How do I increase my punching power?
Im not talking about technique (rotating the whole body, punching 'through the head', etc), are there any actual exercises or muscles that can improve the raw strenght of my punches, mainly the cross?

I left hook is pretty strong but my cross is weak af in comparison.
>>
Calf raises
>>
>>77171804
If a cross is weak, it's because of technique. You're fooling yourself otherwise.

Punching power can be moderately increased by doing meme shit like pushing that arm against a concrete wall like a stance hold.
>>
>>77171804
Hammer grip front raises, narrow grip presses, heavy triceps. I'm working on making the front hand heavier and am trying to get my shoulders and arms up because with my fighting style I'm light on the front foot so I am going more for something heavy with range that I can use after a kick or stepping in deep.
>>
>>77171804
>the most dominant champion in the history of boxing did the opposite of everything you learn in "good" boxing
Is boxing technique a meme?

But seriously, look at how Marciano did it. He has a super weird punching technique. His shadow boxing looks like he's trying to escape from a straight jacket. Still, hardest puncher of all time, even though he was only 185 lbs. Just watch his fight vs Archie Moore, who according to most is the hardest puncher of all time.
>>
>>77171804
>cross
Uh try some flat back wide grip bench and heavy abs+obliques. It really helps add to the kinetic chain and add extra oomph to the end of the movement.
>>
>>77171804
Bench, ohp or shoulder press, medicine ball throws against the wall, floor, twist variations
>>
>>77171804
Practice (muscle memory and technique are most of the power)
Focus on back, sides and arm muscles, also grip if gloveless
>>
Why is punching strength so incredibly genetic?
Back when I went to boxing classes there was a new dude who would put incredible punches even with a very average build, people would turn their heads because of the massive noise his punches did... it was kinda crazy ngl
>>
>>77171804
Theoretically if your technique and speed are really maxed out then the only way to increase the total force is gain total mass (without losing speed or impairing technique)

F = MA

With technique being set and acceleration stable the only way to increase force is the mass behind the strike.....ofc for almost noone (bar actual top pros) is your technique and speed maxed out.
>>
>>77171804
Force = mass x acceration
Check the size of the hands of Mike Tyson.
Bigger hands more power.
More speed more power.
Fuck even being fat and now how to throw punches you will rekt everyone.
There is no magic meme excersice or something like that.
>>
>>77171804
... Are you fucking retarded? Literally any upperbody pushing motion. Contralteral DB press would be my pick for best. But then you need to mix in some push up iso holds. There are powelifting moves you could do but fighters should always favor the safest means of achieving a performance outcome, so, lots of push-ups with isometric holds at various angles. Isometrics have been shown to potentially improve power as much as traditional training cause isometrics is fucking great at improving tendon stiffness.
>>
>>77171804
Work on posterior chain, punching power is generated bottom to top. Work on technique turning the foot, rotating the hips, clenching fist just before full arm extension.
>>
>>77172016
>not talking about technique
Dipshits literally not reading past the subject. Ffs, no wonder this place sucks. 4chan was always fucked up but atleast we used to be literate.
>>
Punching is a unilateral explosive movement in the transverse plane. You need explosive rotational exercises. Medicine ball slams, landmine presses, sledgehammer tire type stuff, etc.
Don't listen to retards telling you to do pushing based strength exercises, or even worse isometrics, like the retarded tripfaggot above me.
>>
Punch using the oxygen in your muscles
>>
>>77171836
His style wouldn't fly nowadays. Closest guy I can think of who resembles Marciano today is Subriel Matias. Plodding footwork, relying on his chin and throwing punches in a non traditional style. And Matias is good but very limited and has been beaten before. He just got TKO'd for the first time recently and lost his belt.
Rocky's style was good for his day but throw him in there with Usyk, for example, and he would get outboxed handily.
>>
>>77172064
Who asked?

Usyk can't handle a swarmer, nevermind a swarmer with the punching power of Rocky. If Louis couldn't outbox Rocky, Usyk with his lack of power is dead meat. You sound like the experts at the start of Rocky's career, really.
>>
>>77171804
If you want punch power, get strong enough for good form with your arms/shoulders and then core/leg maxx
All your real power comes from pushing into/through your target via your legs/calves
>>
>>77171978
i think its actually probably less genetic than you think. A lot of it has to do with muscle memory and shit. Boys will naturally always start throwing rocks by instinct and that play is training you to throw punches with power as well. Only nowadays kids all grew up on computers and its only a small percentage who were just out in the world throwing rocks and sticks at eachother. Back in my day almost every boy grew up like that and you could assume every non faggot could at least throw a decent punch.

