When I’m doing OHP how straight do my hands need to be and how much does it matter? Is proper form mostly important for avoiding injuries or am I losing out on potential gains by lifting while bending my wrists?
>>
not sure what you mean by "hands straight" but I keep my hands just a bit past shoulder width and try to keep my elbows tucked/pointing forward don't flare them out

Wrist bend is inevitable on any press because the bar needs somewhere to actually rest. You can use wrist wraps to prevent excessive bending.

Wrists should only be bent enough to let the bar rest on the very heel of your palm, as little as possible without it rolling forward. The key thing is that the weight should be pressing straight down on the forearm, not your hand - that makes a level on your wrist. Think about gripping it hard.

You might lift a little more with bent wrists but they'll start hurting pretty quickly

How do people even injure their wrists?
I bench 3pl for reps and ohp a bit less than 2pl and never had any wrist issues
I just grip in a way that feels natural and convenient for me for all exercises

For OHP you should try the suicide grip. It's completely harmless if you do it in a powerrack with side safety bars

Not OP but I failed on bench and had accidentally put the safeties 1 notch too low so i tweaked my left wrist when i was pushing the weight toward my legs so the safeties could catch it. End range of forearm rotation resulted in discomfort and tightness going on 2 months now. It's almost fully healed but I havent been able to do any supinated curls, pronated pushdowns or free weight presses since. Shit sucks so much fucking ass.

Yeah that sucks. I always do my first bench warmup set with 1pl, not for actually warming up but just to test safeties positions and check for any shoulder pain.

When I OHP and especially when I lift heavy my hands naturally bend back to better hold onto the weight, is that bad?
>>
>>77195745
What do you imagine is going to keep the bar from falling to the floor if you hold it like the left pic?
>>

My muscles?

Proper wrist position for OHP is between those two pics, something like 45 degrees
>>
>>77195745
No, you have to. Imagine stacking your lower palm over your wrist. If you force yourself to try and hold it like left you will get hurt. Don't listen to shitty e cues from e fitness celeb e fags who repeat stupid shit they heard from another e fag. Keep lifting how you are, you will be fine.

I injure mine because my low bar position for squats has inconsistent flexibility even after a warmup. Bench then aggravates the weakness induced by fucking up my wrists during the squat.
>>
it doesn't matter, do whatever doesn't hurt

Why would you want them to be modest?
