Whenever I eat less calories I lose weight. Almost linear the the amount expected when I track the calories in a kilo of fat. I have a 7.7k deficit & there's 7700 calories in a kilo of fat, I lose 1kg per week.That's just one data point for you but it's my experience

Easy example is the carb + fat meal, you're literally asking your body to store that fat due to the insulin release from carbs and the down stream effects of that, namely nutrient partitioning. Pro bodybuilders on slin are relying on this effect to store glycogen+protein in cells. Fat + protein or either on its own, or carbs on their own won't have that effect.
