going to the gym is the highlight of my day. I dont even see the point of lifting if I cant make everyone at planet fitness cower in fear of my raw masculine powerThat being said, you can do a lot with just a barbell and some plates

>>77039509>What was your best equipment purchase?Treadmill easily, rep 1100 is also nice.>What was your worst?I got stackable pylo boxes to fill out some gaps left by my 16/20/20inch combo pylo box I got for dirt cheap at walmart. Didn't really need them and they're way more annoying to move around, they weigh a ton. I'll probably just take them to the dump, I have no clue what else to do with them.
>HGGnigga you had one job (thankfully its not ai slop)
>>77039523treadmill is a patrician choice. Yeah super convenient to get that cardio in without going out in shit weather (northerner here).Never had the need for plyo boxes personally, what do you use them for? box jumps or box squats?
>>77039529Yep, hill repeats on the treadmill are awesome too. I use it all the time.I use my box for step ups and for bulgarian split squats. Also as a seat, I don't have a bench for space reasons. My gym space is tiny, I have a double garage but it's filled with yard tools and my car. The rack and barbell are in the corner. Still beats the piss out of a commercial gym.
>>77039539ahhh nobench makes sense, gotcha. BSS are sweet a great movement. Just got the belt squat attachment to mess around with, wife loves it. Praying for sweet ass gains.

I've got a power rack with a flat bench, I picked up an adjustable bench a couple months ago for Incline stuff, I also picked up some 2" Olympic loadable dumbells recently because I was maxing out some of my bowflex 552 weights. I've also got a body solid 1500 cable machine which was free but Im starting to max out alot of stuff on it too. Id say the two best things have been the boxflex dumbells and the Cable machine, lots of variations of all sorts of things you can do with both. I love lifting in my own home and being able to toss a ball down the hallway for my dog to go fetch in between sets, it's been great for both of us. Just hit 255# on the bench today, feels good for being a newbie to most of this.
>>77039509how are the pulleys on this?
Are there any usable / decent power racks in the <$400 range?Looking at stuff like the Fitness Reality 810XLT, Mikolo F4, shit from walmart, etc.I can't lift that heavy yet, I just want something to safely start pressing and barbell squats by myself. To contribute, the $80 back extension thing I got lets me do back extenions, dips, and has a good place to put my foot for bulgarians. Otherwise I just have a second-hand bench that allows for leg curls and extensions plus regular bench exercises.
>adjustable bench>two adjustable dumbells>20lb KB>ab roller>20lb weighted vest>doorframe barI kinda wish I had a heavier kettlebell but a 35lb KB is like $70 what the fuck
>>77040443They are very smooth
>>77040529Rep 1100 is solid for a bare ones rack. $370
>>77040529Spending more than $400 on a rack without integrated cables is overpaying. Pretty much any rack is safe and useable as long as you aren't letting an overloaded 800lb bar freefall onto it like a nigger. Brand name doesn't mean much for them, although cheaper ones might have issues with shipping like scuffed metal. The things to look for in a rack are>height and other dimensions fit where you want it>how deep it is, enough space to comfortably squat>pull up bar design>plate storage or not>for maximum attachment compatibility - 3x3 uprights, 1" or 5/8" holes, 1" spacing between holes>aforementioned cables, but usually in higher price range
>>77039509>best purchaseIronmasters, with the heavy handle kit and expansion kit. 135lbs each. I use them every session and they’ve never worn, rusted, broken, or otherwise failed. Drop-proof. Also, strap safeties for my rack: so much better than standard spotter arms.>>77040639>Pretty much any rack is safe and useable as long as you aren't letting an overloaded 800lb bar freefall onto it like a niggerHard disagreement. Obviously you need to watch more videos of chinesium racks from Amazon imploding on their users. You need real, quality steel, not the flimsy pot metal they make a lot of these shit imports from. And one can easily get a really good squat stand with safeties for just a little more than $400. Also be careful what you wish for when it comes to integrated cables/functional trainers. Even with the best ones, I’ve been hearing more and more dissatisfaction from people who bought them, after 1-2 years.
>she's not fat!>posts 4 year old picture as proofwhat did anon mean by this?
>>77040529If you’re new to lifting, I strongly suggest you join a gym to see if you can be consistent with training for at least six months before beginning to buy home gym gear. Second, don’t fall for buying cheap shit, especially for core gear like racks. Great quality racks are not that expensive, and when you buy cheap shit it’s a) potentially unsafe, b) nearly impossible to sell/give away except to a landfill.
