what is Pilates really? is it weird yoga? stretching? rehabilitation?
I don't understand pilates.
>>

Depends, do you mean pilates as created by Joseph Pilates back in the day, or do you mean "pilates" as practiced by suburban strip mall yoga studios?
>>
>>77253462
what I've seen looks like mild training, for elder people or rehab. I don't know if that's the real thing or not because I don't know about pilates and I don't understand it.
>>

Pilates is a training system focused on postural control and core stability; while it gained fame in US through dancers using it for injury recovery, its origins actually trace back to the rehabilitation of war veterans. Done right, it's no joke. Pic rel is a famous italian dancer who only does pilates.

>only does pilates
And roids

he has beautiful gay eyes
i'll stick to the weights

I do Pilates on my off days. It fixed my posture like nothing else, I don't have pain in my hip any more and my core is tight and rock hard. For me, it's much better than yoga, and at times much harder.
It compliments weight lifting extremely well, imo.

pilates + weightlifting is the best combo
i felt physically the best in my life doing this
>>

Can you give me an overview of your pilates routine or show me where you got it from?
I'm coming fresh out of a major surgery and doc told me to take it easy, no weightlifting for a couple months but I can do some low impact shit like walking, stationary bike, yoga/pilates, etc
I see it as a good opportunity to try something new

I don't know about his routine but you can check youtube for "classic pilates mat routine" or "34 classic pilates exercises" or something like that, should get you the original stuff that doesn't require weird equipment.
>>

Yeah but theres millions of those. Id rather cut to the chase and have another anon point to one he personally had good results with

seconding this.
not out of lazyness but because there's too much bullshit out there I rather have some good advice already instead of watching a thousand woman doing shitty yoga
>>

I have a book (in German) with 50 Workouts and I do one every week. It comes with illustrations, but you'd have to read the explanations because breathing and moving the right way are important. So, no idea how much it would help you.
If you look for videos yourself, see if they explain the movements, basic positions and patterns enough, or if they just show stuff.
Sorry that I couldn't help much.
You could have a look here https://old.reddit.com/r/pilates/wiki/index (yeah, I know, Reddit and stuff) maybe you find something there.

nice thanks, I'll look into this and create a routine

>I don't know if that's the real thing or not
Its mostly the real thing.
The OG was intended for war veteran rehab. You lose a arm, or you spend a few month healing up after taking non lethal shrapnel.

The entire idea is that you separate out exertion from standing, so you can correctly gauge how much needs to be fixed.
And actually having a exercise set that can be done form zero, which is not the case if you try something like starting strength.
>>
>>77254055
Can confirm. Pilates is amazing and the perfect compliment to weight training. Posture and core strength are better than ever. Pilates is based.
>>
>>77254536
Yeah there are millions, but the 34 exercises are the same, that's the point. So just pick one and learn the 34 exercises.
>>
>>77257292
so pilates is just a few exercises with variations?
>>
>>77257397
Technically, the goal is to create flowing transitions from one exercise to the next, so that you are in a constant flow during the 20-40 minutes of a workout. The goal is to control your movements and breathing as best as possible.
>>
>>77257621
youre talking about vinyasa yoga, not pilates
real pilates is done on reformer machines and has nothing to do with "flow"
>>
>>77258051
I'm not talking about Yoga, but like many other disciplines, Pilates has undergone iterations, too. There's Pilates on mats, because not everyone has stuff like a Cadillac at home.
>>
>>77253443
It's something people with vaginas practice
>>
I'd really like to try Pilates with a reformer but the classes are like $300 and I'd get a boner and fart a lot
