When did you realize that Starting Strength and Powershitting are absolute memes that make you look disgusting
>>
>twatter screenshot thread
>>
>>77230075
When I first took a look at whats in it. I care about gaining muscle, not looking at big numbers. I also care about having a big upper body, not giant legs and ass. Even from a big numbers perspective, I think a big bench is more impressive than a big squat, so I don't really see why I'd ever pick a program that biases legs.
>>
>>77230075
>trying hard and doing extra work is bad
It's actually pretty easy to do more sets and sessions if you're eating more. Muh leanpill is gay I'd have never gotten this strong if I listened to this shit. I'll fight anyone here drop discord you're full of shit and are probably a redditor. If you show up I'll fight you with 1 hand please stop it.

Sounds like easy money to me.
>>
I always knew this because I find the look of big quads to be very repulsive. As does anyone with a sense of aesthetics and most women as well.
>>
>>77230075
starting strength isn't a meme, but it's a 6-month program designed for lanklets to build a strength base from which they can pivot to sport-specific training or even body building. your body composition, even as a young twink, shouldn't change much under SS

does his book tell nattys to eat 5000 kcal/day or is that just something people decided to do on their own?

I actually think starting strength is good for anyone who didn't play sports in school and is starting off at absolute zero. Thats what it is designed for. You just need to do something else once you can bench your body weight or whatever
>>
>>77230143
what is this meme that you're only strong if "you played sports in school"?
I lift at a college gym and the baseball, soccer, and basketball players are all dyel and weak as fuck. Football team has their own gym or something so I cant speak for them,

It's 100000% on you if you look like shit powerlifting and you're 1000% a genelet who wouldnt have made it doing brosplit or whatever
Powerlifters and olympic lifter training methods overlap to a certain degree and a lot of people under the 95kg male category looks ripped/aesthetic in both sports
Curls and pushdowns and skull crushers and ab work are what mostly defines aesthetic and they are also great accessories. You have no one to blame but yourself for not picking one of the hundreds of powerlifting programs that are borderline "powerbuilding" and instead sticking to a beginner 3 months program meant to teach you how to deal with barbells for years

Because they need to be that way in parallel with their sports. They wouldnt struggle if they start a strength building journey like untrained randos would. nope not the same guy. I just know what works for natural bodybuilders. my arms were stuck for more than a year at 17 inches doing the pump and fluff bullshit. I started squatting and the jumped to 18.5. also as a result of squatting my deadlift jumped too. if you are a natural bodybuilder SS->Texas Method/Madcow will server you better than anything else.

You:

and 2 hours later, you don't even look like you've ever lifted weights in your entire life. you look small because you lift small.

I don't understand why people shit on Starting Strength so much. You get on it and in 6 months or so you achieve some good baseline strength to do whatever you want to do. Body fat % can be reduced to looking good levels in a month or two, and you can tailor your program to be upper body dominant afterwards. It is not like you are married to it.

I don't think it's the actual program, what you said is true. It has to do with the culture surrounding it and the cult-like mentality. Getting lean and in shape, doing cardio, or god forbid anything other than doing low-bar squats and drinking gallons of milk was shit on for over a decade.

> It is not like you are married to it

This is 100% true with the program, but the people on reddit and /fit/ became obsessed with it and it became weird. Overall it's fine, do it for 6 months and move on.
>>
>>77230368
I'm not the guy who posted the pic in this thread above. clearly, the guy who did reposted that pic. it doesn't change the fact the squats > deads > bench are critical to getting big as a natural. the best programs for young indians like yourself is SS-> Texas Method

>>
>>77230352
You can make solid progress in 6 months on virtually any program as long as it has built in progressive overload and you consistently follow it. I've yet to hear a coherent argument for why you should start with a leg-focused powerlifting program over a beginners bodybuilding program that actually focuses on your goals.

>>

yes they did. granted I wasn't only squatting. but as a natural lifter (I wouldn't call myself a bodybuilder because I've never competed) putting an emphasis on squatting and not the pump and fluff added even more size to my frame. obviously, my thighs and glutes got larger, but so did my arms, neck, and like I said pulling became a lot easier. suddenly weights that were hard to pull started shooting right up. so yes maybe pulling heavier on deads caused my arms to grow too, but the increase in that was initiated by squatting heavy and making it the cornerstone of my training.

how many calories do you think a gallon of milk is
>>
>>77230582
>yes they did.
no, they didn't. your programming changed and it happened to include squatting. squatting improving your deadlift makes sense, but pulling heavier on deads didn't take your arms from 17" to 18.5" either. your arms and neck did not get bigger by receiving 0 stimulus while your legs got worked. that's literally beyond broscience kek, there's not even a tenable mechanism for what you're describing. most likely, your exercise volume/selection/ordering or diet/recovery changed. sorry bro, glad you got the arms you wanted but don't go telling people you understand natural bodybuilding if you think they should squat for bigger arms

Try something like this:
Workout 1:
Bench Press
Row
Squat

Workout 2:
Overhead Press
Chin Up
Deadlift

Alternate between the two with at least 1 day of rest between them. Work out at least 3 days a week. 3 sets of each exercise before moving onto the next, 8-12 reps upper body exercises and 4-8 reps lower body exercises. Stop at the upper bound on the first 2 sets and do as many as possible on the last one. When you can do at least the upper bound in all 3 sets in a given exercise, increase the weight by 5lbs (or 10lbs of legs the first little while) the next time you do the exercise. For the first while you will be increasing the weight every time you do it. When first starting, start with just the bar and increase the weight by 10lbs every set until you are unable to complete the upper bound in a set. The weight you were at before then is your starting working weight wherein you only increase by 5 or 10lbs each day you do thst workout.

