>Trying to do starting strenght
>Unable to do dips or chinups. Literally not strong enough
What do? Should I try another regimen or are there alts for those two exercises?
>>

>What do?
not this
>starting strenght
>>
>>77187335
What should I do instead?
>>
>>77187336
ask your brother, father, coach, and/or friends
>>
>>77187338
/fit/anons are my brothers
>>
Do negatives or find an assisted dip/pullup machine?
>>
>>77187348
>Do negatives
this
>>
>>77187333
This is SL not SS
>>
is this right? it's always been 3xF for dips and chins

you could do 3x10 weighted. Maybe read the BOOK???
>>
>>77187782
>>77187783
This is SS according to the pinned post
>>
>>77187787
rip doesnt advocate pendlay rows. Mehdi does.

rip wants cleans 3x5
>>
>>77187787
The pinned has a general beginner routine.
You have a specific problem, that's what the starting strength book is for.
Read the fucking book.
Also, ofc you can't do many chin ups after rows, I'd be surprised if you could.
>>
>>77187333
this only works for total beginners. so much diddylifting/squatting will kill your lower back once you start lifting actual weight.
>>
>>77187333
>Unable to do dips
Put a chair or something under you to rest your ankles/legs on. You can shift you weight from your arms to the legs as an assisted support.

I did this exact method when starting out because of my skeleton arms. Worked well for about 1-2 months then I could do body weight for low reps.
>>
>>77187336
I second the guy saying to not do starting strength or any of the power shitter routines.

Just do a push pull leg split or an upper lower leg split and continue your life. Don't go down that meme fat fuck path.
>>
>>77187782
It's a variation of the original SS template.
>>77187797
Not in the later editions of SS.
The middle eastern weakling Mehdi didn't advocate for 3 sets of 5 across.
>>
use the fucking assisted machine you noob
>>
>>77187336
What are your goals? Strength competition or just building muscle? SS is for the former, it's very technical and can fuck you up easily. If you just want muscle you don't ever have to do a squat or a deadlift in your life. I would also avoid the bench, so many noobs get stuck on the bench because it's a comfy exercise and easy to progress in, but then you neglect rows and other back exercises and just end up with rounded shoulders and tits.
>>
>>77187333
do partials or assisted. for chin-ups if there are rings a horizontal bar or trx you can do inverted rows with your feet on the ground you will look like \ and pull yourself into the bar. this is a good program to run for up to 9 months depending on how much you weigh. i'm assuming you are on the lighter side so it will probably be closer to 3 or 4 months.

>>77187833
please explain how doing dips, chin-ups, squat, bench, deadlift, ohp, or a pendlay row will make you fat.

notice how none of the people telling you to do something else have given you any specific advice for what to do. no actual exercises, when to do them, what weights to start at, what sets and reps to use, when to deload or switch exercises. at most they told you to go ask someone else. you have to watch out for shit advice like this.

>>77188027
the program has three different pulling and pushing exercises in it in multiple planes of motion. what is wrong with this?

what the fuck is going on? why can't someone do 6-8 basic exercises without 18 people telling them they are shit and they should do "something else" without telling them what they should be doing or why the exercises themselves are bad.
>>
>>77188062
SS is all technical compound exercises, it's an all-round approach which can easily overload the weaker muscles involved while barely working the larger ones. He should be doing isolation exercises, they're safer and more effective at building muscles (if that's his goal).
>>
dips are bad because they just are okay
squats are bad because I saw a fat guy recommending them once so that means they make you fat and also they will kill your knees somehow
deadlifts are bad because I saw a fat guy recommending them once so that means they make you fat and also this one guy at my gym threw their back out trying to pull 255 because they are so uncoordinated they can't do a simple hip hinge without hurting themself
bench press is bad because I know three guys that only benched and had rounded shoulders so that means if you bench you are going to get rounded shoulders okay
chin-ups are bad because they just are okay
pendlay rows are bad because I saw a fat guy recommending them once so that means they make you fat
overhead press is bad because the lean guy at the gym said to do seated dumbbell shoulder press instead

you have to do all the pushing exercises on one day and all the pulling exercises on one day and all the "leg exercises" on one day or you won't build any muscle because you just won't okay. maybe its just because its easier for my pea brain to remember.

I think I got them all. You have to watch out for explanations like this or you avoid doing perfectly fine exercises. You don't have to do them forever or only a 3x5 or 5x5.
>>
>>77187333
if your gym has an assisted pullup or dip machine use that. thats literally the best way to learn how to do them
>>
>>77187344
hell yeah
>>
>>77188062
>please explain how doing dips, chin-ups, squat, bench, deadlift, ohp, or a pendlay row will make you fat.
I'm not that anon but people started saying that Rippetoe said GOMAD was the way to get enough macronutrients to the point SS + GOMAD were pushed simultaneously and if you weren't doing GOMAD you weren't doing SS

Ofc drinking a gallon of milk per day is gonna make you fat, no beginner trains hard enough to burn all those extra calories
>>
>>77187333
Chinups are hard for untrained beginners especially if you have fat on you. You should do lat pulldowns for a little while at least to get the muscles used for chinups into shape (this could take a few months potentially) If you are fat it would help to lose some fat. At some point you can then try chinup negatives, though I find those really awkward, or even better see if your gym has a chinup assist machine where you have these knee pads that provide support

With dips it might be better to start off with pushups then progress to dips
>>
>>77187782
no, that is not SL. they're both shit, though.
>>
>>77187333
Retarded routine that will get you nowhere but to trannydom. You will look deformed.
>>
>>77187333
read the book you fucking retard
