What bench press impresses you irl?

Are you ever impressed by 30+ people pushing 3 plates or just kind of go "oh, I guess he isn't a complete failure"?

Is you being impressed heavily dependent on fat level?
>>
I dunno... I guess 315? I see people benching 1-2 plates and some change everyday, but I only ever double take when it's 315... Which seems to only be two people at my gym, this gorilla mode black man that works out with a Mexican.
>>
For me to be impressed by someone’s lift, not just bench press, they need to be 1) not fat and 2) not have shit form. More weight is definitely impressive, but a lean aesthetic dude who probably weighs around 150-160lb benching +315lb strict for 1 rep is way more impressive than a bloat lord benching 315lb for reps. Nothing is more unimpressive than watching a fat bloated retard bounce 315lb off his tits. Like cool bud, you got fat, if I decided to permabulk too I could do the same.
>>
You are gonna call me a retarded dyel but when i see someone who isn't a fatty benching 2pl8 + i gain respect for him
>>
>>77238857
I have never seen anyone benching 315, and most who are benching 2pl8s are usually kinda fat
most lean people I see usually hover around 155 to 185
>>
>>77238894
Most people just ain't hitting 1rm or training near it either. My last 1rm 3 months ago was 290, and I haven't put over 255 on the bar since. Vast majority of peoples training is a good 20% below 1rm arguably 30%, unless you're in a strength sport focused gym.

Benching 100lb dbs for reps

My goal
>>
>>77238845
This x100, if they bench 3pl8 but also weigh 300 pounds, then it means nothing to me. They must also excel at another lift, like squatting or deadlifting. It's not hard to get a good bench if thats your only compound lift you do.

2pl8 for reps and sets with what >>77238845 said will always be nice to see at your local gym, and I'll add on the qualifier that the guy isn't obviously roiding. 275-295lbs for just 1 or maybe a few reps in a single max set will also always be impressive, and not just because I fall into that range myself. I honestly don't remember if I've ever seen a lean guy do a raw full rom 3pl8 bench for even a single rep at any of my gyms, but of course that would be very impressive.
>>
>>77238857
I’m the same way. I am more impressed by anybody who can bench just as much or more than my 1rm (275)
>>
>>77238857
Agreed
If you're not fat and can bench 2 plates, I think you're doing very well.
>>
Good reps with 2pl8 with correct technique. You won't see anyone doing that often inb4 you go to some elite gym, but on normie gyms and half of people going there are build in a way that it can take somewhere between lifetime and never happening to achieve it.

Naturally there are multipliers as in if your body weight is less than 2pl8 it's more cool, but if we go that route then we can also add points for having long arms and small rib cage or whatever where someone technically moves the weight twice the distance or shit.
>>
>empty bar
Not bad not good, average guy
>1pl8
Whoa... he's strong! Been training for awhile, almost always strongest guy in the room, probably humble/embarrassed if you point it out. Would (and have) mire.
>1.5pl8
World class-- this guy is a beast. Most don't reach this level. Been lifting over half his life. A real one.
>2pl8
Elite lifter. World class. Almost certainly roids. Pecs make this guy an H cup, not flexed. Would not be able to keep my pants on near him... if I ever met someone like this.

It depends on their frame and leverages.

I find anything over 2pl8 respectable as long as the dude isn't obese and is actually doing full reps. I genuinely don't see the point when people do a massive arch, insanely wide grip and barely move the bar an inch

>>77238845
Based, I agree with everything in this post. It's funny that back in the day everyone mocked Marc Steubing for his dive bomb technique where he bounced it off his chest, but now you have fat retards boasting about their "PR" with that technique on instagram

>>77238830
250+ for reps with good form.
If you are over 6'2" or 300 pounds you better be putting up bodyweight, min for reps.

What's the equivalent for dumbells?
I prefer them over the bar, but I don't know what's considered strong.
You never see anyone even touch the 40kg ones for example.
>>
>>77238845
>if I decided to permabulk too I could do the same
Yep. When I weighed 295lbs, my heaviest ever, I benched 3pl8 for 5 and I wasn't even training that consistently or programming in a smart way. On a good week I'd show up at the gym 2 days. It's easy to put up heavy weight when your bodyweight is that high, be it from muscle or fat - mass moves mass. As a former fatty I see how unimpressive it is when fatties put up big weight.
>>
>>77240751
I'd say 30kg/65# for over 5x5 min is the benchmark for respectable.
If you can do 35kg/75# for 5x5 in <10 minutes with proper form I consider you strong.
>>
>>77240758
It's crazy for me how 70kg total with dumbbells (2 dumbbells at 35 each) somehow feels as heavy as 100kg on a barbell
>>
>>77240775
Stabilizers are much more engaged. Analogous to how the same weight on a Smith machine feels lighter, if you can get around the fact that it is fucking up your natural bar travel path.
I hit lmao3pl8 on bench a few years ago and at that point benching even 3x3 with 90# dumbbells was a legit struggle.
>>
>>77240758
Aw hell yeah.
I can do 35kg on each hand (topped at 38.5kg when I was fat). I always thought it wasn't much because of the bar equivalent.
>>
>>77238830
Who cares what other people are doing
>>
2pl8 bench for reps
and
3pl8 squat for reps
and
flat belly/thinish waist
and
head full of hair
>>
how would you know theyre 30+? why would you look at another person benching unless theres no other benches available?
>>
i'm not impressed by bench at all, i think its a shit exercise possibly the shittiest exercise and i don't get the faux-macho obsession with it.
Lots of pro bodybuilders agree,
I just do smith machine bench as thats recommended by the pros.
>>77240796
the smith machine isn't lighter you just need to learn to fucking count. Find out the weight of the bar then add the plate weight. Its usually 10kg not 20kg
