So in my opinions is better to just eat less for a start and the deeper you go into the cut you can eat even less, but take into consideration that you should up the fats and protein and just don't snack in between meals. Pretty simple stuff but it's a good refresher for a guy in his 30's like me who just go through the montions sometimes. Also i used to follow similar advince in my 20's and i was lean af, i think it was charles poliquin that was advocating low carbs aswell at the time for recomping

Insulin is anti-catabolic, and even then you don't need carbs for that, though it is the most effective macronutrient at spiking it.
