So ones where you're using your hands seem to be OP
>>
>>77103855
isnt lifting mostly about qol. not losing muscles and being able to lift heavy things once you are older. if its strictly about longevity its all about the heart anyway. you nignogs act like this is some profound new discovery.
>>

Lol lmao
90% of 1/2 your time is standing in the field doing nothing, and 90% of the other 1/2 is sitting waiting to bat

>be 80 years old and about to die
>buy a gun and take up shooting
>start doing gymnastics and fencing
>race walk home and pole vault into bed

It's literally that simple.

Being fat, easily winded, prone to falls has a significant correlation with earlier mortality.

all of this is a giant meme anyways.

Is there any attempt to explain way volleyball is so bad? Did the study's authors even guess? Because, you've got: racquet sports, gymnastics, pole vaulting. They're among the best. But the athletic skillset seems very similar. All the other bad sports make logical sense. They're dangerous, fuck up your body, give you CTE or have to be obese.
>>
>>77103914
Retarded take. What is the 'meme'? It's a study. It's not prescriptive. It's not telling you to do this or that. It's just an attempt to quantify data, to better understand reality. What anybody does with that information is up to themselves.

nothing I said was wrong.
You don't "gain longevity" you spent years of your life working out, so time was not gained.
if you can't understand synergy you should fuck off back to /soc/ or whatever other looksmaxxing faggot board you come from jeet.
>>
>>77103855
>pole vaulting and fencing that high up
This is almost a rich sport sort, their longevity is correlated with wealth except in cases like Sumo wrestling
>>
>>77103863
I'm convinced that shit is the wrong way around. People who are preserving more muscle can continue to exercise, not that the exercise is preserving it.
>>
>>77103990
Nobody is competing in gymnastic or playing tennis because they saw this spreadsheet. They do it because they want to. They enjoy it. Your criticism is dumb. And what about the sports with lower than pop average lifespans, so they've not only wasted time training. But they don't even gain anything either. Is that not interesting? Is this data not worth studying? Why? Because you say so? If 'special olympics' was a category on this list, it would be your exact lifespan. Because you are a retard.
>>
>>77103997
Yeh. I was thinking that. Fencing, sailing, equestrian. Are they healthy sports. Or, do the people who do them just afford good healthcare and have comfy lives in big houses.
>>
>>77104008
>They do it because they want to.
Okay so they are retarded.
>>
>>77104014
>can afford to live away from cities and pollution
>can afford water filtration systems for the entire house
FYI^ matters a lot for maintaining hair, the chemials they put into city water is absurdly damaging to hair/scalp
>can afford clean foods
>can afford pedigree blood testing with non almost failed out of med school doctors
>don't have house hold carcinogenic material like paints and cleaners in their homes
>don't deal with stress of chronic work

direct correlation that people who work real jobs rarely if ever have six packs.
>>
sumochads...
>>
>>77104014
Surely a factor but not a sufficient explanation on its own, considering there are many non-rich-people sports in between fencing and golf.

What definitely seems to be a trend is that hand-to-hand combat hurts longevity and, interestingly enough, team sports specifically ball sports are less beneficial compared to almost everything else.
>>
>>77104054
The non-rich people sports above golf are all track and field. Thing about track and field is at the higher levels you have to travel a lot to compete. I'd still call those luxury sports.
>>
>>77103855
link the study retard
at least the fucking DOI

also looks more like a
>social class
tierlist

pole vaulting, fencing, sailing, diving, skiing are all relatively "expensive" sports
if you're not upper middle class in a developed country, you won't ever come into contact with these sports (with some exceptions)

also football being (almost) neutral as sport played through all societal classes is a good hint to this as well

I actually did pole vaulting as teen / early 20s
a single pole can easily be 1000€, even the kids ones were hundreds of € per, and you need multiples of different poles

>weightlifting no effect
why would you assume that it has a positive effect?
weightlifting produces incredible unsustainable physiques on a pro level
for body building specifically it's not unheard of that people just die in their 20s or 30s
which, for almost every other sport on this list. would be highly unusual

casual weightlifting only really got popular within the last ~20y
so it should be harder to see actual long term results for normal people
>>
>>77104054
Fencing is a hand to hand combat sport.

