Turning 33 in a bit and have been lifting 14 years. Powerlifting, bodybuilding, strongman, done it all, all kinds of stuff in the gym...

I can feel myself starting to slow down a bit, my joints are starting to feel sore, especially the knees and elbows.

How are you guys holding up. might be time to ease off a bit and do higher reps with less weight, more cardio and health stuff.

At no point did opie claim or insinuate to be fat. I know it's a reasonable assumption to make that a 33 year old is fat, seeing as most people's "metabolism slows down" when they hit 30 and their body composition is liable to shift toward the "dadbod" (i.e. beer belly) mode because they just can't stay away from the McDonald's drive-through as they drive home from their $200,000/year WfH job and don't have time to cook before meeting up with their 19 year old fuck buddy, but some of us made it to 36 and retained the fighting weight of a 14 year old japanese school girl via disordered eating so severe it bars us from getting any vagina as we have completely isolated ourselves socially because we can't eat without a spreadsheet.

Until OP posts his six pack with a timestamp, he's a 20% """dadbod""" slob.
That's just how it works, sweaty, guilty until proven innocent.

Lean is indeed law, i'm 33 aswell and i have been bulking for the last 4 years (since 2022) and despite passing 2pl8 bench with ease and getting really strong on ohp and some back machines, I realized non of if matters if you are covered with fat. So right now i'm trying to get lean, nothing else matters

I'm 36. Definitely need to rest a bit more than before. But honestly: running has been a big help. I highly recomend it, and I also reccomend you start way slower than you think. I also don't know how to spell recomennd.

I’m 39.9
Lifting for 15+ years, not super consistently for most of that time though,

Some aches and pains, I do reduced volume these days, I hit everything once a week and I only do 2 or 3 working sets

Damn dude, looking really good.

45 here. No joint issues however I recover from injury far slower, likely exacerbated by lack of sleep.

With that physique you could say 21 and people would believe it. Extremely nice physique!

Feeling better than ever at 30. Looking better than most of my early 20s purely because of less stress and I stopped caring about achievements, career etc because all of it is a meme anyway. I made more off of unearned income last year than my job lmao.

Doing literally anything with your life other than engaging in genetic or medical engineering work is wasted.
Any time doing any thing other than pursuing the immortality that is within our technological grasp is wasted.

I’ve accepted that once I turn 30, I’ll give up on squatting/deadlifting heavy

Life after 30 is a slow-motion suicide without family. It's all the negatives of getting old; watching your friends drift away as they start their own families, your parents and siblings getting old and die, watching everything in your life slowly putter out as the magic fades; without any of the positives of things like family or community to shore you up. Everything rots away and you're left with the bleakness of oblivion, no hope of anything continuing. Anyone who has experienced considerable ageing among his family members (or already in himself), knows how blackpilling it is. It's really rough, once people pass their early 50s (or sometimes even sooner) you start to notice the slip-ups, forgetfulness, the declining of fine motor skills, the difficulties understanding new information. Human existence is a tragedy, there are so few years that you are allowed with full mental and physical strength. Your peak years are mostly wasted with education, where you have barely any control over your own life, because you have little to no money nor autonomy. Add to that the time spent sleeping, working, hygiene, housework, shopping, appointments, visits to the workshop - what do we have left? Everyone who has to work for a living basically leads a precarious existence, regardless of whether they are a simple worker or a well-paid employee. Before they have built up a comfortable fortune and a well established understanding of the world, the body goes downhill.

I turned 40 in March, been lifting 22 years.

When I was very young I tried to be as strong as possible. My metabolism kept me slender as long as my muscle mass was high. Cardio was mostly sprinting and bleachers at the University stadium.

As I got older I started doing more deliberate cardio (more bike rides, jump rope, walks, etc), as well as more bodyweight stuff to keep it interesting. Currently trying to get my pistol squats good.

I still lift 3-5 times a week but don't chase numbers. I don't really follow a program. I have upper body days and lower body days, and lift whatever i feel like i need to that day to get a good pump and then some. My reps and numbers vary more now.... what i can do at the gym is much more dependent on how much sleep I've had and if I've eaten good food vs slop. I'm useless on slop.

But the good news is that my joints are fine, and I'm genuinely leaner / got more muscle mass now than ever before in my life. Current me could absolutely demolish college me. Be smart about things and age doesn't mean much.