>Best equipment purchaseCable tower, and camber arm attachment so I can OHP in the basement >WorstThe leg extension/curl bench attachment, it works but for the price could've spent an extra $100 and picked up a dedicated unit on FBMP
>>77041422
>>77039509>What was your best equipment purchase?impulse buy 7' axle barbell from titan>What was your worst?the mag grips I never use
>>77041078>Second, don’t fall for buying cheap shit, especially for core gear like racks. Great quality racks are not that expensive, and when you buy cheap shit it’s a) potentially unsafe, b) nearly impossible to sell/give away except to a landfill.I disagree, assuming you are buying something like the Fitness Reality or otherwise highly tested. The vast majority of power racks are extremely overbuilt and only worth getting if you want to add a bunch of shit to them later. Eric Bugenhagen's first rack was some second hand piece of shit from Taiwan.
>>77041422Damn that tower only goes to 215. I'd already be maxxed for lat pulldowns.
>>77041078I personally found it hard to bother going to a commercial gym, but I don't live close to a good gym. I also have very few needs for a gym, just a power rack and treadmill. I don't regret going home gym over commercial without doing commercial for more than a couple visits.
>>77041440yeah bro I do not like mag grips. shit is awkward
>>77041053Again those stress test youtube videos are all dropping 1000lb bars from 3 feet above the safeties. You're never doing that, I promise. And they are all made out of steel with powder coats for pretty colors, the issue is the thickness. 12 and 11 guage are just fine. The thinnest they go, or at least while still advertised, is 14 guage, which again should be fine as long as you're not an influencer who needs to see how much energy something 3x their 1RM has after accelerating for 4 feet and is really bad at math. Now one issue is if you get a half rack and it only has one set of uprights, those uprights can tilt a few degrees forward or backward even with the side mounting plates holding them in place. Maybe more of an annoyance and not a safety issue. I say that because I have a half rack, which I prefer since it's more open and comfortable, and it did that before I bought an expansion kit with a second pair of small uprights for plate storage. The safeties on a halfrack are typically sturdier than the ones on power racks, since they can only have one connection point. They also have the hard plastic covering to protect your barbell's knurling, which I don't see on many full rack safety bars.I don't actually think cables are a good mix with home gyms, I never owned any myself. I look at them and see too many things that can go wrong or needing maintenance. I can definitely see ones built into cheap/midrange racks not being very good.
>>77041480yeah, can't skimp on cable setups and they do require maintenance. It's not much, but more than nothing.
>>77041458It's good for me for the time being, but I am split on getting a dedicated row/pulldown machine or getting another tower with the functional trainer kit so I can combine the stacks and do flys as well.
I have a bench, dumbbells, a pull up station and dip bars. Can I do a full body workout with this? I've been doing pull ups, incline dumbbell bench (which is a bitch to work in my tiny apartment with no spotting, but doable) and Bulgarian split squats. What else can I do for my legs? Can you actually achieve decent hypertrophy doing dumbbell deadlifts?
Convince me not to buy a ForceUSA G12 (yes I can afford it, easily even).
Home gyms are for losers.
>>77041457>assuming you are buying something like the Fitness Reality or otherwise highly testeddon't pay full price for these btw... they go on massive discount all the time.
>>77041506My local gym is full all the time and its impossible to get on anything.
>>77041506commuting is aids. not wasting an hour in the car every day to go to the gym and back. Not even counting morning cardio
>>77041480There are plenty of videos of these things bending, collapsing, snapping, etc with normal people poundages as well. They’ve been posted here on /fit/ in the past. I’m not saying everyone has to have a Rogue or Rep setup, but it’s obvious many of these Amazon-tier brands suffer from poor materials and quality control.> I don't actually think cables are a good mix with home gyms, I never owned any myself. I look at them and see too many things that can go wrong or needing maintenance. I can definitely see ones built into cheap/midrange racks not being very good.If one has the money, get the dialed motion cable system. Their retractors are awesome and eliminate all the problems I’ve been hearing about vis a vis functional trainers. I’ve never had to do anything but routine maintenance on them. Consistently smooth pull. Company is growing and dedicated to fixing issues.

