I'm trying to save money on gas and there's one of these 10 minutes away by bike (as opposed to 40 minutes by bike to my current gym)
No freeweights obviously, which sucks because I prefer not to use machines but whatevs
>>
>no freeweights
lol how is that even a thing. america is surreal
invest in home gym equipment, paying for a gym with machines only soudns like an awful deal
>>
>>77233769
just left my PF early because I didn't feel like fighting the horde of she-whales and gym bunnies to use a single leg machine. Small town gyms have to be better than this, I leave home at the crack of dawn to beat them there and it's still hell.
>>
>>77233769
They are franchises, a few do have real benches and squat racks, not just smith machines.
Quality and cleanliness vary wildly by location
The real downside is the low quality clientele as it is the cheapest gym, if you can ignore the shitties then try it out
>>
>>77233788
Dumbells are free weights fyi, and you can't have their pricing plan AND leave yourself open to dumbass lawsuits and insurance claims.
>>77233769
Every gripe about PF is fucking stupid. The only legit ones are 1) some of them still obnoxiously cling to the rules, heavily depends on your area, mine has never used the lunk alarm, gym bags, and scantilu dressed midtier hoes everywhere. And 2) smith machines & machines with pretty low weight limits. Most of the ones in mine cap out at 270lbs. So are you going to reaching elite lifting levels in there, probably not. Could you still get jacked by normie standards? Oh hell yes.
>>
>>77233769
idk. I'm a lunk and my kind isn't welcome in that establishment.
>>
>>77233897
And let's be honest here, like 1% of the /fit/tards could max out all of a PF.
>>
>>77233788
Some locations have added full racks with barbells. OP just go check it out and see how it is. I switched to PF when I got laid off. It’s been basically the same as any other commercial gym I’ve ever trained at. I’ve just had to switch any barbell lifts to the smith machine. Mine has dumbbells up to 75 lbs, which isn’t a lot but it’s enough if you know ways to progress with more limited weight

>>77233886
Mine is in the hood in CA so it’s 99% Latina milfs and Edgars
>>
>>77233903
Maybe it is my joint configuration but machines do not stimulate my shit like dumbbells in regards to my chest,
>>
>>77233769
The first time I lifted heavy and some fat bitch pressed the Lunk Alarm, I would do something that would get me banned for life.
>>
>>77233788
I only use machines if I can because on machines, you can set up instantly, switch weights instantly, push as hard as you want and get partial lifts without losing form
It's a shame that acting like an feral animal is frowned upon in PF. That's the only thing.
>>
Go to a real gym.
>>
>>77233811
Not just the leg machine. Every fucking machine has women lined up and using it incorrectly, and every single time the girl is doing some low weight meme ass exercise. I have never seen a woman do a single pull-up but every single one of them is leg pressing the pull-up machine even when the leg press machine is just 5 feet away.
>>
>>77233886
I go to one because I am able to go in off peak hours when it is half empty and completely fine. Otherwise it is absolutely not worth it if you have to mix with all the riff raff
>>
If it's one of the PFs with no barbells, it's bad. If it's one of the PFs with barbells, it's good (since it's so cheap).
>>
How do I get a job at planet fitness bros? I really want to work at one. Going to work out there is the highlight of my day anyway I might as well just work there.
>>
>>77234358
Start saying hi to the staff, learn their names, strike up casual conversations then after getting chummy with them ask if they have any openings.
>>
>>77233769
It’s 90% treadmills
>>
>>77233769
I'm currently going to PF because my local gym raised their rates a lot and I needed to save some money. The one I go to has freeweights, it has a squat rack, and a smith machine. It's a fairly small location though so it sucks when it's busy. The other gym goers are interesting. At mine, if I go during the early evening (between 4 and 6) it's a pretty normally crowd of boomers/xoomers doing cardio. After 7:30, the clientele becomes more like a Walmart. It's amusing for people watching.

Ultimately, if you have the cash/space to do a home gym then go that route. If you're tight on cash or space, then it's definitely an option if your location isn't total ass.
>>
>>77233769
>No freeweights obviously
How is this even possible? Even state gyms have these.
>>
One opened up by me recently so I snagged the $20/mo black card deal. I take my gf or my roommate with me for free and the one I like going to has a squat rack and tons of machines as opposed to a fucking sea of treadmills. No lunk alarm bullshit either.

Only time I had to wait for something was when some crossfitter decided to spend 45 min on the one deadlift rack doing some stupid box jump deadlift circuit.
>>
>>77233769
Nothing wrong with PF unless you're an actual bodybuilder. If you're just a bro looking to get fit for cheap, it'll do.
>>
>>77233897
>you can't have their pricing plan AND leave yourself open to dumbass lawsuits and insurance claims.
I used to go to a crunch fitness that was 15 bucks a month and had free weights and even lifting platforms so you definitely can
>>
>>77233769
Not bad actually. My local gym here in Texas got bought out by them because of the size. I kept my membership because they literally sent us a letter saying that we will change nothing about your gym except new equipment. Since this is Texas and people do not like PF faggotry like in other states, they didn't say this outright, but the "off the books" attitude was, "we will not do the lunk alarm crap, rainbow flags, anti-fat shaming BS". Trust me. When the announcement was made that PF bought our gym (It was a local 3 location chain), people were pissed that a new progressive gym was coming. It's pretty nice though. The machinery is immaculate.

There's nothing wrong with planet fitness. They even recently added full racks and barbells. So now they've got way more equipment, and they're 24/7 in many places.