>>
>>77230746
Thanks for the suggestion.
Any specific reason for 3 sets of 8-12 reps? I heard a lot of people recommend 5x5, or does it make no difference since the final number of push/pulls/lifts ends up almost the same? Also how much wait time between reps?
>>
>>77230773
Fewer reps at a higher weight is for strength. A midline rep count at a midline weight is for getting bigger. Lots of reps (like 20 or even 30) at a low weight is for endurance. The volume you're getting on 3x8-12 is lower in an individual workout accounting for the lower weight, but ideally you are doing each workout 2 or 3 times a week rather than 1.5 times like SS, so weekly volume will be a lot higher and that matters more than volume in an individual workout.

Wait time depends on how much time you are willing to spend in the gym. 3 minutes is the typical standard. If you want to spend less time you can go again as soon as you catch your breath, but the general wisdom is that the longer your rest the more your recovery and thus the better your performance.
>>
>>77230784
Thanks again for the explanation.
As for time, my only real limit is the closing time since I only have time to go at around 5:30-6:00pm and it closes at 8:00, but so far I have been doing 5x5 with 2-3mins and time has not been an issue at all.
One last question, I was doing a session of light cardio at the end of the session, just enough to raise heartrate and get the blood pumping, no high intensity. Any issues with that?
>>
>>77230813
No issues you should keep doing it

>>77230282
>skip leg day
every day is leg day, idiot. the whole point is to do exercises that work out your entire body through natural movement, not try and find a perfect ratio of isolation exercises. when you train bodyweight, using any external weights (fractional weights of like 0.5 lbs ea) is an advanced technique because gravity makes it possible to exponentially increase difficulty without any weights at all. also, if you want a juicy ass, do handstands not squats. you need to clench your ass to balance correctly

People who weren't on /fit/ 15 years ago don't realise just how hard SS was shilled on the internet. There was an entire generation who was tricked into training like powerlifters when they just wanted to be aesthetic.
>>
>>77231772
You dont need to go that far, in 2018 even /pol/ started pushing for it because it sounds like the SS corps obviously. Any time anyone would mention fitness even loosely they would get at least replies telling them to do SS+GOMAD and most of them were dead serious about it.
>>
>>77230075
You don't do SS to look a certain way. The reason it was shilled is because it's a good base builder for both strength and overall size and teaches you the main lifts. Anyone who ended up looking like shit either stuck to it for too long or never did any accessories. I think there are better and more balanced beginner programs, but it's just retarded to say "hurr I did this program for x months and now I look like shit" as if that one program should have already built you an aesthetic physique after you finish it once. It doesn't matter what program you start with, when you finish it you're still years away from a good physique.

You’re all a bunch of autists who take things at face value instead of trying to understand the philosophy behind it or your a bunch of lazy retards that want a one-size-fits all program that you can blindly follow like the lemmings that you are.

SS is for crippling nerds or teaching them about intensity and coordination, it's not a bodybuilding program it's a filter for developing the correct mindset when it's time to move big boy weights in big boy lifts. If you can get a noob to actually run his squat semi-safely to true failure then anything that comes after seems trivial. You can argue the minutia of lift choices and efficiencies but none of it matters if the person can't step on the throttle when it's appropriate to do so.
>>
You can do legs like twice a month and they'll still look well proportioned. 3x a week is hysterical.

It's the exact opposite LMAO

SS and its predecessors were built in the world of Texas high school football. They are built around taking genetic mutant 15 year olds, who have always been the biggest most athletic guys on the playground, and turning them into absolute freak tanks for the o-line

It's almost an okay program for absolute beginner unathletic couch potato people, but they would be better off with technically easier to perform lifts. Goblet squats and dumbbell bench for instance. And include some aesthetics work in there too

I ran SS and did fine on it, but now that I'm decently strong I can look back and say the barbell fetish is ODD. Barbells are awesome, convenient training tools when you're actually strong. Not when you're starting out
>>
>>77230075
>no refunds lol
Seriously, though, SS is an innocuous program for beginners. Better ones exist, but it’s fine. If you don’t want a big ass, don’t do squats his way. On the whole, I do not feel sorry for anyone who followed his diet recommendations, those are absolutely ludicrous and will make you a fat fuck.
>>
>>77230104
Absolute truth. Run SS until the novice linear progression is done, then start blasting gear.

I still deadlift, squat 2-3 times per week, flat barbell bench is all I do for chest and I do my overhead pressing standing. I now do a lot more chinups, pullups, direct arm work and some shoulder flyes and and strangers literally call me a bodybuilder. Foids think I compete.

SS is an outstanding fucking program to build strnegth and overall development. But if you want to look like an actual bodybuilder, you will probably need to blast gear OR be genetically gifted.

If youre of normal height and weren't a star athlete in High School who had options to play at the Div 1 or Div 2 level, you probably do not have good genetics. So just get on gear.
