So how important is sleep actually, everyone talks about it but is getting like 6 hours really that much different to getting 8
>>
Try it nigga
>>
it seems to get better as you get older. You can get away with hardly any sleep.
but its not actually something you want to do continually.
if you dont sleep you will go into a coma thats the worst case

Before that you just start becoming a fuck up
>>
>>77140210
been a while since I looked at the meta but I don't think the "sleep whenever you're tired" method has been patched yet. your body wakes you up when it has had it's fill
>>
>>77140210
Erratic sleeper here, from experience I can tell you: 8 hours is the gold standard. 6 hours is ok for a few days but sleep debt will have to be paid. 5 hours will get you through *one* day. You can show up somewhere after 4 hours of sleep but only your body will be there, you will be brain dead. Anything less than 3 hours of sleep will get you through a few hours of being awake but you will be suffering and your body *will* force you to sleep. You can compensate somewhat with bi-phasic sleeping (sleeping a few hours now, sleeping another few hours later) but one big 8 hour block of sleeping will make you feel better than two four hour blocks of sleep.
>>
>>77140227
You’re not an “erratic sleeper” you’re just a faggot
Kids used to sleep 3 hours in European trenches or Vietnamese Jungle and then get up and live in a kill or be killed environment for the next 20 hours and they were fine
Meanwhile you’re sitting here “finding it muh hard to adult if I only get 7 hours instead of 8”
Grow up
>>
If i had the option to get more testosterone or more/better sleep, I would choose the sleep every single time
thats how important it is

Quality > Quantity
The only problem is that increasing sleep quality is much, much harder than just sleeping longer. Every study and every influencer has their supposedly "proven" tricks to make your sleep quality god tier... but to be honest I've never found any of them to be reliable.
The feeling of waking up after six SOLID hours of sleep just cannot be beat by eight hours of okayish sleep.
I just said that methods are unreliable, but FOR ME the only "proven" tricks are:
>cardio, zinc & vitamin D, protein RIGHT before bed
>>
>>77140238
Meanwhile fat ugly boomers at work brag about how hard they work with how little sleep and how much less money they made while calling you a pussy for not drinking 10 cups of coffee a day
>>
>>77140232
Knowing someone may blow your head smooth off at any point is basically like blasting peds full time, not comparable with the standard of living we have right now
>>
>>77140210

8 hours should be fine. If you're sick then of course sleep more.
>>
>>77140232
>grug did wall paints with his own shit that have remained until present days but you are here using trillions of dollars of high technology equipment to call someone a faggot
Mogged and theres no recovering from this

>Quality > Quantity
This
Some nights I get lucky with a really heavy sleep, I basically don't even dream and it's all just black and next morning I wake up great even though I slept like 6 hours
I have no idea how that happens though, I usually sleep 8
I like /fit/ sleep discussions
>>
>>77140271
>I have no idea how that happens though
You could start a sleep quality journal, and write down the things you do each day to find patterns
>>
>>77140271
stop eating 3 hours before bed time
have a sleep routine you do every day for 15mins before bed
stop all blue light after 5pm
don't drink coffee and if you do stop as soon as possible during the day (i stop at 11am but even before would be better, another alternative would be to cycle coffee like only two days during the week)
reduce your cortisol level as the evening get closer
breathing exercice (reduce cortisol)
knowing wether you are someone who naturally wakes up early or not, some people are just morning person and some arent, i find that i'm a morning person and i just cant sleep after 8am, so my only option is to go to bed earlier

Sleep quality 10000% hack:
Have sex just before midnight and fall asleep cuddling your wife
>>
>>77140232
I've actually been in the army. I'm well aware of the sleep deprivation. That's part of my experience of various amounts of sleep.
>>
>>77140321
No you haven’t faggot
>>
>>77140339
The only reason you're "fine" with 3h of sleep in the army is because you're not expected to use your brain except for instinctive purposes like dropping to the ground when you hear an explosion.
Not that anon but I'm from a conscription shithole cunt, "survining" on 3h of sleep is not sustainable at all. Plus you get napping opportunities constantly for micro-sleep, like when riding on the back of a truck etc.
>>
>>77140317
Doesn't work, I am way too hot. I will make us both overheat in 5 minutes
>>
>>77140357
This anon understands.
>>
>>77140210
This idiot looked 80 but died before he even turned 70. Enjoy sleep.
>>
I know i need every second of sleep and i need to take care to have good quality too.
I just dropped caffeine, sleep quality improved tremendously.
>>
>>77140214
Remember Rippetoe mentioning as one of the biggest factors in strength decline as you age, you start sleeping less hours for whatever reason and your body can't recover the way it used to.

>>77140232
yeah, those vietnam vets really came out of it great on the other side kek

>>77140210
those guys don't need to stay awake too much, they barely work. theyre up because they do coke and transport kids and european women from place to place. listening to the wealthy for advice is actually a joke, because they got it by inheritance or robbery.

