retarded beginner here. i've started deadlifting 150kg for 5 reps now and i noticed people like you guys use belts on deadlifts and squats. i don't feel any pain or discomfort after doing those 2 and i was wondering if there's any real benefit to using one or if it's just kind of cheatin and i should just keep goin beltless. pretty nice lifts btw

A belt gives your back stability. When you lift heavy your core gets big and strong. Eventually just by bracing your core your abs will push against your spine and kid of dislodge it from the inside. Just enough so your back is a bit off center and snaps your shit up.

It's like having your lower back to a wall. Makes it easier to keep things tight in your gut/back. Heavy lifts surprisingly take a lot of focus out of you and if that slight bit of form is one less thing to worry about, you won't be distracted and can focus on the movement.

Had wierd yo-yos with what I could lift with diddly. Overall lagging my squat by abt 80lbs but one day I could do 295x10 then next time I'm struggling to do 305x4.
Finally gave in and brought my tripod to the gym to film and found out my shit isn't centered in the trap bar (I'm not blowing out my back again) and I've been pulling J-shaped paths the entire time.
Anyone have good queues besides mid-foot, lats-engaged, and elbows pushed forward and out to get a good pre-tension? Ran a video through grok and it said my hips were too high and I'm not loading my hamstrings enough, but youtube videos for tall lifter DLs suggest my starting hip height is fine. Rn plan is a small 20% DL and work back up filming everything and being super intentional.