The answer is kettlebell snatch. You can do medicine ball throws against a wall too but snatch is best.

Anyone who hasnt mentioned this doesn;t know what they're talking about.

Why is all shounen so fucking boring? There's no point to a story, no point to conflict, if you know the main character will win every time

If you didn't appreciate ippos story then idk man you might be retarded. I think your brain is fried from the usual over the top shonen faggotry and now you cant appreciate a story with basic ass consequences. Ippo loses multiple times if you look beyond the ring and even then, yes, eventually he loses and gets all fucked up like Ali and the later end is talking about everything he has lost far as his health but gained in his friends and community.

A study found that for pro boxers, most of the power of their power punches came from the legs
>aha, so I should squat for stronger punches!
WRONG
They also found that for amateur boxers, most of their power came from UPPER BODY
Because their technique isn't as good
And you aren't a pro, so if you want to improve your punch power now (not in ten years when your technique is better), do upper body exercises
Having said all that, I would recommend push press for the legs->hips->shoulders->arms chain, medicine ball throws, and >>77173403 snatch is a good shout
Thomas Inch (old timey boxer) once recommended heavy dumbbell swings (really more of a snatch) and heavy dumbbell push press for boxers, that was like a hundred years ago and it's still good advice today

>Im not talking about technique (rotating the whole body, punching 'through the head', etc), are there any actual exercises or muscles that can improve the raw strenght of my punches, mainly the cross?

No exercise you can do can match the power output from technique.

Imagine jumping as high as you can, and stomping the ground as hard as you can with all the might in your body. If you've ever done something like this in an apartment building, you can make the floor/ground shake, even as a kid.

A proper punch is basically doing that, but not jumping, or landing, and all that force going to your arm. Your first just happens to be on the very end of it making contact.

98% of a punch is learning how to control your body, generate force from your legs, rotate your core, extend your arm without losing balance, without learning forward and losing the tension generated by your legs, without losing balance afterward and opening yourself to attack.

If you were at a stage where your punching technique was so good you actually WOULD have to do specific weight exercises to improve your output, you wouldn't be asking here how to do it, because at that point you already know from experience what is lacking.

>>77171804
First increase maximum strength without gaining weight, the stronger you are the more potential for power you have.
Once you developed max strength then you do rfd exercise where you use 60-90% of your 1rm and move the weight as fast as possible, you can do any standard exercise as fast as possible, oly lifts or weighted plyometrics.
Finally plyometrics focus on short ground contact plyos and exploding as high as possible.
This is pretty much all you need to know, you can either do phases where you focus on one quality at the time in the order i wrote them or do any split you like and doing first a plyo, then a rfd exercise and finishing with strength lift, do low volume with long rests to prioritize maximum output.
The exercise selection doesn't matter that much as long as it fits the purpose of the quality you are trying to improve, what matters in strength is moving more weight, what matters in power is moving the weight faster and what matters in speed are plyometrics with short ground contact and high output.
>>
>>77171999
What a sorry waste of digits
>>
>>77171978
>Why is punching strength so incredibly genetic?
Because boxing coaches are excellent at conditioning for boxing but complete fucking retards at strength training and athletic development so to hit hard in boxing you kinda need to be a genetic freak to begin with which feeds the confirmation vias and let's them think they don't need to learn anything more.
Fortunately in the last couple decades most fighters started adding strength coaches for their teams but even then most of them are still retarded doing meme shit and hyperfocusing on le functional strength memes and still ignore them fundamentals of athletic development.
If you want to hit hard as fuck, train your punches and technique obviously but do your strength and explosive training like football players.
>>
>>77171804
Martial artists in antiquity, like Greek pankrationists, used to train by digging with a pickax every single day, in order to develop the serratus and explosive power. You could also look into heavy pullover variants, like hanging or cross bench pullovers.
>>
>>77175234
It's not shonen dipshit its supotsu. You litterally can't make an accurate & valid comparison between ippo and any shonen shit.
>>
>>77171804
Pushups for intensity
squats with a slight split. Mike tyson did hundreds a day
Woodchoppers as well, the exercise or the literal task. George Foreman owes his power to chopping wood for hours at a time
>>
>>77171804
Improve your punching technique.
Improve your torso strenght.
But one of the harshest things to realize is that your punching power is limited by your hands size. The more they weight, the harder you can punch.
If you have tiny hands you will never archive real destructive power. Just like a stick alone will never surpass a hammer.
>>
>>77171804
If you get huge but don't look gay as hell looking like some buttcheek dude who would slip trying to go into a sprint because he's retarded
>>
>>77171804
Train like a thrower. Javelin especially.
>>
>>77177361
Your hand get bigger from punching with more force, not the other way around. Wolff's Law, your bones get thicker when subjected to trauma, and hitting a heavy bag increasingly harder is just that.
>>
>>77171804
>how do i increase my punching power
>NO NOT ROTATING MY BODY the largest generator of punching power period

