how do you guys do pullups while being overweight, i can barely do 7 or 8 per set (195lbs 5'10)
dips i can do 12-13

>i can barely do 7 or 8 per set
that's not a bad number at all, just keep doing them.
Consider following this simple program if you want to increase your reps relatively quickly:

thanks man i definitely wanna improve asap
>>
I cannot do step 2. I can't do it, at all. I'm thinking of getting myself a stepladder so I can get into step 4. position and do negatives. Jumping feels like shit too, my arms take over immediately.

you should probably start with jumping jacks till you get your body flowing
>>
>>77173715
Try going down to a deadhang with every rep also going slow. That’s the only way I do them.
>>
If you can do 8 in a set, it's probably time to consider progressively overloading them with a chain belt
>>
>>77173715
>how to pullups
>i can 8
looks like you can do pullups, chap
>>
>>77174251
Nah. It's better to grind for reps on pull ups. Those are all slow twitch.
>>

Art of Manliness is past it's prime and he shouldn't be trusted on any specialist shit. More of a meme from the days when all basics were suppressed for being toxic.

Legs should be straight if you have the room for it, folding is literally for low bars. Need to go higher than that.

Anyway, I do 6-8 a 235. Way too fat, wonder what going down to 200 would do for me.

How? I have just been doing them for literally all my life, since I was like 6 year old.

Right, negatives or holds.

>>77174254
This.
>>
when I was a dyel I started on the assisted machine
I hated it though so that made me put effort into pullups & chins & dips
>>
>>77173821
>I cannot do step 2
try band assisted ones
band supports the most at the bottom so take a light one, like 10kg, for starters
>>
>>77174413
>Legs should be straight if you have the room for it
It makes exactly zero difference outside of balance. You are retarded and should shut the fuck up.
>>
>>77174599
If you cross your ankles or bend your knees like a girl, it doesn't count.
>>
>>77174599
It absolutely does make a difference. If you can hold your legs straight and stiffen your midline you will direct more power to your back and be able to pull more efficiently. Your body isn't not a disconnected set of distinct muscles, it's all connected via fascia. When you bend your knees you disrupt the system and end up relying more on your arms than your back.
>>
>>77174756
>isn't not
serves me right for not proofreading
>>
>crossing your feet
that's absolutely fucktard behavior and terrible advice. should only ever do that when bar is too low and can't keep legs straight. you can do that in the meantime while you look for a higher bar, but it changes your point of gravity and hinders form
>>

i'm a DYEL in month 2 of lifting and i'm currently at
>5 chin-ups
>4 neutral grip
>2 pull-ups
i wasn't able to do a single pull-up when i started. this contributes nothing to the thread, i just felt like sharing.
>>
>>77174847
keep it up
as long as you are improving, you are good in my book.
>>
>>77173715
>live in a town with no outdoor public pullup bars

Just seems retarded, they're building padel / pickle ball courts now but no outdoor exercise stuff that every other town or city seems to have
>>
>>77175850
you can have a pull up bar at home, you know?
>>
>>77175895
it's not his home
>>
i'm overweight with a belly but I can do 17 straight arm pull ups
i used to be ripped 19bmi though
>>
do yall do pull ups/chin ups everyday? i think every other day it's good for me that i've never done them but i've been lifting for 2 years
>>
>>77175998
if you can do ANY exercise every day, then that means you do not go heavy enough
>>
>>77173715
Do negatives, use a band to assist until you're stronger, lose weight
>>
I'm 205 lbs @ 5'9 and can only do like 6 pullups or 10 neutral grips with my chin above bar. The final part of the pull when you raise your head over the bar is definitely the hardest part for me

you dont have to do this

The same way you improve at any lift: by doing it more often and refining your technique. What else did you think was the answer?