>>77039509Finally got my Kensui “Adaptabells”QA is off, one set of threads, was like 1 mm off, and did not fit all my plates. I could still find a combination that worked, so a minor inconvenience. Adaptabells are 34mm dia. GripStandard barbell is 25mm dia gripOlympic barbell is 28-34mm dia gripSo, the different size may take some getting used, I feel it improves my lifts because I get more surface more area on my palm. >>77042900>this is a post about how cheap and ass my new adaptabells are, I love them so muchWhy? I don't know what you mean by "standard" barbells, sounds like 3rd world knockoff garbage to me. Oly barbells are always 28mm, and the thickest powerlifter bars are like 29.5mm at most. 34mm sounds uncomfortable, and the more expensive option advertising 38mm grips as a pro sounds so fucking stupid. The $50 ones are fiberglass, not even the cheapest metal. They say they work with both 1" and 2" plates while still having a tight fit, which just isn't possible. Since you're complaining about the threads being too tight, I assume they're really designed for 1" plates, and they can't even do that right.

>>77043025Standard, an in for the 1 inch standard plates. Yeah, the QA is off, but I can’t say if it’s the adaptabells or just the one set of cheap plates I have. (Both setts are different by a hair). Just giving a fair review, sorry I’m not an Olympic 666 Chad like you.

>>77044534I'd get a full power rack and a bench instead, then get rid of the pull up bars. You can get dip attachments usually too.>what should I get for platesJust plain old iron plates are fine. Look for stuff around $1 per pound. Get a weight tree or something too. I have one that fits my barbell in the middle which is nice. I haven't used them but the plate holders that fit on power racks seem like a good move for space too.
>>77044273>I bought fucking bands during covid and used them a whooping total of 2 times. They're so dangerous and so inefficient.I bought pic related like 10 years ago and while I haven't used it much I just used it yesterday. I wouldn't trust a random cheap band.
>>77044534That's a waste of space. You want separate rack and adjustable bench, even if it costs more. For plates I recommend rubber. You can go cheapest with crumb rubber for $1/lb, I would say HG fitness is the best especially their thin 45lb plates. I gave them to my mother and I tried helping her use them but you had to remember a color combination for each exercise and the last time I used them I saw a video of people getting whipped hard. So I just stuck with the rings and had her start going to an open air gym.I do slow progressions, so I don't need bands for assistance. I can see the use case for that if they're higher quality, I just don't need them.

I think this is exactly the same setup as the last time I've posted, but here it is again. Right now, I think the only thing that I *need* is some more small plates, as I can't use anything larger than my 25s on OHP else I'll hit the ceiling, and I've maxed out what I have now. Well, having my own space would be a higher priority, but it is what it is>What was your best equipment purchase?I don't have much equipment, but moving from cheap squat stands to a full cage made me less scared to lift heavy weights>What was your worst?I really don't buy anything on a whim, so I think the only thing that could qualify are a set of resistance bands that I bought years ago. I thought I could do a lot more with them, but they're just really awkward to use and feel like they're mostly useful as a rehabilitation tool.
>>77046985nice and simple. I like it anon. hamstring curl machine is chef's kiss.
>>77039509>wife got some free chinesiumWell she didn't technically purchase them.>BestRogue barbell>WorstCheapo incline/decline/flat bench. While it being a bit janky is not great, the primary bad part is actually just inherently what it is. I never use decline, and the decline makes the whole thing larger and annoyingly higher off the ground than standard flat benches. The seat is strangely wide unlike your (OP's) adjustable bench. It literally flares out instead of tapers in, which is fucking retarded. It also has some really dumb footrests that get in the way, probably to compensate for its high height.>Why'd I buy it?It was COVID time and it was one of the very few available at any price, luckily when I bought it, it was still cheap as shit because paying a premium for this garbage would have been sad.Someday I will just buy separate shit. An actual dedicated flat bench and an incline.
what should I get for a bench?
>>77047030she had work perk points to get the chinese bs. But fair play. Should have grabbed the massage gun and some protein powder instead.
I don't really want for anything more. I'll eventually get a dip attachment for the rack, but I was always very picky with my setup for that exercise in gyms and don't want to buy something I won't like using. Also a large wall mirror, but the idea of finding anywhere near me that sells it and transporting/installing it means I might never bother. One day I'll get the ironmaster heavy handles, probably.I've never made a purchase I regret, at least not one that cost over $50. I carefully consider and research everything before buying. Two underrated purchases are dumbbell powerhooks for benching, and a back extension. I like the CAP one, I weigh 200lbs and can swing on it while picking a 1pl8 barbell off the floor no problem. Also not in the picture but I had to gorilla tape the stall mats together after painstakingly moving the rack and realigning them. Carpet tape was not enough to keep them together over time.
what should I invest in first barbell or dumbbells
Is pic related good enough for a complete workout at a home gym? Just a bench and some dumbbells? And with these exercises?