I sleep 24 hours a day for perfect recovery. I am asleep right now
>>
>>77140210
I find as little as 3 hours can be replenishing and 6ish hours is the sweet spot where i wake up really energetic
>>77140214
Terribly wrong and misleading
Birth to the end of puberty = have to strictly sleep your +8 hours
Late teen to late 20's = can get away with basically any amount of hours, proportional to your physical activity tho it might reduce performance but you wont get complications without prolongated insomnia
30's and beyond = you need to hit the sack hars again old man

I tried getting 5 hours of sleep a night for a few months. It never got better. Always felt awful. I think having a better reason to get up, like making millions of dollars by being available for deals, trades, purchases, etc., all that shit the rich people dabble in, maybe it becomes worth it. It won't be worth it if you're working at fucking Buc-ee's.
>>
7 hours seems to be the sweet point
>>
>>77142411
Pic not related, amirite?
>>
>>77140210
I feel the best when I sleep 9-10 hours, 8 hours is OK, 7 hours is meh, 6 hours is bad, and any less means that my whole day is gonna fucking suck.
>>
>>77140210
Sleep cycles are about 90 minutes long with the first 20 being shallow sleep and the next 70 being deep sleep. If you wake up in the first 20 minute you feel awake and alert. If you wake up in deep sleep you feel slow and groggy. The reason 8 hours is recommended is to account for people taking time to fall asleep, so you end up sleeping 7.5, or 5 cycles.

As for the number of cycles, listen to your body. Don't set an alarm and see how long it takes you to wake up. You'll being to see about how many cycles your body wants and about how long your cycles are (If you wake up after 6 hours and 12 minutes, for example, you cycles are probably 93 minutes long and your body want four cycles; everyone is a little different). Personally my cycles are almost exactly 90 minutes and I get either two or three a night. If I go to sleep without an alarm, I wake up after 4.5 hours on the dot. Some nights I'll drop down to three hours and just set an alarm. Outside of a handful of times I've been sick, I haven't slept more than 4.5 hours in a night in almost 20 years and even as a kid and teenager I was getting 6 hours a night. Some people just naturally don't need that much sleep. I think it's genetic too. My mother only sleeps 4.5 a night and two of my sons sleeps 6.
>>
>>77143411
Correct.
The catch is that you still need to sleep in, so that is quickly 7,5 with sleep in time.

Or the real catch: If sleep quality is poorer, then it escalates. And you need another 90 minutes.
Tense shoulders, sleep apnea, D3 poisoning, low glycine, restless legs, low magnesium, etc. Or sleeping when disturbed.
>>
>>77142422
you are a mentally retarded zoomer

Also enjoy dying prematurely because you are a retarded kid that doesnt sleep
>>
>>77140210
quality is most important. better to get a single hour of quality sleep vs eight hours of tossing
>>
>>77140210
Your body starts releasing growth hormone at about hour 5-6. So you're missing out on 2-4 hours of gainz if you only get 6 hours of sleep.
>>
>>77140232
>they were fine
I don't think they were fine.
>>
Yeah, get an extra month and then die 10 years earlier.

Dont listen to this guy, he was involved in JFKs death and even married his wife after his assassination. Truly awful human
>>
>>77140232
Those men were fucked for the rest of their lives by that experience and had Krauts or gooks looking down the sights of their rifles on the other end of the valley trying to turn their heads inside out.

They suffered, anon, they did not choose to suffer, they were thrown into a meat grinder to accomplish impossible tasks without regard to their chances of survival, and pushed themselves to the human limit to survive. You are a fucking office worker with a full belly and warm clothes struggling to make rent. The difference is in the details and pretending that things were just peachy because they were placed in extreme circumstances is flippant faggotry at best.

depends on how much physical activity you're doing mostly. if you aren't doing much you can get by on fewer hours. sleep quality is also very important and you need to avoid too much stress during the day.

taking magnesium glysinate is a bit of a cheat code
>>
Anecdotally when I get less than 6 hours for a few nights in a row, I feel like shit and my workouts are less intense.
>>
>>77140210
lack of sleep shortens your telomeres, the caps at the end of your dna. It's one of the most important things you can do for your health and longevity. Sleeplessness is usually caused by mental weakness of some kind combined with too much caffeine. It's only halfway broken down in 5 hours. It takes 25 hours to totally break it down. You are a slave to a pesticide most of the time, and it also has a shit ton of banned synthetic pesticides because its grown in brown people bumfuck countries.
>>
>>77140308
>stop eating 3 hours before bed time
creepy billionaire longevity nerd stops eating at 11am or 12 noon. The earlier the better for sleep quality. I've been doing 5pm and its going great. This is how I used to eat for years growing up, its only when I moved to US that I picked up bad habits along with reflux, gastritis, weight gain and sadness

We are the only animals who have this conversation. We only have this conversation because we invented clocks, and factories, artificial light and screens. On top of that, modern humans have underdeveloped jaws and narrow airways, and that fucks up sleep quality. If you're a fat fuck that fucks up sleep quality even more. And most modern houses/apartments have tremendous amount of mold and dust and people don't get enough fresh air, and also people have tons of allergies now.

I promise you, if you had unlimited free time (no job), but were also denied access to screens and artificial light, and you also slept in a room with an open window, and you had the personal conviction to ignore all social pressures to "be somewhere" at a certain time, you would literally get the perfect amount of sleep 100% of the time.

The question of "what's the perfect amount of sleep?" would then appear to you for what it is: ironclad evidence of humanity's brutal and inescapable enslavement by the industrial-technological complex.

You should think about this when the alarm clock rips you from your slumber. That sound is the sound of slavery
