What are /fit/'s thoughts on rowing machines?

Good/Gimick/waste of space?
>>
i'd rather swim laps thanks
>>

I've found it's good for clients that have bad knees and aren't ready for full rom in their legs to do some form of cardio and get their heart rates above 70% max output. When we lack the ability to do the most optimal exercise, we must optimize the things we CAN do.
>>
>>77143012
Is it true it builds a nice back?
I'm thinking about getting one because I'm tired of doing prehab exercises constantly for my knee which can hurt during runs if my form isn't pristine perfect. Sounds like a good form of cardio.
>>
>>77143012
I've been getting back into cardio and I love these. Set the resisrance high and bang out 5km usually in 25ish minutes. My lower back pain is almost entirely gone, I've noticed gains in the back as well. Gets the heart rate up, gets a good sweat going before I lift. And the best part is no one is ever on them because young people hate cardio and old people just walk on the treadmill.

I'm a fan of them and have a Concept2 at home. My calves are always fucked so if they are hurting and I can't run or if it's too hot outside, it's a great option for low-impact cardio. I wouldn't say it will really blow up your back in size or anything, but assuming you learn proper rowing form it can improve your posture for sure.
>Pic related, my mediocre 5k time
>>
>>77143012
Better zone 3 cardio than running because it won't fuck up your joints. I mostly just do LISS and sprinting for cardio these days and don't care about anything in the middle but rowing has got to be up there with swimming for the best.
Good for full body functionality (weirdly enough makes using a shovel very easy), its use for building the back is kind of overstated, but it is really good at unfucking your posture.
>>
>>77143012
Highly underrated. Great for your abs if you lean further back on the finish.

>>77143056
>Is it true it builds a nice back?
Not really. If you feel this movement in your back you're probably doing something wrong. Back muscles do get engaged just not very much. It's more your core and quads.
>>
>>77143525
>core
>not your back
Hey anon, what do you think constitutes the "core" of the human body? Do (You) genuinely believe it does not* include the back?
>>
Great low-impact form of cardio. Also uses the whole body so spreads the impact across all the joints.

Shut the fuck up retard. Go work your core that totally doesnt include your back.
>>
>>77143012
why do threads about this machine and using this machine always instantly devolve into a massive shitfight. This machine and its use causes more seething and malding than threads about hand to hand combat. every fucking time
>>
>>77144254
No one is fighting. One retard said your core doesn't include your back and he was appropriately called retarded. Most other replies admit rowing is based.
>>
>>77144286
And then one nigger went
>um akshually your core DOES include your back
And he got called a dumb nigger because he's a dumb fucking nigger ape who thinks his core is his ENTIRE FUCKING BACK BECAUSE HES A DUMB FUCKING NIGGER
>>
>>77144348
That was me because I was right. Your core does include your back. You're thinking of abs, which is the front of your core. Your core is the core of your body. The front and back. Feel free to say more things that are wrong. They'll be wrong but you have a right to be wrong, that's your God given right and no one can take that from (You).

Too bad. Bouldering threads got pretty good over the years, but their main general is on /sx. Cyclists go to /n, runners have a normal general here, so it'd be nice to have a civilized thread for other cardio as well every once in a while, but they die pretty fast. I guess there's not enough people into them.

But with that said:
>>77143012
I think I'll try one out at the gym to see whether I like it or not. Sounds like a good cardio alternative when the weather is crap.
Anything to look out for for beginners?
>>
>>77144415
You're so mad.
>>
>>77145345
On the stroke, don't start pulling with your arms until your legs are locked out. Conversely, on the return lock out your arms first and only then fold your legs.
>>
>>77144385
>>77144415
Legs 50%
Abs 30%
Back 10%
Arms 10%
You're both gay. Simple as.
>>
Row machine is my go to cardio. That being said I would not buy one for your home
>>
>>77143012
I've been doing 10k a day for about a month now and I'm really liking it. I have high risk knees (very flat feet) so this has been a god send.

What are these percentages even supposed to mean? I'm calling the other retard a retard because he thinks your core doesn't include your back. What point are you trying to make?
>>
are the ones that fold down also fully functional? i'm looking to get one for my home but a bit tight on space
>>

it's based. best for prolonged cardio, best for explosive short bursts, and best associated sport once you git gud
can't be a waste of space, you just tilt it upright in the corner or separate it into the 2 pieces if you care about the looks

you retarded or just oding on sophistry so you don't feel like you lost a (meaningless) argument

I didn't lose. Your core includes your back. I'm correct. Cry about it
>>
>>77143012
Easiest way to spam 600 kcal burn sessions after weights or inbetween blocks of your day since you only need like 30 mins. Great investment for the home gym. Kinda annoying you have to lube the rail every so often and that its so boring since you cant play vidya with your hands other than that no complaints. Ive rowed almost everyday for the past 4 months and Ive lost 26 pounds.
>>
>>77143012
I bought one during the pandemic, and I have used it 4-5 days a week since. Lost a lot of weight, and now I'm hot and have a lot of energy.
>>
>>77150257
>yeah it's core day, I'm hitting traps and lats
>yeah it's back day, I'm doing crunches then calf raises (erm calves are ackshually on your back)
>yeah it's upper day, I'm hitting the library
you're being a fag
>>
>>77143012

I like using them, but I try to do as few seated exercises as possible when I'm in the gym, since life has me sitting down so much anyway.
>>

You clearly do not know how to row.
>>
>>77150516
This is called a "straw man argument". You're deliberately misrepresenting what i said to make yourself seem correct. You can fuck off now.
>>
>>77150516
>>77151051
Also
>inb4 "you said core is your back and now you're saying it's not your back and traps don't count"
I said core includes your back. I did not say your core is your entire back. Either way I'm right and you "people" get so upswt when you're wrong on the internet because it's your only human interaction. Stop being retarded if you don't want to be wrong so much.
>>
>>77151061
>>77151051
>You're deliberately misrepresenting what i said to make yourself seem correct
this is your whole raison d'etre. every word you wrote was a confession
someone asked if rowing built a nice back, and another replied saying it doesn't because it primarily works core and quads. both people are using a shorthand that everyone understands, including you. the guy who wants a nice back doesn't just want spinal erectors, the guy saying "core" doesn't need to specify that the obliques are barely touched
you only interjected to get into a reddit argument of no value to anyone but yourself, selfishly wasting other people's time (bystanders included) so you can tally up wins on a mental whiteboard

Here buddy. I'll save you having to scroll. Above is how the discussion started.
>back does NOT get engaged much
>your core does
This post implies your core does not include back muscles. I said it does, because I'm right. Que you retards going into a frenzy. All that matters is being right. Cry about it some more please, I want more (You)'s

Insane back gains. Unironically the best cardio machine to get better at sex. I miss having one at home and my gfs gym doesnt have one. I maxxed the ones at my last gym tho.