>>77104065
Track and field are poor people sports, that's why there are so many blacks in them.
>>
>>77104114
Getting poked by a foil isn't giving you CTE. I'm pretty sure getting punch drunked into dementia is what's taking years off their life.
>>
>>77104054
>considering there are many non-rich-people sports in between fencing and golf.
which ones?

because every solo sport will always be more expensive than (ball based) team sports
not only for equipment (if any) but for training lessons and going to competitions as well
also considering solo sports are mainly started by kids with "ambitious" parents with enough time+money to support it

the only exception on this above Golf is Cricket
which I know absolutely nothing about, so no clue why it's there

but for every other sport this trend absolutely tracks
>top ones have pro athletes from rich countries, usually from more upper class families
>middle / bottom ones are popular (national) sports everywhere with low barriers to entry and are much more mixed
>>
>>77103977
Yes. We all know this. It's just the amount of suicide short guys commit that balance out the stats a little.
>>
>>77104114
>Track and field are poor people sports
KEK
certainly not in Europe
and certainly not at the "below-Olympia" pro level

training is more expensive than team sports
going to competitions needs parents with time, sometimes (a little) money

in Germany track and field clubs are basically only upper middle class kids from academic households

>that's why there are so many blacks in them.
no
that is because minimal genetic advantages make up huge differences here that you can't compensate with more training or better technique

and it's not "blacks"
it's like half a dozen regions in the world where most of the top track and field athletes come from
it's (epi)genetic

This is about the sport weightlifting, not the activity of weightlifting. Almost no one here weightlifts competitively. Have you seen weightlifters? They are clearly not healthy, they are just built to pick heavy shit up. It's a wonder they aren't lower.
>>
>>77104144
it's the opposite in USA.
every town has a football field and every football field has a track around it.
so track teams are really really common.

here sports like tennis are considered high brow.
>>
>>77104144
>in Germany
Globally speaking, in Germany EVERYONE is rich. Kenya is very poor relatively speaking, and yet they produce many world class track and field athletes.

Damn you're right ngl. Check out their builds too, really interesting how they pick and choose what areas to train because they have to budget their weight. Maybe light(er)weights are on the higher end of the distribution of OP's chart. I'd be interested in seeing the whole paper.
>>
>>77104186
doping is based, also you are just dumb if you don't think Kenyans are advantaged naturally
>>
>>77104190
They're not bodybuild sculpting themselves to look like that. That's just the bod you get by only doing snatch and clean and jerk.
>>
>>77104171
athletes in the US get way more support on every level
I think the US is the global exception here

and you can find tracks in every small city as well
track and field clubs are relatively common, most of the population probably live within like 20min of one

but that's no the point
it's the actual composition of people or rather kids, as this study way about pro athletes and you need to start as child to go pro
and that's heavily leaning towards the upper middle academics class here

>>77104176
the absolute wealth is only important for objectively expensive sports like Pole Vaulting or Sailing

even in "rich" european countries
parents still need the time + money to drive their kids to a competition 100km away
they still need to pay the 50€ tournament fee every few months
if you're living paycheck to paycheck, you're not spending thousands of € every year so your kids can do a sport
compared to that, e.g. football is really cheap and tournaments are often free with your sports club organizing the ride

>and yet they produce many world class track and field athletes
no.
one region! in Kenya produces many world class track and field athletes
and only after some european trainer discovered this a few decades ago
and since then government funded scouts specifically to go there to look for kids with potential and put them on a sport "scholarship"
>>
>>77104201
why are you responding to me?
I'm american.

I know that track fields are really common.
literally every town has one.
>every town has a football field and every football field has a track
direct quote
>>
>>77104130
>which ones?
Running and sprinting which are dominated globally by Africans and definitely not rich people.
I'll concede though that in Western countries it's probably primarily practiced by middle to upper class.

