I do find wide grip pull ups leave me more sore and I feel better "muscle activation" but I think it's because I was used to doing normal/narrow for years. There might be something to hitting a slightly different part/movement and adding some size. It's like switching to a wider grip bench. You still hit pecs. 90% (or more) of the growth is from doing the exercise. You might get some slightly different response from altering your grip a bit, but it's not really going to matter in the big picture.
