free weights in general are stupid especially barbell and dumbbell. calisthenics + bands + machines is the masterrace.
>>76958777I think he means doing it on one of the free benches at the gym, going off that pic he uploaded. Which is retarded, if you're not doing it at a rack you're leaving gains on the table. Limited in what you can lift because you can only clean so much weight up, and cleaning the weight up in general is unnecessary fatigue when you could just be grabbing it off the rackfor me the lift not worth doing is chest press. no real reason to do it, bench press is superior in every way and will actually grow your tiddies, including incline bench press. The only people I ever see using chest press are skinny novices with no chest development. Oh and if you wanna safely go to failure then theres dumbbell bench. pointless exercise really
>>76958768
>>76958744Yes you should be doing it standingThere's no way you can load it in a meaningful way in the sitting variation especially on a bench not a rack
>>76958744Would the spine compression be worse like this? Or worse while standing? Because I don't have any proof or even any real logic to my belief, but I feel like that would be way worse for your spine than simply doing it standing like everyone else.
anyone have any idea how dumbell OHP weight translates to barbell OHP weight? don't have a rack yet, starting to max out what I can hoist up into position with DBs
>>76958999I did seated ohp on a bench with a trap bar for the benefit of a more vertical directly overhead press angle and it had angles/neutral handles. The trap bar was rackable so I could press it from the safety catches set to the exact height of my normal rack position. The safety catches were nylon cloth straps so I could drop the bar down without slamming or bouncing around. It was really great.

I feel like standing OHP really helped me figure out how to properly brace and have good posture. When I first started, I would hyperextend my back and flop around trying to balance the weight. Now when I do my OHP, I feel rigid and balanced throughout the whole movement
>>76959010dumbbells in my experience are like 80% of my OHP / 2so if I'm OHP on a barbell 100lbs I do 40 lb barbells
>>7695905040 pound dumbbells* lol god damn I confused myself
>>76959050>>76959053thanks, anonif i havent worn out my shoulders doing dips or press, i can hoist up 60lb DBs for about 6 or 7 rep OHP setsstruggled to get 50s up at the end of my workout, thoughdefinitely going to take it slow when i do transition to barbell, but still good to have a ball parkappreciate it
>>76958747My ceiling is too low.
>>76958879>>76959082This is legit and a smart workaround. I've seen people do it at a commercial gym with a ceiling about 30 feet from the ground though which just baffles me.
>>76959005Lifting a moderately heavy object overhead 10-20 times once or twice a week won't do shit to your spine. Quit being a glassback.
>>76959096These kind of retorts are stupid. Nobody anywhere is telling anyone to do midweight ohp. The only situation these lifts standout is in strength rep range. At lighter weights they do not beat other exercises for anything.
>>76958867You mean King of the jews?
>>76959102Your OHP 1RM still qualifies as a moderate weight in terms of effects on the spine. Again, quit being a glassback.
>>76959110>glass backfunny way of saying you're going to snap your shit up by being a pompous ass. you do not defy physics. you are a retard.
>>76959114>aaaaiiiieeeee my spine will explode if i put any weight on it aaaaahhhhhhh help me niggerman
>>76959116>1rm>any weightt. bucktooth drooling retard
>>76959105of all thingsnothing in Creation was made without Him>>76959114your arms and shoulders are taking the weight off your backi dont understand how spine compression is even a concern with OHP unless you are just trying to unrack a crazy weight you have no business even attemptingand in that case just falling back and killing yourself is a bigger concern than spinal compression
>>76959129the thoracic spine is highly prone to spinal disc disorders at ohp 1-5rm. the discs in the thoracic spine are relatively small and weak and prone to herniation at heavy weights
>>76959137source: anon's ass
>>76959137got anything to back that up?im not a fan of 1rpm on any lift, maybe because im old and new to liftingprefer to make my gains by increasing weight in the 8 rep areabut if you can actually OHP a weight, even just once, how is your mid back going to have an issue?genuinely curious
>>76959140source:common knowledge>>76959144think for a second before you post
>>76959145im thinking and asking questions, anoni think maybe the other anon was right with his>glass backaccusations if you think you're going to hurt yourself doing an OHP at a weight which you can comfortable lift for 5 repseveryone is different, though, and you should of course listen to your body (in this case, your glass back)
>>769591525rm isn't a comfortable rep range by nature
>>76959145>source:common knowledgeMeaning you don't have anything to back up your argument other than gut feelings and glassback retardation. Fuck outta here, not only do you have no idea what you're doing but you're acting like you're an authority and trying to give other people advice. >>76959152Ignore that retard, he's never going to develop out of his fearmongering ways because he believes his body can't adapt to stress. Your body is only fragile if you don't allow it to adapt by exposing it to stressors, and you can't do that if you never fucking lift because you think your spine will explode based on studies performed on untrained people.
>>76959157now you've really lost me5 rep area is considered a pretty solid strength gain targetif you're really pushing complete failure at 5 reps sure maybe back off a bit, but it definitely isn't a scary, injury risk type situation>>76959206i hear yaim a bitch ass too when it comes to back stuffi definitely try to keep deadlifts and back extensions and good mornings and that kind of thing in a safe/cowardly 5-10 rep range type level1 rep max is for cooler guys than mebut i just don't understand anon's wariness of OHP with regards to mid back compression
>>76958967Twink bitch
>>76958879>>76959082>HOME GYM’S ARE THE BEST!>w-whats that?>no, I can’t do any overhead exercises standing>I have to do them seated because I have 6ft ceilings. Kek
>>76959462I'll knock your teeth out for fun cupcake. Strength training is for gaping asshole queers like you
>>76959356Why are you trying to make "strength gains"? Are you too fucking weak to perform everyday tasks? The only thing you're going to gain is an injury. If you're already able bodied then strength training is pure autism