Either way, on the bottom you still have volleyball, ice stick sports, bobsledding, curling and mountaineering all of which are also predominantly practiced by wealthy white people.
So I still don't think that the list can be explained primarily or even solely by economic factors.

>>77104114
>Fencing is a hand to hand combat sport.
You're right, I wanted to differentiate between armed und unarmed and was wrong in my choice of words.
>>
>>77104307
>volleyball,
no clue why this is at the bottom and not middle
but that's more of a sport for the masses, so i'd expect it to be in the middle
>curling
that one confuses me as well

>ice stick sports, bobsledding, and mountaineering
but these are all relatively "dangerous" and the first two are known to cause long term brain damage because of the forces on the head
that study was about pro sports
so they are excessively exposed to this which in term probably reduces the life expectancy

>>77104210
my mistake, should have been
>and you can find tracks in every small city in Germany as well
i wanted to say that field and track is technically accessible in Europe as well
but there's much less (financial) support and it's not connected to schools like it's in the US
that's why it's not a "middle class" sport here
>>
>>77103855
that list is just “what sports do rich people do”
>>
This is pretty much just a list in order of leanest to fattest.
>>
>>77104118
The guy youre arguing with is retarded
>>
>>77103990
>You don't "gain longevity" you spent years of your life working out, so time was not gained.
you are literally too dumb to understand, i'm impressed
>>
>>77104683
>This is pretty much just a list in order of leanest to fattest.
this is a list about pro athletes
no one on this list is fat except Sumo and Weightlifting

if you mean by total weight
that'd be also wrong
as Gymnastics, track and field, Fencing or Rowing are on the top and have pretty mixed or even heavy athletes (in case of rowing)

and on the bottom, sledding / luging, mountaineering or table tennis have some of the lightest / leanest athletes

if anything obviously correlates
>direct, regular brain damage from X sport negatively correlates
>entry hurdles / price of equipment needed positively correlates
>>
>>77104176
>Globally speaking, in Germany EVERYONE is rich.
We are among the poorest in the EU.

Also, sports aren't really athing ehr eexcept football/soccer. Nothing else is really done in any meaningful numbers. It's mairacle we manage to score any medals at all, to be honest. Our weightlifters still use oral steroids ffs. ORALS. AT THE OLYMPIC LEVEL. We're stone age tier when it comes to sports.

Source: A doctor I go to also treats Olympians (with acupuncture!), he talks about it sometimes.

>>77104186

Africa is really a hotbed for doping, there are basically no anti-doping bodies there. It's free for all, like Cuba or Jamaica.

>you are just dumb if you don't think Kenyans are advantaged naturally
American or retarded?

>racewalking is better than mountaineering

There it is, the stupidest thing I've read all day
>>
>>77106199
In terms of longevity. Yes. That seems logical and obvious. Why does that sound stupid to you? Very few racewalkers fall off cliffs.
>>
>>77103898
kek bryans johnsons hate him
>>
We already know that almost all the longevity benefit of exercise comes from cardio, so looking at which sports make you live longer is pretty pointless. No need to try to reason backward from correlations in observational studies. Just do cardio
>>
>>77103855
since fairly similair sports dont cluster in this graph, this graph just shows that an accumilation of other factors have more impact than just sports.

The ones that are on the leaner side are probably good though.

This is also where the "one glass of wine a day is good for you" myth comes from btw
>>
>>77106633
>This is also where the "one glass of wine a day is good for you" myth comes from btw
no it's not
the main reason was that
>sick people
>really old people
>former / clean alcoholics
usually don't drink
and those were all counted towards the "non-drinkers" category

once you clean up your data with this knowledge,
zero alcohol has a clear, statistical relevant health benefit over even a little bit of alcohol

though, the "statistical advantage" (like for all cause mortality) is quite small
and as the faulty data was undetected for that long
it really begs the questions if you should even care about a glass of wine per day
because there a lot of other, way more impactful, things you can do for your health
>>

>Is there any attempt to explain way volleyball is so bad?
Because 90% of the players just stand there and do no actual movement other than a few shuffles here and there to re-position.

Why do you think females gravitate towards it? Because it's a very lazy sport.
>>