>>77047139You can make it work with the upper body, but absolutely not the lower body. Lunges and BSS are very hit or miss with most people, and db squat and deadlift variations are all dyel memes.
>>77047053Titan fitness, don't cheap out on your bench
>>77047139rather do bulgarian split squats over low weight db squats
>>77047053REP, don't cheap out on your bench
>>77047151BSS is amazing imo for quads if you do them narrow, but lunges are gay as fuck. I replaced them with single leg rdl
>>77047053if this is in your budget I'd get it
>>77047177It's a cool bench, ironmaster is a good company, I strongly considered it. There are only two seat positions when it's angled or upright like that, and I think they would either be way too low or too high to be comfortable for me. Also I don't give a shit about bench attachments.
>>77047155>don’t cheap out on your bench>Titanlol>>77047219Ironmaster’s bench feels amazing, you don’t have to care about the attachments, the bench itself is great. I don’t have one but used one at a friend’s gym years ago. Exceptional pad.
>>77047053have a rep nighthawk (OP) and their 5000 series flat bench. both are bulletproof, super high quality.
nicked a bench somebody threw away lolshit was scratched or pecked or smth
>>77047151I kinda like step-ups
>>77039509who is this cute in the? post her progress pic I dont home gym
>>77046989It really is nice. Got it as a hand-me-down from a family member after they got upset with it squeaking a lot. I'm happy, though, since I always wanted to get one, but wouldn't have bought one for myself for a while.>>77047053I've got a rep 3000, which is solid and gets the job done. I'm not pushing enough weight to need a higher rated one, but I'm more than happy with what I've got now. Leagues better than the flimsy and wobbly bench I started with off of amazon.

>>77039509Aside from squats/deadlifts I would like to do leg extensions/curls for my legs. The only bench I can find has a weight limit of 100lbs on the extension/curl thing. I know physique inflation is a thing but my goal has always been "look good naked" or people going "hey anon, you go to the gym right?" so would maxxing out 100lbs on extensions/curls in addition to squatting/deadlifting a similar weight be enough for decent legs? Can anyone recommend a home gym bench for just doing leg extensions/curls? (I already have a bench for benching)
a few months ago I only had a kettlebell, now I've got a kettlebell, pull-up bar, elliptical, a pair of adjustable dumbells, a weighted vest, an ab roller, and an adjustable bench
just bought a bar and 8 45lb pl8s for some basement deadlifting
>>77039509Used oympic barbell and plates- BestCheap heavy bag that tore open from overhand punching practice-worst
>>77051020>so would maxxing out 100lbs on extensions/curls in addition to squatting/deadlifting a similar weight be enough for decent legs?are you in junior high?
>>77051020Home gyms need compromises if you don't have the space or aren't willing to shell out in the ballpark of a grand per machine. You could just, I don't know, squat and deadlift more. Do front squats after back squats. Do RDLs after deadlifts. Consider split squats or barbell back extensions.
>>77051020>The only bench I can find has a weight limit of 100lbs on the extension/curl thingare you sure? that's not a loti guess you could always do single leg to make it go further, but i think you either have the numbers wrong (maybe it's kg?) or you should keep looking, maybe 2nd hand
>>77051051What are the search terms I should be using or equipment manufacturers I should be looking at to get a leg extension/curl bench similar to the pic but with a higher weight limit on the extension/curl thing?
>>77052039>elitefts>bodysolid>powertec>freak athleteAll have decent versions of what your requesting. Depends on your seriousness: the bodysolid one will do fine for most, the elitefts one is more heavy duty/commercial-tier. Freak athlete or similar contraption if you want a single piece that can do all those movements decently but none of them with excellence (also there are attachments you’ll need). I’m sure there are others, just don’t waste your money on that Marcy/Amazon crap equipment, it sucks.
