lifting weights increases dopamine and opioid activity in the mesolimbic system, creating a pleasurable sensation from resistance training once properly conditioned. with that in mind, whats stopping me from overcoming my aversion to it by just getting high while i lift? surely this should train my brain to associate lifting with pleasure.

Seems like getting high afterwards as a reward would work best, people usually have trouble carrying out a task when the reward has already been given.

Sorry to say this, but that's not remotely how it works.

If you seriously want to speculate on such things, you'll have to read books like these first: https://global.oup.com/ushe/product/behavioral-neuroscience-9780197616857

do whatever you want to do but dont pretend you are doing this for any other reason other than to just get high. get high if you want to get high, dont be so gay about it

I legit don’t think it’s possible for someone who started lifting after their body became fully developed to ever enjoy lifting weights

I started at 15 years old and I’m 38 now and I’m still obsessed with it, I love it, love the feeling of moving heavy weights for low reps and also the feeling of high rep pumps

Every single person I’ve brought to the gym over the years has never lasted more than a couple weeks or months before they give up though, they say they can’t handle it and it doesn’t feel good

I’ll never understand those people but they all have one thing in common, they start lifting for the first time in their 20’s after their physical development ended.

Every one I know who lifts for life they all started as teens during their growth phase

I started at 27. 8 years later and it's still the one thing around which the rest of my life revolves. Dynamic strength carries over to jiujitsu so well and I'll never willingly let this progress go.

I control and dominate every 3 stripe white belt who out weighs me by 60 lbs, and I can reliably beat every non-competitor blue belt. This isn't due to my jiujitsu being awesome, because my jiujitsu is just vaguely competent. What it is is the fact that I'm so much stronger than anyone around my weight class, particularly in weighted pullups. I've yet to meet the man who can posture up in my guard once I've established collar grips and forcefully yanked them unto a sweep.

You'll be too relaxed and not be able to put in max effort and also probably be unfocused and hurt yourself
