What level of fitness is required to reach a peak like Long's Peak? How would you prepare?
>>
you're better off asking /out/ or consulting a mountaineering community site like https://www.14ers.com/peaks/10015/longs-peak

i've never done longs but i've done other class 3 (scramble) summits before with similar elevation gain. i'd say if you're in half-decent physical shape (i.e. not fat, can do prolonged cardio) you'll be fine, but if you've never summited mountains before, i'd start smaller just to get a feel for it. scramble aside, 5000 feet of gain is a lot for your first all-day hike, and even as someone who hikes a lot, i still feel it anytime i do more than 3k feet gain in a single hike, no matter how steadily that elevation comes.

its mostly only difficult if you are unprepared go in carrying plenty of food and water and ideally not in mid winter and you should be fine. I see too many dipshits that go and bring like one bottle of water and one granola bar. Start early give your self plenty of time plenty of food and water you want to be overprepared until you dial in how much of everything you need dont be the retard of the group

Thanks for the link.

I have reached a few peaks, nothing too crazy. Nothing technical. I believe pic in op is a photo i took from bottom of the scramble at Mt. Adubon of Long's Peak.

Only 14ers i have dont are bierstadt and grays. I went up the harder side of grays and for some stupid reason had steel toes on.

These days i dont hike as i am currently a flat lander. I run for about a mile and a half outside after my hypertrophy lift so im not as used to prolonged cardio but im trying to push myself daily to run further. Sometimes i think i should cut lifting from 6 days to 4 and have more cardio focused days.

I have heard it can be more about being prepared and pathfinding? I think last guy who died got lost around the keyhole and was caught in a storm. I always bring water and start early in the am and bring a survival blanket. I was going to go by myself.

you dont need a fucking survival blanket dude. im just saying to bring a bunch of food to keep spirits high and water especially at altitude you need like a liter per 3 miles so youd need like 5 liters round trip and probably like 2000 calories of shit its gonna be a long grind and dont pay attention to the nutcracks that are way fucking faster than you just focus on yourself assume it will be about 10 hours for the keyhole route try to finish most of your food and water before the final ascent save a little snack and like a liter of water for the way down

I guess i let people blow smoke up my ass about how much harder it is. Used to live nearby and fags base their personality around doing it every other weekend.
>bro youre not ready for this one i am cuz i ride my bike 50 miles a day.

I had planned a trip but someone convinced my buddy he wasnt ready and i got it in my head that maybe i was not prepared after all and that's when i did Bierstadt, which was very pleasant. Had a nice camping spot near by.
