>Squats and deadlifts are horrible for your spine

Is he right?

Yup. Might have terminal looksmaxxing skill issues with the federal prison glasses, but that distended noggin generated at least a couple good ideas.
>>
>>77084664
he does squats doe...
>>
>>77084664
No he is not. Back squats are terrible for your spine, squats as a general movement pattern aren't. There are squat variations you can overload without compromising your spine e.g. belt squats, dumbbell split squats
>>
>>77084832
Real.
High rep front squats and bulgarian split squats for me.
>>
>>77084832
>Back squats are terrible for your spine
why? assuming you aren't constantly trying to 1RM like a retard
>>
>>77084884
Terrible is wat overblown but nuanced statements are ignored by everyone.
The 'problem' is you compress the spine with weight which is indeed fine if you don't go high weights 3x a week, it's mostly a risk factor if your execution is flawed because now you have a spine compressed by weight bearing down on it, in a position where your spine is vulnerable - and most people have shit squat form. Not saying one set of poor squats will fuck it up, but years of squatting will - for most people.
Luckily most people don't even train hard so the risk is negligible for gen pop
>>
>>77084970
i do heavy strict ATG squats twice a week, is spine compression really as scary as it sounds? it's not like pressure doesn't release afterwards
>>
>>77084978
Compression isn't a problem in itself, it's simply a risk factor if you mess up the exercise
I don't necessarily mean 1 big accident, but also subtle form mistakes which gradually lead to lower back pain over the years which you then ignore etc.
Basically: check your form, stop and rest if a joint hurts
>>
>>77084664
they're not, exposing your spine to controlled amounts of stress and recovering in between actually makes it stronger and more resilient
Just keep the frequency low don't train to failure all the time on heavy back squats/deadlifts, save that for accessories
>>
you have to engage your abs, like flex your tummy like crazy, when you do squats
if you don't, your back will hate you
>>
>>77086498
your abs are not going to protect you from a massive weight sitting on your back
>>
Just do zerchers.
>>
I'M OCD ABOUT MY BACK
>>
>>77084664
They are fine if done with proper form and you take enough time to recover. Most back injuries are from overexertion and overuse. If the form isn't perfect then lower the weight. If something doesn't feel right then take a break. You should only be training one or the other once per week tops.
>>
>>77084664
I can't even believe you are making this thread. LOOK AT HIM!!! If what he was saying worked would he look like this?!? You fucking retard. This is the exact same idea as listening to a guy who is working at Wendys about how to become a millionaire. It's even more embarrassing because he has admitted to taking steroids
>>77084670
Are you actually going to take advice from someone who posts an AI image that is 240p? There are so many levels of retardation to this post it's unbelievable.
>>77084978
No it's not. These idiots have no idea what they're talking about and I am suspecting it's Ketoschizo.

squat and deadlift are bad for you and you should stop doing them if you wanna keep lifting your entire life unless you are powerlifting.
you can do them if you're smart about it, but the reward to risk ratio is not worth it imo
>>
>>77088006
romanian deadlift is amazing for your back
>>
Isn't that only if you don't do other back work?
>>
>>77084664
sam for sure probably went too heavy or imperfect form cuz he's A type personality ; so it was def bad for him. but not bad for everybody. not everyone can get crazy numbers right away (or at all), and it takes a lot longer. plus he''s on roids and probably had muscle growth without corresponding tendon development causing strains and imbalance.
>>
Sam just squatted 4pl8 while streaming the other day. The Japanese guy squatted 275 and then missed 3pl8

You hurt yourself squatting bro?!
Well are you training your abs? Activating them?
Foot placement? Did you roll out your soles?
Totally balanced musculature across your whole body?
Completely perfect form as I define it?
No? No something was arguably slightly off?!

Well then OF COURSE YOU'RE GONNA FUCK YOURSELF UP! See it ISN'T a dangerous movement, it's just that a bad rep or even the slightest abnormality will blow out your lower back, so you have to be careful! But squats are TOTALLY safe dude, LOAD UP THAT SPINE WITH A SHITLOAD OF WEIGHT AND START TIPPING OVER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE OR YOU'LL NEVER MAKE IT
(oh yeah I injured myself squatting lol got a little lower back thing myself but hey it happens sometimes bro haha)
>>
>>77090885
Lmfao this is so accurate
>>
>>77084664
Sam Hyde has been roiding for years and still looks like shit, why would you take his fitness advice
>>
>>77084664
Well he's right in most cases yeah, because most people do those lifts with horrible form. They're absolutely fine if you do them right though.

