I wish I had started doing martial arts since I was a child, but there is always the present. I took a Judo class and it was a lot of funThe same school does Judo + MMA so I will be taking classes for both. What do you think? The goal is just having fun and learning self-defense.
>>76962789I did judo for years, and 99.999% of judo is taught for competition. You cannot progress without competing. Most throws and modalities are done with the use of a gi. No gi Brazilian jiu jitsu and wrestling will be far better grappling foundations for fighting than judo. I eventually started winning judo competitions on the national level using bjj, with my main focus being taking the fight to the ground by waza-ari or even just down without points. From there I'd submit them every time.I also took boxing, but at a boxing gym, which won't translate as well into mma as mma style boxing or muay Thai probably would.
My dad wouldnt let me. Maybe he thought i would get myself beat up. Would have been helpful in life and have given me confidence
