adrenaline is pretty much the purest form of energy you can get

don't try to get used to it, don't try to "harden" yourself, don't try and of the fucking garbage ideas about cold showering and testosterone and whatever

you want the cold shock to happen, you DON'T want to be used to it. turn the shower on, brace yourself, step in, step out, brace yourself again, step in, wash yourself with the cold water, step out, wait again, step in and give yourself one last soak

the beautiful thing is that adrenaline is manufactured from dopamine, so releasing adrenaline early in the day will prompt your body to start making more of it, and because your nervous system doesn't want your dopamine to dip it will pre-emptively start making more of it. about 4-5 hours after the cold shower, you get a net gain of dopamine, your body will make slightly more of it than what is used to make the adrenaline, and the fact that dopamine gets manufactured increases activity in the dopamine system itself, meaning that the dopamine you already have gets used better.

Cold exposure releases adrenaline. Adrenaline is an endogenous stimulant. It works exactly the same way in males and females. This is just really basic physiology.

"Stress" is a very overused term. The human body has very different adaptive responses to a variety of long-term and short-term physical and/or mental stressors. "Stress", as in the damage caused to the nervous system, immune system and metabolism by long-term worry/rumination, anxiety, heightened fear responses, negative impact of bad posture on physiology, is something very different from transient nervous system responses to stimuli like high muscular power exertion, cold exposure, situations that require high-speed problem solving, etc.

They are both called "stress" in popular culture, but they are completely different things that, physiologically speaking, are very unrelated.
