My wife had 4 kids (3 vag 1 c-section) and her body is better now than before kids. After the 4th she started getting strong in the basics. So, despite your request to not just say get strong in the squat, yes, get strong in the squat. Also, bench, overhead press (standing overhead press is mandatory for body shaping) and deadlift. if she can do them, chinups/pullus. If not, progressive the latpull with a variety of handle grips until you find one she is strongest in. Getting strong in the basics do the best overall body building/strngthening/shaping you can do. Its especially critical to link the upper body to the lower body if youre worried about rib cage, back, pelvic floor, guts, etc.

To clarify, I meant that I unfortunately don't expect a doctor to tell her to just get strong, while I'm planning on telling her she NEEDS to get strong if she wants this to go smoothly. Her main friend who has had a baby was full on "anything more than a light walk is a risk to the child", so I'm prepping my case now.I probably should get a woman's barbell so she can do OHP and more upper body. I was thinking squats and RDLs would help to strengthen and restore pelvic floor/guts/lower body, but that makes perfect sense that upper body strength would help glue the ribs and midsection back together.

Biggest priority should be maintaining health during pregnancy. My wife ate primarily raw milk, grass fed beef, and eggs during pregnancy and her bloodwork was immaculate. She also walked and did some stretching daily. For the birth itself, I delivered alone at home so those communists couldn't make up a reason for a c section or poison the child. Post partum just rest and start walking as soon as it is comfortable. At around 6 weeks we introduced banded good mornings and shortly added kettlebell swings. Due to breastfeeding hormones squats and presses hurt her joints, but she still swings and walks daily. You don't have to complicate things, the body is meant to do this.