>Best purchaseFreak Athlete Hyper Pro, by far. I only really use it for back extensions, QL raises, and Nordic curl progressions. But the Nordic curl progressions are the big selling point to me- I've been working my way down in angle and I'm doing them at 10° now.>Worst purchase Fucking ab wheel. Hurt myself trying to progress to standing and haven't touched it since. Worried I might have a hernia desu
>>77052039to add to what the other anon said, i got a marcy bench second hand that looks like an older version of the one you postedive worked up to 170lbs extensions and 110lbs curls (im still pretty new to lifting and doing pretty slow progression)so there has to be cheaper/budget benches that can do much more than the 100lbs you mentioned
I recommend everyone to get an airdyne bike. You can find them either extremely cheap or for free on facebook marketplace. Tons of boomers bought them and never used them and want to get rid of them. I got mine for free. They don't take up much space, and it's great cardio. It's full body cardio and it's easy on your joints
>>77051050This is why I still have a gym membership even with my home gym. I just know I would get btfo eventually doing nothing but squat, deadlift, and barbell pressing variations as a large percentage of my movements. Last year I was squatting 2x week hard and it caught up to me much quicker than I thought.>>77052628>Hyper ProI really like mine even though it doesn’t feel as good as any of its individual commercial counterparts. But that’s a really fair tradeoff imo. One thing I don’t like is storing the accessories; the leg attachment is awkward haul up and move around.>ab wheelIt’s so misleading how gyms have these lying around like they’re a basic movement. Doing an ab wheel well requires at least intermediate-level ab strength. I didn’t try one until I could knock out multiple sets of 25 on hanging leg raises. Even then it was hard, like a plank with a really tough resistance curve. I hope you don’t have a hernia, either, anon.
>>77052903Seats uncomfortable as fuck. At least replace it with a better one.
>>77039509thinking of moving my gym outside. I dont care if the weights get rust, but the barbells and olympic dumbbells should probably be kept inside or in a garden shed or something. maybe im just tarded, but the idea of working out outside and not worrying about dropping weights sounds so nice
>>77047442Titan is fine, what's your problem with them?
>>77053041Puts a lot of wear and tear on your equipment and you won't use it when the weather is bad. Wouldn't do it unless you live somewhere sunny year round. Even then I still wouldn't
>>77053368I live in socal where its always sunny, like 300+ days a year of sunshine. I figure as long as I keep the dumbbell bearings free of dirt and sand everything else should be fine. Id build something similar to a carport to keep the sun off.Lifting weights outside in good weather and being able to drop them without any thought sounds amazing. I feel like I dont push myself to my full potential because im worried about dropping weights in an uncontrolled manner and damaging my precious floor. I'm gonna do it, will report back
>>77053419Oh yeah you should be fine. Even one of those little temp plastic tent carport things would work. Probably want to put some rubber mats down so you don't get dirt on all your shit.
>>77039859I purchased this one yesterday:https://repfitness.com/products/ab-3000-fid-adjustable-bench?variant=42149286674590I will give the flybird to someone, anyone, just get it the fuck out of my life!
>>77052527>>77052874I just wanna do leg extensions like King from Tekken 3. It shouldn't be this hard to find a bench just for that. https://youtu.be/IsvtUxEFQaU?t=45
>>77053460Grats brah. 3000 is a nice quality budget bench
Just ordered an all-stainless OPB to replace my garbage temu bar, color me excited. Also picked up a second set of 25s and a fourth set of 10s, 5s, and 2.5s to finish off the iron plates I needed. Still waiting for either the IM SuperBench Pro V2 or TibBarGuy Apex Bench to land in stock with attachments so I can get off this extremely questionable Temu bench but we are cooking.

>>77053474Yep! Just me and my girly usin' it so it should last. I go no heavier than 70lb. dumbbells. The Flybird was rickety and wobbly!
>>77047057>massage gunUgh that reminds me, I'm down to 20% battery on mine and can't find the charger. 24V too, so my other stuff that uses similar barrel adapters won't work either (I have tried).
>>77056185Ahh yeah that flybird bench is sketchy as hell! I had one too for a while when I was in my apartment, shit scared me lmao. (OP)
>>77056201ahhh fuck that's the worst. Hope you find it. I wish I had one, should just cop one on amazon. Any recs for brand?
>>77056206No, I've only ever had the one (Legiral). My then-GF, now wife bought it for herself actually. It is crucial these days to helping me recover from some minor injuries lol. I'm sure there are others that are flat out better or better bang for the buck, as my wife rarely does good research. But this one works well enough that I don't need another.
>>77056213Gotcha, ty. At the very least it sounds like any old massage gun should be good enough then. Cheers
Just upgraded my bench.
