I got the surgery and now it always looks like it used to look in these perfect conditions only. The scar is still healing and I've had a little complication where my left side scar retains some sort of fluid or something but my surgeon said it will go away eventually. Overall I'm really glad I did the surgery even though I could have coped with it forever as it wasn't "that bad". The surgeon was upfront from the beginning about this possibility and that it was rare after the first few months of recovery. They do have to cut some nerves to access the tissue under the nipple, but it’s an area with excellent blood supply, so nerve regrowth is usually not an issue. My surgeon told me the people who have had that issue are typically obese when they get the surgery: the surgeon has to cut through and/or remove much more tissue than someone like OP, where it’s literally just a tiny incision under the nipples plus cannula incision near the armpit for any contouring needed after the gland tissue is excised. And even if I had ended up with permanent numbness in my nipple area, I’d still have done it and considered it a better-than-even trade.
