Anyone here swim?

I've recently started swimming again, it's a much more enjoyable way to get cardio done than running. Currently doing 1x100m breast stroke, 2x100m freestyle, repeated 4 times. will increase next week. Looking at getting to 2km in 100m sets, then trying to increase the distance between breaks.

Are there any proper beginner guides to swimming? everything seems targeted towards intermediates or competitive swimmers

what kinda dumb cunt drops his jeans to his knees then just starts undoing his shirt with half his pants down, finish lower or upper then start the other, retarded faggot

I do this all the time when I'm with faggy boys that suck. Maybe you're just a straggot

suffocating isn't cardio, walking is, in pace in good posture with diaphragmatic breathing for between 15 to 40 minutes
when i did 1,5km in open waters (for which i have been training for half a year once a week - i couldn't swim for shit) i did it on me back, i think i was the only one doing backstroke, just checked direction every now and then and it turned out to be boring in the end, and i was so scared, it was the first and last time i ever swam that far, there was nothing against doing it on back and i was unbelievably strong in it, we had a lil competition in the end of swimming class at uni where we "learned" all 4 styles - it was utter fucking garbage class
>do just legs of this x times
>do just arms of this x times
>there u know the style
that's why i was trying to train for that swim, it was a lake

50 meters of backstroke, 2 lenghts, sprint - i beat everybody, remember vividly biathlonist came to congratulate me, he was second, he couldn't believe he was beaten by natural xD

oh and the system was setup so that u already have to know how to swim before you entered "learning swimming" course, that 1,5k open waters swim was before the learn all 4 styles class - fucking assholes, but i have switched it up, learned nothing in the class and swam it anyways using raw powah and the fact that u can BREATHE FREELY on your back

swimming is VERY BAD for shoulders if you lift any kind of weights, because u're stiff as a brick, u're damaged in pecs u're damaged in traps, u have limited mobility and u compensate wrecking your shoulders
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WN0eGhrfEs0
this is the answer, never learned it, backstroke was good and freestyle i hacked with rotating torso a lot, that's how i survived benching twice body weight asked to swim 1,5K

Someone who swims I guess

Swimming isn't inherently gay OP, so don't try to make it that way.

Stupid retard, learn to swim. If you're shoulders "hurt" you are doing it wrong. Swimming is god-tier cardio, superior to running, biking, or whatever plebbit-tier shit lazybones come up with because they can't take a little hard work in the pool.

Swimming is the most autistic fitness activity, how is it not popular here?

really? I haven't gotten into any stats autism but I always figured people see it as niche but normal cardio unless the 'swimmer' stereotype is this one dude I saw trying to tapdance in the middle of the pool in between sprints

Autists LOVE swimming. It's a consistent environment, the sensation of swimming, they go from clumsy on land to a fish in the water.

Very little material is touching your body, everything is very clean with the chlorine, and there is almost no social interaction at all.

100% an autistic exercise. Runners chat all the time, cyclists spend half the day at cafes, weightlifters perve on each other between sets, but swimmers hang out mostly naked and never interact.

i dont swim, but i officiate the sport of water polo. if you guys are good swimmers and strong, water polo is quite an amazing sport. its probably one of the coolest sports there is. its too bad its not more popular in the usa, outside of the top california colleges where all the eastern europeans come to play

i'm only doing 1200m right now, i seem to average around 2min per 100m, is that... ok?

2-min per 100m is pretty good.

Most of this board is subhuman thirdies living in contaminated hellholes, or rural retards who have never seen a body of water in their life

should i do... more 100's or build up 150's?

I'm only doing this for fitness, not competing, but in the future i hope to run a swimming club for the school i work at
>>
Competitive swimmer here from age 6 all through HS and some college. Don't do distance for the sake of distance. That's stupid.

Also, doing breaststroke other than warming up or cooling down with it is also stupid unless your are a competitive swimmer who does breaststroke. You are doing it for fitness or recreation.

Not the other anon, but solid way to build endurance and improve cardio in swimming is by using a pyramid set. Start at 25m and gradually increase your distance. 25, 50, 75, 100, 200, then work your way back down, 100, 75, 50, 25. Take about 20–30 seconds of rest between each interval, 45 if necessary. Don’t fixate on the downtown in between each set, that will improve the more your endurance builds. This will help you build distance progressively without burning out too early, and it’ll still challenging your aerobic capacity. Jumping straight into longer distances like 200m and risking fatigue could compromise the rest of your workout, so the pyramid allows you to ease into it and maintain better consistency. T. What this anon said. And unless you are competing or trying to swim the channel, going for distance will lead to bad habits in your form as you fatigue. Get your conditioning up first with pyramids, then work on your anaerobic side. Once you have that, you can mix them.

Also dont underestimate kickboards. And dont wear swim trunks, it makes swimming 100x harder than it should be, unless you are going for that, but you arent because you arent competing

OP here, i've been wearing some Decathlon shorts, they are pretty tight and flexable, with an inbuilt brief

When i'm thinner i'm going to wear speedos. I'm an autistic adult, and ristrictive clothes like Jammers makes me have panic attacks. Maybe more modern ones would be ok, the ones i wore in the 2000's were just weird and uncomfortable

wearing these now

the material is wafer thin and flexable, inbuilt brief keeps my large penis in place

maybe these?

i just wear black speedos. 'endurance' i think they are.
>>
>>77175526
You could also try a square leg speedo, it’s a nice middle ground between jammers and briefs, and if eventually you want to add resistance to your sets, a drag suit can help with that. Like the other anon said, a kickboard is useful for building leg strength and improving rhythm, while investing in a pull buoy shifts the focus to your upper body and stroke mechanics. Just remember, swimming is largely about technique and being able to effectively “hold” the water matters a lot more than raw strength or speed. It’s also a good idea to incorporate drills into your workouts, especially ones that reinforce consistent tempo and continuous stroke timing. You want to avoid developing pauses or inefficient timing in your stroke. (Some call this catch-up), and it can work but it’s more of an advanced style once you have the other mechanics down and you’ve built a natural feel for the water over time

damn you're absolutely right. i hate sweating and other people, plus the mental break of nomusic and near-zero noises other than water sloshing against my ears.
>>
how accurate is something like the apple watch at tracking stats? It seems to be fairly consistent in reading my laps laps/distance/calories (I always swim ~30 minutes) but I'm curious how skewed it is, especially since it'll randomly say i'm doing breast stroke for a lap instead of freestyle. It's not that big of a deal, but just curious how well it's measuring my calories.

>And dont wear swim trunks
i have long hair and wear board shorts that are falling off me because i lost weight lol.
