Turns out bacteria can latch onto a valve like that. Thankfully no damage and I'm back to normal, but I was pretty freaked out and lost all my gains in the hospital bed. It's relatively common and nothing really bad except probably a new valve when I'm really old, but I changed my life style for the better over it. Even though I worked out before I knew, I decided to really cut out alcohol and shit foods.
