As the baseline yes, if you spread it throughout the day it will keep your body and all your muscles including the heart healthy and moving and never in the same position or underused for too long, and increase your energy expenditure meaning you can lose weight or need to eat more to gain weight and it will preoccupy you from getting bored and wanting to eat. It's low impact, it's good for the mind (but don't just do it on a treadmill all the time you need the scenery.)

Compared to actual running where it can tire you out then you stop moving and losing as many calories from NEAT (non exercise movement) and start craving things.

Everyone has what's called a lactate threshold. Above this level of exertion, lactose builds up faster than the body can clear it. You burn glucose exclusively at this point, not fat-- most of your stored energy is fat. You can increase your lactate tolerance by exerting yourself above this threshold, but inevitably you will stop being able to move at a certain point. This is what sprinters train. It's bad for burning fat long term, good for going really fast.
Below this threshold, your body clears your lactate so it's not a limiter. Below it enough and your body uses fat, not glucose, for energy. You can increase your ability to metabolize fat (you literally build more mitochondria), which lets you move faster at this level.
Walking will almost always be at this level. Running can be, but most people, especially untrained runners, cannot run without passing this threshold.
So basically, walking isn't special per se, but it's better than running for most people. Get a heart rate monitor, learn what HR you can run or walk as fast as possible while being able to speak in full sentences, and crank out as much of that as possible for sustainable fat loss. This level of aerobic exertion also is less likely to injure you (in fact you can use it as recovery from hard days) and it feels good.

You don't burn glucose exclusively above lactate. It's progressive switch between fat and glucose and you're not burning just carbs above LT1 or LT2. LT training is way more of a distance runner thing because you might not even accrue enough lactate to slow you down in 100m.

There is nothing magic about fat burning either. It's a meme by retarded people who don't think CICO isn't a thing. Lowering your store glucose levels has long term the same effects and burning fat directly. Something needs to refill your glucose, so your next meal is "free", or you never restore the levels and enter ketosis.
