anyone try Mentzers routine?
been going down youtube rabbit holes about different ways of lifting. i spend too long at the gym and don't think i get nearly enough recovery time between sessions. i also notice my cortisol is out of control and it affects my recovery. might try just doing 3 30-45 minute HIT per week

There are like 20 completely different ones.

I've tried heavy duty and a few others it. My lifts shot up but they plateaued pretty quick. It's more like I recovered the suppressed 10-15% strength rather than actually made much in the way of gains on it. I only have the patience to run something like that for a season anyway.

I think it's probably more worth it at this point to get a smart watch/fitness tracker that does hrv on waking and few other metrics so you can track recovery by something tangible then build your routine around how many days on average it takes you bounce back to 100% given the amount of work you've noticed you need to improve. Has really helped me nail down sleep and diet stuff as well stopping drinking and nicotine just to improve those numbers and it's came across in my training.

Yes, have been doing it since the start of this year. Only this week Im taking a "cheat week" and doing whatever the fuck I want with as much volume I wish.

BUT, I took the liberty to change a bit some stuff, mainly:
>Working out one day, resting one, working out the next one, resting and so on.
>Two sets until failure instead of one.
>Changed the order of a couple of exercises.

My opinions on HIT so far are:
>Working out until or past failure is the main driving force of muscle growth
>Resting more (hitting a muscle once a week) really does work.
>No need to do too many sets if you are pushing it to the limit.
>You DONT need to do Mike's ideal routine exactly as he says (unless you enjoy it). Add some variation to fit your style and make it more enjoyable.
>Keep a record, write it down. Lets you check your progress, gives you goals and motivation.

Tldr; HIT does work, stick to the basics but tweak it to your liking. Also keep a record of your lifts.
