I’m too uncoordinated and weak to do barbell squats with proper technique. Can I substitute them with goblet squats for now?

you can unironically do what ever you want. none of this fucking matters.

Is your goal to be able to do barbell squats?
>>
>>77255142
I just want to grow my thighs. I have barbells, dumbbells and kettlebells available
>>
Squats are shit do horse stance and sprints
>>
Do zercher squats

Goblet squats are fine for people still getting into lifting. Their problem is just that balance and getting into position become difficult once you start needing a lot of weight. But there are a million other squat-based movements you could try if goblets and barbell squats aren't currently working for you: leg press, BSS, Smith machine squats, hack squats, belt squats, pendulum squats... just find one that feels like you can do good form with and slowly overload.

Well you can start with goblet squats then. Even bodyweight squats or squats with a broomstick or any stick-like object that is lighter than barbell is an ok starting point to get you accustomised to the body mechanisms for the real squats.

Buy Harbinger Dip Belt. Put aerobic step in front of functional trainer, a few inches back. Put pulley at lowest. Attach belt chain to carabiner on pulley. Stand on step. Squat with belt around hips. Ignore weird looks.
>>
Try box squats. Sit on the edge a bench or stool and slide yourself off of it so that you are in a deep squat position or at least below parallel and then grab the dumbbells off the floor and stand up. Try to control your descent until you sit back down and then put the weights on the ground again. Rinse and repeat. It takes like 3x as long but it's very easy and safe.

Speaking of exercise variations, how are dumbbell OHP compared to barbell? Does it miss out on anything besides the finer weight control you get with bar?
>>
>>77255759
Dumbbells are harder and work the traps better, especially if you do it 1 handed and lean slightly to get a longer stretch (like if you are pressing with your left hand, tilt your side slightly to the right)

Going heavy on barbell just looks cooler

I see, thanks.
What about sitting DB vs standing? Any major differences besides sitting making it easier to maintain posture?

There are better ways

Seated is perfectly fine and it's safer anyways. Doing em while standing will make you feel like your back is gonna snap if you aren't conditioned to that much weight above your spine, it just ain't worth it unless you're trying to get into powerlifting.

Is he belt squatting that barbell?
>>
>>77256339
Yeah. Just put one side on a spotter arm with a plate or two as a counterweight. Then the other side a bit lower on a J-hook, with your working weight. Use two clips, one to keep the plates on and the other to stop your belt sliding off.

Thanks for the info man, I'm still afjusting my routine with the variants that feel most natural to me but without missing out on targeted muscle groups.
