Advice for new runners:- Build up speed and mileage SLOOOOOWLY (start with 15 minutes, increase mileage at most 10% per week);- It will feel like you're going slow, you are; don't worry about setting good times for a couple of months;- If you start to feel pain anywhere, stop and rest;- Don't try to copy what pros are doing. Do what feels natural; and- Once you can comfortably roon 6 miles/10km, start thinking about a goal in terms of race distance and time, and look for a training plan for that goal (see below for suggested plans).>Couch to 5k/Bridge to 10k Guideshttps://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/running-and-aerobic-exercises/get-running-with-couch-to-5k/https://i.imgur.com/ef98R.png(embed)https://i.imgur.com/qNJIy.png(embed)>I want to run a fast 5k, 10k, half-marathon, or marathonhttps://www.runningfastr.com/https://www.halhigdon.com/cock and ball torturehttps://sites.google.com/view/sub-threshold/home>I want to stretchhttps://www.runnersworld.com/uk/training/beginners/a32172701/how-to-stretch-post-run/>Performance calculatorshttps://runbundle.com/tools/age-grading-calculatorhttps://vdoto2.com/calculator/https://runrepeat.com/how-do-you-masure-up-the-runners-percentile-calculatorhttps://lactrace.com/norwegian-singles

Getting back into running as a secondary cardio after a few years and wanted to give some perspective for anyone who thinks running is a pain or feels impossible due to weight.Cross train cardio, total cardio volume > running volume. It increases full body metabolic efficiency, individual muscle groups increase their own transport passages for energy uses independently of each other. So swimming with arms, can still help you mitigate the energy usage of the gentle swing of your arms during running. biking glutes/quads (secondaries all other legs).IDK take it or leave it, but it allows you to have rest days from running if it is a pain, without hurting your running by taking a rest day.I seem to always be able to get to competitive running faster than most running programs by a few weeks doing this.Instead of needing to do the second/third month revamp of ability commonly found in running programs. Also if going for high volume, diversified cardio has almost none of the risk of increased cortisol commonly found in studies for intense volume cardio. good luck

>>77168779>The people behind herAre these people with serious medical conditions?
>>77173168If you have just started running then going straight into interval training is going to do a number on your joints and you will need time to recover. Also, 40 mins is a lot straight off, you need to build up to it.Even if you do other cardio I would do some steady running (not hard) just as a conditioner for your legs. Interval training sessions need to be spaced to allow you to recover and ideally improve (over compensate).

Started running recently and ran my first 5k today. Then I took a 15 minute break and did it a second time, with a total of 14 km ran with 1 km of walking. I get it now. It feels very addictingI have a question: is there any good way to get around the slight friction that happens inside the shoes that causes heat to build up and then moisture? I have to balance not tying my shoes too tight (very wide feet, leading to cramps) and not having them too loose (too much movement makes my feet heat up, sweat and blister). I have tried running socks and they have helped a bit, and also retying my shoes in various strange ways to alleviate the cramps I would get in my midfoot but any other tips are appreciated. I toe strike, if that changes anything

Im doing my first marathon in May. A few days afterwards I wanted to try to do 100k steps in a single day. Is that likely to be viable so soon after a marathon?
I need to run 1.5 Miles in 12:29. I’m at 1.3 in 12:29 i’m so fucking close bros
I'm 250lbs on 6'4 frame, im rooning for a few years now. Roughly every 2-3 days. I sometimes notice my knee or ankles allthough its not that bad. Im not really increasing my pace and my distance not at all as im running mostly for fun (8km in about 45 min). Am i slowly fucking my shit up ot should i be fine in lets say 10 years from now? Long weekend roon. Couple little blisters that will be annoying but whatever.

Has anyone here actually experienced a runner's high?I've been hearing about it all my life but I'm starting to believe it's not a real thing. I've literally ran till I collapsed on the ground just to try feel it and it's never happened. I don't believe in it anymore. It's as real as the queen of England.
>>77178663When I was like 12 years old or something, we had a walk run for our school. At the time I only did hockey so I walked a large part of it. But I distinctly remember at the finish feeling like I could run the whole thing back again, and after like 30 minutes I felt like absolute garbage. I didn't get another runners high until I started running again just a few years ago, and I only get it once and a blue moon.

>>77179592What would you call "configured right"? Like, check where you can keep a conversation, etc? Have a doctor or some other tests to measure?
>>77178663Sometimes I zone out and don't notice any pain or exhaustion, but it's not really a high.Other times running just feels really fun and easy, usually when I slow down slightly or after stopping for a few seconds. The only time it feels like an actual high is when I lie down in a grass field right after a long run. The beauty of the world around me becomes overwhelming, all my worries leave me and I feel grateful to be alive for about 3 minutes.
>>77179711Google how to set it up through lactate threshold (best) or HRR (heart rate reserve).Basically you want to do a lactate threshold test through a test on your watch or you can do a manual test and just look at your average HR throughout it. Once you find your LTHR (lactate threshold heart rate) set your zones based on that:Zone 1 : Less than 85% of LTHR.Zone 2 : 85% – 89% of LTHR.Zone 3 : 90% – 94% of LTHR.Zone 4 : 95% – 99% of LTHR.Zone 5 : Above 100% of LTHRalso if you are still building your base you will go above zone 2 every once in awhile, zone 2 matters more when you are running 6/7 days a week, 50+ miles a week, threshold runs multiple times a week, etc.

Post half marathon I’ve been doing strength training in addition to boxing.I’ve been trying to keep my distance runs so I’ve been running 15k easy. However I’ve started having “thump” and dull pain sensation in my hamstrings. During my peak mileage for the half marathon I was running about 30-35 miles a week, but now I had to cut my runs short. The only difference is that I’ve started strength trainingRDL’sBulgarian split squatsGoblet squatsThe quad and ham machines Is the extra strength training causing aggravation in my hamstring? To be specific the pain is located close to the glutes and wraps around the groin. It doesn’t really bother me at all but I know it can become turbo injury if I overtrain. For recovery, I plan on stopping distance running for a week or so and going lower on the weights. I will probably just hit the jump rope for cardio until it feels better.Does anyone else have experience with dealing with hamstring nonsense?
