Time to bulk! I've been rooning and doing calisthenics for a while now trying to lose weight, but I think I've lost enough to give the gym and bulking another go. I've been thinking of doing 2 months for start. Coincidentally the gym I used to go to is also doing a 60 day summer body challenge, so I had to enter. Follow me on my epic fitness journey!

Background
I lifted a bit in my teens, went from 50 kg to 70 kg (fat). Then I stopped and went back to 50 and eventually got fat up to 80 kg. I had a few attempts at gym in the last few years but always stopped after a month or two because I was only getting fatter at an alarming rate. I realized I had to lose weight and I've been trying for the last ~half year. Was around 70 kg at the start of the year, I can't diet so I focused on cardio, got under 30 mins 5k, usually did a bit of calisthenics afterwards. My weight barely changed but people said I look noticeably thinner.
Not perfect timing, training outside is better in the summer than in winter. So the goal is the gain a little muscle so I can run shirtless in the summer.

Victory challenge
This is the gym's challenge, it had an entry fee, it looked a bit pointless but it's like the universe wanted it. They promised two InBody measurements, before/after photos, 6 different training plans, diet, and what convinced me, gift pack. Sponsors on the site include Red Bull, Scitec and Rio Mare.
InBody is just an electrical impedance scale, like at home. Stood in line for an hour for that shit. I think it said 14% body fat but they didn't even tell me, apparently we only get the results at the end. The photos were a guy taking 3 pictures with his phone, with me in my oversized t-shirt. I guess we can tell at the end if my shirt's changed.
Apparently the gift pack is also only given at the end. I guess the supplement companies didn't want to take responsibility.
20th was the official starting date but the training plans and diet only arrived today. I can even tell what happened, they gave them out to the trainers to do as homework and someone must have been late. Some are bad, some are ok, but they are really like they were done by schoolkids.
It's just so amateurish, can't believe they took money for this but then again they got 200 people to pay for it. Also I'm in a Facebook group now with this 200 fat/old people.

I think it was 66.2 kg, 22% body fat when I started on the 11th on the home scale. InBody said 14%, honestly I think mine is more correct, I used to be 50 kg after all.
Measurements:
arm (flexed): 35
forearm: 28
neck: 35
belly (around navel): 86
waist (sucked in): 74
hip: 88
chest: 96
shoulders: 110
thighs: 52
calf: 35
penis: 12
All in centimeters. Except for penis, that's inches...
Also tried to assess strength level in the first few days.
Lat pulldown: managed to move 80 kg.
Row: surprisingly not that good, tried cable and multiple machines, best was around 60 kg.
Bench press (machine): already struggling with 50 kg, I could go up to 60 if I moved the arms forward.
Shoulder press machine: I got 30 kg, I think.
Didn't do legs because my knee hurt.

Training plan
I had a dilemma here, back in the day I learned you should be doing controlled isolation with moderate weight, but here everyone says heavy compounds. So my solution was I will be doing PPL twice a week, with one set of PPL being isolation, and one more compounds. Except for legs, I'm not doing multiple leg days so it will be a mix of both, but I also plan to run once a week so maybe that counts. Challenge's training plan also seems to be PPL.
So one day where I try to isolate each muscle, high reps like 30 to really feel it, and one where I'm going for like 5 reps. I was thinking 1-2 sets should be enough like this, but so far I always got carried away and did like 4-5 dropsets, I do feel Doms, but prabably junk volume.
I like this idea so I will keep it, maybe modifying the rep counts. Compounds with high reps are just cardio so I can only really work with the isolations. I don't feel them at all, no pump, no burn, I will probably just do them high weight. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, or the exercises aren't good, but I think it just doesn't work like that physiologically, low weights just aren't triggering what I want.

Diet
I won't be stressing about calories, I will be in a surplus for sure, just check out my weight at the end. Only thing I will care about is protein, I will try to get 100 grams a day. Won't cook that much because I live with my parents, whenever I cook and measure it out they eat it even if it's the worst possible shit (picrel). But if I do it will be split peas and chicken liver (picrel), or the usual chicken-rice variations. Won't have vegetables and fruits, I take multivitamin.

Supplements
I will keep it simple for the first month, only protons, Scitec Daliy Vitamin, and Omega-3. Then I will do more, creatine, aminos, maybe pre-workout, to see if they are worth anything.
Also I have a Scitec 20% coupon that expires tomorrow, give me some suggestions what to buy. But they just raised prices retardedly so I'm not sure I will buy anything.

Scitec side quest
A tragic thing has been happening ever since BiotechUSA acquired Scitec, they've been changing the iconic design into the current gay shit. So it's been going for 5 years and mostly done at this point, but for some reason I got this itch to collect old design packaging last year. I went to almost all Scitec shops in and around Budapest without much luck. I looked on the pics on Google maps, they had a few stuff left there. Turns out these pictures uploaded in 2025 were actually taken in 2024. Still I could have got a lot of stuff if I just start one year earlier... Not sure what I wanted to say.

Goals
Any significant change in numbers or look. I was thinking at first maxing out the machines but that's quite far. 100 kg may be realistic for the lat pulldown. Really, if there's any visible change I will be happy. Alternatively I was thinking of getting the negative record in the challenge, but seeing the other contestants, that wouldn't even be funny. I will report back in 2 months if I managed anything or how over it is.

Side quests
I'm not satisfied with my amount of androgenic hair, weak beard and I have one lone chest hair (picrel). So I hope that will improve but realistically I doubt that. Also had some even more far-fetched ideas like getting a job and having sex, but for now I should just focus on getting muscle.

Oh, right. I generated the Scitec coupon when I went around to shop, but it wouldn't work in the stores. Maybe because it was on my Builder account, or maybe shopkeeper guy screwed me because he knew they would raise prices the next day. But now I have it left around.
They have some 30th anniversary limited edition products, but they are nothing special, just new flavors.

I don't know if it's just because I'm not used to it because haven't been going out, but at this point I don't even want to, there's so much of them. In the park, shitting in the street, almost every time there's one on the tram or three, usually just dirty and stinky, sometimes talking to themselves like the woman on Saturday (about how they fuck the women in the army, and something about who will raise the kids?), or even talking to me on Monday. None yesterday, it was raining so I thought they would hide there but no, but again one today, also saw the woman on the way to Lidl.

also do not eat too much in surplus, you will gain weight as fat. the body is tricky cause it'll make you think that extra food is muscle coming on, but it's fat.
the elliot hulse analogy of how much to eat by feel: it feels like you are gaining power, filling up, but then if you eat too much you'll know cause it feels like getting deflated.

eating big feels good for a bit, but don't mistake that for real gains