There is no amount of muscle gain you can have in the hands alone that outpaces hip generation. It's simple mechanical advantage.
I am reminded of that video of the black guy sucker punching turbo neck outside the gas station and turbo neck lays him on the ground and even when sitting ontop of him punching down into his face he still has that smallest twist of the body going into it.
It's a natural reaction and removing that reaction would only weaken your punches.

I mean it's anecdotal, but even my own experience punching aluminum doors for years, I have never been able to generate even close to the force as the slight roll of the hips into the punch.

Anyone remember the discovery/history show human weapon? And tgere was another that either copied this formula or other way around

>>77177405
Kinetic energy
>>
>>77177405
Why do you get so lost into the details, you dumb retard?

Dont you realize that if a specific movement is what gives punches its power, then by training (either the strength, explosivity, 'snap', whatever you want to call it) the muscles involved in that very movement, it will lead to an increase in muscle power?
>>
>>77177422
>calls others retard
>JUST KEEP TRAINING MUSCLES THAT WILL RESULT IN LESS ENERGY GENERATED THAN A SIMPLE TWIST OF THE HIPS

Why would I waste years of my life slightly increasing my punch, by only the tiniest fraction. When the world record holders for punching strength have scientifically proven through multiple decades worth of documentation that strengthening your ability to move energy through your body with a twist of the hips, will always outpace anything you would ever gain from muscles alone.
I hate to to shit on your whole

>>

>>
>>77177442
Yeah that's why I made fun of OP, he is a fucking retard and should kill himself.
All punch force is generated from the hips.
>>
Rotational core exercises are a meme for punching power, your core needs to be stable not rotate, hip rotation not only is caused by the legs, making legs more important for power, but also the hips aren't the core.
You push from your rear leg to twist your hips, your core is tense so your shoulders follow your hips, your rear shoulder rotates to be in front of your lead shoulder and your arm extends into the punch.
>>
>>77176956
This like Wing Chun I studied for four years.
Yes lots of wing-ving-tsing Chun schools and independent teacher practitioners and lots of contradictory lore.
But in what I was taught.
Straight punch. Fist mainly vertical but can fire from any angle.
The strike surface is the bottom three knuckles, small knuckle to middle knuckle.
Just boom boom boom boom Anywhere on targets middle line.
Always reminded me of old WW2 footage of bomber aircraft dumping all that ordinance on target.
>>
surprised that no one mentioned strengthening the back. you're all so obsessed with lower body rotation that you forget the very last bit of rotation before landing the punch and having a developed back will help you finish the rotation faster
>>
>>77178828
because the back like the abs is literally involved in hip rotation. no need for absurd redundancy.
If you've ever done single armed rows or serratus anterior punches you're working out all the muscles you need

I like one armed anterior planks and behind the body reaches for activation.
>>
>>77171804
Grip strength. If you clech your fist really really hard the bones will be more compacted and the punch will be denser.
>>
My advice is just to avoidniggersmax so you don't end up in stupid situations that can get you in fucking jail

>t. extremely dumb lucky not to be currently incarcerated guy
>>
>>77171804
there is no one body part that, if trained or not, will allow you to punch harder. you see how literally everyone in this thread, plus every fighter and trainer youve ever met tells you to work out your forearms/triceps/shoulders/traps/chest/upper back/abs/mid back/obliques/lower back/groin/quads/calves/inner thigh/outer thigh or hit a fucking tire with a hammer? its not about improving one single thing, its about identifying what part of your """kinetic chain"""" is weak and working on fixing it. if your legs are weak compared to the rest of your body, theres the problem. if your shoulders are lacking there it is.

btw power comes from the shoulders
>>
the best thing you can do is go online and ask for advice from people that dont train or know anything at all. instead of asking people in your gym, or gee whiz, i dont know, maybe your coaches?
