I want to learn how to fence
>>77105421It's a really interesting sport to play, but it's not intensely /fit/. Most of your sweat comes from a bit of adrenaline spiking while being wrapped in thick canvas protective gear and a moderately ventilated mask. You'd do best to train cardio, wrist/forearm/shoulder, and lunging leg strength, but other than that it's not physically taxing. You need to practice precision and dexterity, and leverage principles and feinting strategy, which is where the interesting part comes in.My experience only applies to epee, which I believe to be the most pure fencing due to the simplest rules.
>>77105421its /fit/ in that it's a lean man's game
>>77105421Zuck fenced in high school and he wishes he did MMA or at least wrestling instead
>>77105421no. do bjj.
>>77105421>I want to learn how to fenceeasiest is if you're in university and try it out thereotherwise clubs are mostly shitty and expensive (if you're not committed already)>Is fencing /fit/?the training, yesactual competitive fencing, not reallyit's more of a cardio sporttraining is akin to HIIT workoutsstrength training is mostly restricted to explosive body weight exercisesfencing is one of the few sports where genetics play a very little roleironically it's still one of the most gatekept sports, i.e. good coaching impossible to get access to outside of "fencing families"
>>77105421Great for footwork and lower body explosiveness (meaning rate of power production and not strength). Otherwise it's mostly cardio, which is fine.Saber is more fun. HEMA in general is more interesting if you can tolerate the fan base being renfaire autists and Vikings tv show watchers.
