About to spend more than a grand on this.

Talk me out of it.

I have thought about getting one of these for a long time, but I don't really want to fatigue my back with cardio.

it's really good exercise
you will not regret it
the foot straps for the ones in my gym are so wore down that they loosen while rowing, sucks big time

you can easily control the toughness by not pushing/pulling as hard, really that's where the resistance comes from, not the dials that everyone turns up to 10.

Why buy this when you can just use exercise bands dumbbells barbells etc ? Are training for the rowing team?

a kayak is a better option, for one thing you row facing forward and don't need the water to be perfectly still

that's what the fishing game is for, you can play games on the tiny screen that you control with your rowing, one is about eating smaller fish and not getting eaten by sharks, my favorite one just showed cartoon boats to help you visualize your own pace

Kayaks barely utilise legs though
>>

it can be stored upright, and they're cheap 2nd hand
that said, as many have pointed out, it is boring as shit and you won't stick to it unless you're part of a rowing club, are in prison or have a very good excuse for doing it
>>
>>77087445
>as many have pointed out, it is boring as shit
it's an indoor machine, boring compared to what? static cycling? elliptical? treadmill? it's the same shit
>>
>>77087448
>boring compared to what? static cycling? elliptical? treadmill?
yes
>>
>>77087448

The thing with the rowing machine is that it requires constant active effort from the user to keep the workout going. It's mentally very taxing and hard to self-motivate. I have one and have barely used it because of this.
A treadmill or stairmaster or whatever, the machine sets a pace and you keep up. Running outside, you have momentum, you have distractions.
On a rower you power the workout and if you stop, it stops.
Perhaps not the best explanation but in short rowing machines require a greater mental effort than other forms of cardio.
>>
>>77087505
>than other forms of cardio.
other forms of machine based cardio. if you stop skipping or running or swimming, you stop.
>>
>>77087510
Skipping, swimming, jogging are done at around 60/120, 90/180 spm, rowing is around 20/35. Relative to any other form of cardio you stop with every stroke.
Stop arguing about shit you haven't tried you fat piece of shit get a gym membership they have all of the cardio machines for you to try. No one will bully you there I promise.
>>
>>77087505
>It's mentally very taxing and hard to self-motivate.
>On a rower you power the workout and if you stop, it stops.
that's a you issue, learn to self-regulate, none of your made up problems apply to rowing
>>
>>77086600
holy fuk i had no idea such faggotry did or even could exist. these people are worried about looking gay for using a rower or bike but lookatme!! skipping overunders with an overpriced cable attached to two maglites that don't even light up? this is cringier than the thing where you just hold the handles and pretend there's a rope.
>>
>>77087540

I'm not saying rowing machines aren't good cardio or that some people can get great use out of them. I'm saying that if you're already struggling to motivate yourself for cardio, buying a rowing machine is probably not going to work out.
There are other, less gruelling forms of cardio that don't cost much if anything.
There's also an issue of proportions. If you're not built right, rowing is going to be less enjoyable.

>>
>>77085675
rowing machines are an excellent workout. both for strength and stamina.
you can most likely get away with less though. but not that much. I got the Domyos 500B from Decathlon and I have to take it apart to tighten all screws again every 3 months or so.
>>
>>77087752
$825 of which the government will immediately collect as capital gains taxes, leaving you with $3475
but to match the purchasing power of your initial $1000 thirty years later (at an inflation rate of 3% p.a.), you'd need $2427
so really, you only got around $1500 out of it.
unless inflation was higher, which it most likely will have been for a few of those years. and you are hoping that you're at ATH when you sell, too, and not just in one of the years where you get cucked hard and then need another to recover

putting off a purchase that would help with your fitness and then waiting 30 years just for that is more than questionable. investing isn't nearly as amazing as people claim, not even at high yields, unless you are insider trading and manage to pull those "40% within a few days" stunts every now and then.
>>
>>77093063
Not to mention there's no better investment than a fit and healthy body, so that in 30 years you're not some weak, fat, out of shape decrepit old fuck.

It's amazing how many people are willing to put in the effort to invest, save, etc, only for it all to be washed away by health issues in their sixties because they didn't take care of themselves well enough.
I'm really interested to see the bifurcation of life expectancy in the next fifty years or so, since a significant portion of young people are lifting weights, eating well, and doing cardio regularly, while many others are just melting into their couches while they look at tiktok and order in.
But I guess if you're living longer because you're healthy, that's all the more reason to be investing.
>>

>>77085675
I have that exact model and I like it.
It's funny, I used to do a ton of rowing back when I was in college, and then I stopped when I picked up powerlifting, and now I am back to rowing again because this Winter has been absolutely miserable for running and I decided that I needed a way to get my cardio in without leaving the house. Now it's just chilling in the corner of my office and I can whip it out whenever I feel like doing a workout.
>>
>>77085675
