You don't need lots of glucose to lift weights specifically, but:

Glucose
>activates mtor via insulin
>preferred precursor for aminoacid synthesis vs fat
>upregulates metabolism
>spares dietary and muscle protein
>probably also speeds up muscle building compared to fat but not sure about that specifically

In the context of fat loss, as in OP, you already got excess fat in your body, so you're better off focusing on getting energy from glucose (starch obv), not fat. 500g carb are way better than same amount of kcal from fat.