I do think that casual normies who aren't serious about lifting should just stick to machines.
>>
>>77084664

worth it if you are an autistic loser who has to fit in and impress his internet friends

not worth it if you want to be able to run in your 70s and play sports with your children as they grow up

>Are you actually going to take advice from someone who posts an AI image that is 240p? There are so many levels of retardation to this post it's unbelievable.
This made me kek hard
>>
>>77090885
Literally no squat people care or talk about any of these things
These are the things non-heavy lifters obsess over
>>
>>77091058
No they don't and "horrible" form presents the same problem, which is the idea that loading weight on your spine is bad. It isn't. The only reason "bad form" is a risk is because it puts your soft tissue in danger.
Putting heavy weight on your spine isn't bad. And getting strong is the most protective thing for your back you can do.
This is all superstitious tier fear mongering mom science in here.
>>
>>77091050
I look way better than him (similar muscle mass w/ less fat but ofc not postin' fap material), not on roids, and still agree with the dead/squatz advice even though I think he's generally a walled midwit.
>>
>>77091076
I was so much less athletic when I was doing ss and a bunch of squats. However deadlifts have never had any effect on my back and 100% have made me stronger and less injury prone in my experience
>>
>>77084664
Yes
>>
>>77088074
>romanian deadlift is amazing for your back
I am more of a macedonian reverse side banana split squat guy myself
>>
>>77091176
I think people who don't squat don't realize some of the weight is distributed onto the back and ab muscles you're engaging. Like if someone benches 315, do they think only the arm bones are holding up the 315lbs
>>
>>77084664
sam hyde squats all the time

Yesterday I did 4 sets instead of my usual 3 and I hit 2 PRs (relatively light weights - 115*10 and 125*8) these weights are heavy for me since I'm somewhat of a beginner.

I also use squat wedges. I have a long femur so I have to bend forward a bit to balance myself. I do lowbar ATG back squats. After the workout, my lower back was sore - the kind of soreness you get from doing back hyperextensions. Today, my lower back feels tender. It feels funky deep inside. Am I doing something wrong? I really want to slowly work my way up to heavy squats in a manner that will benefit my health without causing any injury.
>>77086248
How much frequency is too high? I do 3x10 twice a week with increasing weights for each set.
>>77088006
I feel this way about deadlifts but I don't want to give up squats. It just feels amazing, like some raw and primal.
>>
>>77092650
>I have a long femur
>I do lowbar ATG back squats
Why. You sure enjoy torturing yourself.
>>
>>77092778
What's the solution? Just accept that I can't do atg squats because of my long femurs? The squat wedges help somewhat.
>>
>>77084664
They’re horrible for your spine if you’re a tall guy because you have to bend over so much to achieve balance it becomes a good morning. Back squats were made for short people. Everyone else is better suited to some kind of smith/machine/special squat bar movement where you can easily adjust the balance to be more upright.
>>
I just finished doing 100 squats.
>>
>>77093722
I'm 5'6" but my femur length is roughly 28% of my total height. Should I also stop squatting?
>>
>>77093711
yea just don't do them lol
>>
>>77084664
He’s a dysgenic, fat roidhead with 0 aesthetics. There’s no reason to listen to him. Squats and deadlifts won’t ruin your spine if you don’t let them. Common sense without egorepping a max weight you can’t do will preserve your health. Squats aren’t the end all be all for legs. You could do them on one day and do a leg press the next. You could do a RDL in place of a deadlift at times and still be uninjured. Beginners shouldn’t do them though. If you’re a complete DYEL that can’t even touch your toes or are very uncoordinated, just do machines. The mechanics of these compounds are just too much for you, so just do exercises that a complete retreat can’t mess up.

I fucked up my back doing squats and deadlifts, had to get surgery for slipped disc. Even today i can't sit for prolonged periods of time so i just lay in bed and wither away.
