Is fasting good for the bed bound elderly? My grandmother is in the emergency room for heart trouble. She's never fasted. She doesn't want to eat. A few months ago before this was a problem I listened to this audio book which said that it hurts the sick to force them to eat when they don't want to eat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAw6ri_vXIgI'm worried about her life. Does anyone here know if it might be better to just let her not eat? This isn't her. She's older and looks a lot fucking worse.
Heres a resource https://fasting.center/fasting-benefitsIt can and will help your heart. (Arterial blockage, blood pressure, etc) but it can and will strain the heart as well. (Anything stressful will.) so it’s a double edged sword. I will say I just finished a 3 day fast, I have nervous system problems and heart problems as a result like POTS and my symptoms like nervous pain and heart palpitations are gone for the time being.
>>77002127Also she's on a bunch of medical IV's.IIRC fasting is sort of based on the idea of the body purging toxins and externalities but if her body has medicine injected into her I don't know if that would undercut the benefits of letting her not eat.
Fasting is good no matter the age
>>77002127Who's going to tell anon?
>>77002164Tell me what?
>>77002127Grandma's vaxx status?
>>77002127If she's elderly and bed bound then likely not, especially if her appetite is gone. She's probably already too far gone at that point.
>>77002284Vaxxed and totally cnn msnbc brained. Apparently one of our priests said "if you don't vote for trump your not catholic" and she was so upset she stopped going to church. Not, ofcourse that presidential politics matters but that's where her head is at. All 3 of my living grandparents are vaxxed. Her husband died about 20 years ago.
>>77002127It will cause bed sores which will best case heal in a year and be so painful she will be on morphine for months, but most likely put her a few feet under ground. Fasting will also cause her bowel movements to slow/stop, which will make her nauseous and fuck with her appetite even more. I presume she's on some meds for her heart? Not gonna go deep into it but just another factor that requires her to eat more. There's a reason we forcefeed people who are bed bound retards. Try giving her nutritional supplements, there are some 200ml drinks that have 600-700 calories, I used to bulk with them, great stuff.
>>77002127she's dying. I had zero appetite the days leading to my sepsis hospitalization.
>>77002334>Try giving her nutritional supplements, there are some 200ml drinks that have 600-700 caloriesThe hospital is trying to get her drinking Ensure.Does that count?
>>77002127Probably not at this point. It might result in her losing some of what little strength she has left. Which, reminder of why strength training is so important. >>77002316sheesh. my parents are like that too. I was hoping it would be consolation for me when they're in that situation, but it sounds like it won't.
>>77002622>my parents are like that too. I was hoping it would be consolation for me when they're in that situation,Spend time with your parents. Try to call each of them on the phone atleast one a day. Even if their interests are gayshit like HGTV or whatever
old people should hang on to every ounce of mass they have
no, you fucking idiot. you should be putting protein shakes in her feeding tube>>77002937this
>>77002127Don't forcefeed anyone unless they were born with some kind of ghrelin disorder or something, it's silly. Ngl tho, elderly people not having an appetite is usually a sign that their body has given up or is ready to go soon.If you want you grandmother to get well then you should fast and pray to God and he might fulfill your request if you're a devoted follower of Christ.
>>77002937This. Add whey and leucine to her IV.
>>77003478I pray to God frequently, though I've had doubts about Christianity, I suspect God has helped me through some tough moments lately.I hope if God is Christ, he wouldn't hold this against me.
>>77002621Yes that's not too bad. Just make sure she gets something in herself even if it's hard. Also some insider tip, once older patients stop eating altogether doctors will usually take them off their meds and put them on palliative care which is basically a death sentence in medical terms. If she got the strength for it just not appetite, make sure she gets those calories in. Gl anon
>>77005147I'm sorry for Scott Adams death, but these past few years I'm always grateful for how many people my grandmother continues to outlive even in her miserable weakened state.
>>77002127Fasting is a meme
>>77003480>This. Add whey and leucine to her IV.Is this a joke? I'm imagining milky whey powder but maybe whey comes in different forms.
>>77007116Not sure about whey but amino acids, definitely.
>>77004202If you suspect God has helped you lately then you should go to him, know him, and thank him. Don't delay an invitation from God. Rea/listen to the bible.
>>77007281>Rea/listen to the bible.I have read the Bible. Reading the Bible when I was 14 led me to stop believing it. Specifically the story of God making the pharoah obdurate (obstinate) so that he can justify inflicting the 7 plagues on the nation and its innocent children. As a teen I never made much progress past the first two, Genesis and Exodus. Recently I've been read through Lev, Num, Deut, and Judges.I found Deutetonomy a comfy soothing read for some reason compared to Lev and Numbers, even though Lev and Deut are both rule books, I just found Deut very mellow. Judges is brutal though. Whole societies and the children being killed by the good guys. It just doesn't make sense to me, and I'm no bleeding heart.I believe their may be a God, but I don't know if its the God of Abrahamic religions.I'm not trying to be a smug prick. Its heart warming to talk to genuine people.
>>77003478>If you want you grandmother to get well then you should fast and pray to God and he might fulfill your request if you're a devoted follower of Christ.I should add that I haven't eaten since I read this post. I took that idea seriously.
>>77007116Obviously joking about fucking with the iv, but if it was my grandma I'd get her a cheescake flavored protein shake or whatever she likes. Leucine alone stops muscle wasting during a caloric deficit almost as good as whey (in rats).
>>77007601>cheescake flavored protein shakeInteresting. I hadn't heard of that. I wanna slurp one so bad right now.
>>77007587>I have read the Bible. Reading the Bible when I was 14 led me to stop believing it. Specifically the story of God making the pharoah obdurate (obstinate) so that he can justify inflicting the 7 plagues on the nation and its innocent children. The pharaoh hardened his own heart along with God, and God did so to punish them not just for enslaving his people but for also worshiping false deities to prove that he is the one true God. That's why the plagues are very specific, for example blotting out the sun to show he controls the sun not "Ra.">Judges is brutal though. Whole societies and the children being killed by the good guys. It just doesn't make sense to me, and I'm no bleeding heart. It doesn't make sense to you because your knowledge is finite and limited, not infinite like God's. Part of faith is trusting in God's judgement and having faith that he will make everything whole; that he will take revenge for his people and bless the meek instead of relying on your own judgement. Also, it's very easy to take the bible out of context and you have to constantly be aware of that while reading it. It seems ridiculous now how people were offended by Jesus or how Israel kept disobeying God but people must realize that Jesus acted very unorthodox to the customs of his time (like not washing his hands before eating). The world back then was a fallen world, a lot of things back then don't make sense now because the world has become more forgiving and merciful thanks to Christ. A lot of societies back then were barbaric, it's not like there were homeless shelters, widely available healthcare, and foster homes for orphaned children.>I believe their may be a God, but I don't know if its the God of Abrahamic religions. The Abrahamic relgions are the only ones with any credence. Hinduism, Buddhism, and Paganism are all free-for-alls with no authority, doctrines, or creed.>I'm not trying to be a smug prick. Its heart warming to talk to genuine people.Likewise
>>77007587My other reply was too long but I just wanted to add that you should probably start with the New Testament specifically the Gospels. Jesus Christ really is the cornerstone of the religion and clarifies things with his parables and actions.
