What would you say is the most pervasive fitness or nutrition related myth that most people believe that is just objectively false?

You named it, eggs being bad and dietary cholesterol affecting blood cholesterol. It took decades but nutritionists finally admitted they got it wrong but the damage was done. People are still terrified of the yolk even though that’s where all the nutrients are
>>
That saturated fat doesn’t raise blood cholesterol
That blood cholesterol levels can be completely ignored
>>
>>77104530
Read the OP again, only keto and carnivore quacks think eating lots of saturated fat is good or doesn’t raise blood cholesterol. Most people know lots of sat fat is bad which is why there’s never been a dietary requirement for it and the limit is basically 20-25g

Most people I know are terminally online like I am and believe this
Maybe normies are different I suppose

Calories/CICO+ vegetables being this staple you simply cannot avoid. Lately there's also a fiber and prooootein craze but both will die very soon.

Cholesterol is good for you, calcification and buildup only happens with rancid oxidized PUFAs
>>
>>77104499
Americans are mad they ate nothing but shitty processed white bread their entire lives so now they think all bread is bad.
>>
>>77104530
I wouldn’t completely ignore blood cholesterol but you shouldn’t need to worry much about it regardless of diet usually. Mine was slightly elevated but I brought my good cholesterol up by 10% and my bad down by 25% after I took up running. Being sedentary in general is bad for you and some people think going ti the gym alone is a substitute for cardio. Your body is meant to move, lifting weights isn’t enough.
>>
>>77104799
There is actually no good cholesterol
The less the better

The whole concept of the Mediterranean diet as people know it isn’t real. It was cooked up by Americans who only looked at what they ate during lent not year round. Pretty much part of the SDA propaganda campaign. Blue zones are largely a meme built on shoddy science as well. Everyone jerks off Okinawa but there’s a lot of fraud going on where people are listed as alive even though they died ages ago

They're both shit. They are densely packed calories that could have come from a healthy source instead, that being non-linoleic unsaturated fat.
>>
>>77104826
The Mediterranean diet is a funny one. Anti-meat people will cite it in their defense saying that the health benefits are due to the plant oils and vegetables, While the Pro-meat people will say it's due to the dairy and fish and meat. What you're saying is true though. The Mediterranean diet really is just an amorphous, made up conglomeration of things and isn't actually a dietary pattern of Mediterranean people.
>>
>>77104499
I have high cholesterol. Doing soft keto. I really need something simple and easy to eat, people always tell me I need to learn how to cook but I don't like cooking. Just want to buy a bunch of fish sticks and eat that. With raw broccoli and some fruit. I wish my mom didn't want me to "learn how to cook" and would just let me eat the same shit everyday. It's her that wants a varried and entertaining diet. I could eat the same shit everyday and be completely happy.

Women cooking was a mistake

I guess peanuts and cheese too.... as a snack

Yeah I'm not watching your stupid video
>>
Keto is dangerous, it's exactly why I switched to it. Man I feel good afterwards
>>
>>77105749
It is good for mental clarity. Sugar carbs are a large portion of why you want to eat. Especially if you don't have the best insulin system. Getting off the insulin treadmill is life changing.
>>
>>77105749
Keto feels good because you feel full all the time and it takes long to feel hungry again and your stomach doesn't get bloated with gas if you just fill your belly with protein and fat.
>>
>>77104499

It's essential for proper hormone production.
After the vegan fallout it should be clear that the Cholesterol scare was another attempted murder on public health. There's a problem with food quality and quantity though.
>>
>>77105900
I know this is probably a weird question, but you think the demonization of saturated fat and cholesterol has anything to do with the prevalence of autoimmune disease and irritable bowel syndrome these days in basically everyone?
>>
>>77104530
>the science is in
I'm just gonna use conventional knowledge on this one.
>>
>>77106535

To some extent yes, but there's also pollution, as in a wide array of chemicals, destroying the body's sub systems.
>>
>>77104799
There is actually no bad cholesterol
The more the better
>>
>>77104499
YAY! Another diet debate thread! I wonder whether the ketoschizos or the vegansissies will win this time?

>What would you say is the most pervasive fitness or nutrition related myth that most people believe that is just objectively false?
the ((industry)) doesn't want you to know that the boomers were right: basic cardio and eating your veggies is the key to health and longevity
>>
>>77106535
Not necessarily, but it definitely contributed to obesity and diabetes.
>Oh no, fat will kill me
>Oh look, this is low-fat and therefore healthy
>Sugar? But it says it's fruit sugar, so it must be good
>>
>>77106721
What? I agree with your premise, but the last line is ridiculous. Nobody has said or ever thought this.
>>
>>77104499
I can do a whole list of these.
>carbs are bad
>sugar causes diabetes
>fiber is useless
>protein will cause muscle growth
>fat doesn't make you fat
>dietary cholesterol raises blood cholesterol
>you need dietary cholesterol
>saturated fat is good for you
>trans fats don't exist
>you don't need vitamin C or B12
>carbs are "non-essential" so you don't need to eat carbs
>you need to eat calcium for your bones
>plants contain "anti-nutrients" so they are toxic
>burning calories through exercise is not effective
>fat people have a lower metabolism than thin people
>>
MYTH: CICO works
FACT: Carbohydrates are poisonous and you can lose weight faster, more consistently, and in a healthier manner by reducing or eliminating carbohydrates from the diet.
>>
>>77104499
>Abs are built in the kitchen
You have to train them like every other muscle. Progressive overload with weights.
>>
>>77104499
No one has mentioned one of the most pervasive beliefs (probably because it's a tacit assumption everyone seems to share) which is that fitness has to be a lifestyle choice, pervading everything. The number of times people have thought I'm an athlete SIMPLY because I bike to commute sometimes as opposed for the convenience is ridiculous. Either you're a fat, SAD american slop golem or a fitard, no in between.
>>
>>77106783
Fitness is a lifestyle, though. You are posting on a fitness enthusiast forum.
>>
>>77106918
Literally what I'm talking about. It can be a lifestyle and is for people on this board (that lift, so actually no one), but it doesn't have to be at all and society would improve greatly if everyone did some baseline of activity, sports, lifting whatever without needing to be an enthusiast. You're an example of someone that believes the myth.
>>
>>77104499
"Your metabolism is fine, it doesn't slow after 30, that's pseudoscience"
>>
>>77107532
Nobody has ever said this. Stop forming your worldview from memes on this board
>I dont
Yeah thats why you picked 30 right
>>
Thinking that eating over 120 grams of protein will magically grow muscle. Excluding women, most people match or exceed their protein requirements. Lower your protein intake from 130 to 90-95g and there’s no real difference. I fell for the protein craze awhile back. All you’re doing is just damaging your kidneys in the long run. I wouldn’t trust online calculators as well, especially ones that come from trainers or companies selling supplements. The numbers they pump out are ridiculous and their definitions of activity levels are arbitrary
>>
>>77108151
>Thinking that eating over 120 grams of protein will magically grow muscle.
Nobody thinks this
>>
>>77104499
You see the opposite of the low fat trend from the 90s these days in fitness circles. Even though healthy fats exist, the less fat you eat the better. You don’t need more than 50g a day
>>
>>77108446
>Even though healthy fats exist, the less fat you eat the better. You don’t need more than 50g a day
This is a non sequitur.
>>
>>77108568
Not that anon, but this applies to everything. Eating too much period is bad for fitness. If you do overeat, it should however come from healthy fats. Better to be fat and healthy than "skinny" and sick.
>>
>>77108591
You didn't address what I said at all and nothing you said is relevant to my post.
>>
>>77104499
So many
>Max strength increases speed
>Toning doesn't exist
>Spot reduction doesn't exist
>Carbs are bad
>You only need 1g protein per kg bodyweight
>You can gain muscle mass with low volume-high intensity
>You need weights to build muscle and strength
>>
>>77105900
>It's essential for proper hormone production.
Back when everyone ate low fat, we didn't have a testosterone crisis.
>>
>>77108446
Back in the 90s people were slim and healthy
Now everyone is fat and has chronic illnesses

I rest my case.
>>
>>77106918
>Fitness is a lifestyle, though.
No it isn't.
>>
>>77108612
