Do these plates give me enough elevation for meaningful calf raises or should I risk stacking another plate on top? Any other equipment I can use to get a deeper calf raise?
Get a proper calf block. You won’t
>>77258082No. You need an extra inch or two. Also if you're going to train calves it's best to do it on a machine so you can really load the calves with as much weight as possible. You can do toe press on the leg press machine or pendulum squat machine if your gym doesn't have a dedicated calf raise machine.
>>77258125Yea they're very minimalist at my gym. I do Calf Raises on the leg press as well but I feel it more standing up. They have a seated calf raise machine but it hurts my feet (wah)
>>77258186>>77258125If your gym has it, linear hack squat machine is the best way to do standing calf raise. Also your calves are huge so I don't wanna tell you how to suck eggs, but you're leaving gains on the table if you don't do both seated and standing raises.I do calves twice a week since they recover fast, alternating between heavy sets of 10 seated then lighter sets of 15 standingandheavy sets of 10 standing then lighter sets of 15 sittingif seated hurt your feet maybe keep them at a low weight and just blast reps
>>77258328Thanks my man. I’ll up my reps on the machines
>>77258788That's a lot of retardation. Anon, hate to bring it to you, but yoy take is idiotic. Calves are to muscles, one work primarly when your leg is straight, the other when it's bent. You don't injure your muscles in any way.
>>77258082if your gym has a squat machine like this, you can use the flat part for calf raises. you can also do leg press calf raises to get full ROMalternatively those thick rogue bumper plates would work, they might spread your feet weirdly far apart though
>>77258082Serious question, do people do standing calf raises with "free" barbells or dumbbells? I have an insanely hard time maintaining balance when doing that. With dumbbells or a hexbar its almost doable but I still have to regularly slow down to keep balance and so I just end up tiring out my feet while I try not having to step down from the block every other rep. Even without weights I usually use one hand to hold on to something. Only one location of my gym has dedicated standing calf raise machine, at the others I have to use a block under a smith machine which takes time to set up and I'm autistic about it's positioning and my angles so I tend to waste a couple minutes getting everything just right. That also causes me to hog the machine until I'm finished because I can't let anyone work in since then I'd have to painstakingly set everything up just right again.
>>77258823the gastroc plays a much bigger role in ankle flexion than it does in knee flexion. psoas schizo, we are all glad you moved on from bending backwards until you fall over to dragging your ass along the floor with your feet, but adults are speaking about grown-up exercises right now.
>>77258812Not quite anon, Soleus is active during both, but gastroc is suppressed while seatedThere's an interesting study here about it here:https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/physiology/articles/10.3389/fphys.2023.1272106/fulltl:dr see pic rel>>77258830just about every single leg press machine can be used to do standing, I'd never use free weights for the reasons you gave.Maybe you could do seated with a barbell, but standing no.
>>77258823>psoas schizo detected
>>77258830>>77258837actually, thinking about it further you could do single leg calf raise and hold a single DB/kettlebell and use your other hand to hold something
>>77258830OP here. I used to do it with a Smith machine at my old gym but the gym i go to now has much less equipment. They have six power racks though, which is what I was looking for
>>77258788Sounds like some nippard-level bs. Instead of all this science-based jazz, why don't you just show your calves and we can compare to OP?
>>77258082The only way to grow calves.is weighted walking. that's why fatties that lose weight generally have giant calves.
>>77259071Not sure why you think I'm roided but I guess it's a compliment? I honestly dont care what your calves look like but to the other guys point, you havent posted proof that your routine is any better than mine.
>>77258830 #Donkey calf raises have been super effective for me personally. They are very stable. Amazing loading potential with a heavy weight pin + dip belt. I just stand on 2 cement blocks and get a great range of motion
All im getting from this thread is that weighted walking/rucking is the only way to build calves. Calf raises do nothing. Is dis dey whey?
>>77259839Nice balls, homey
>>77259842Considering nobody has posted pics of their success, I'd go with OP if you want calves like his or do whatever anyone else says and take that risk
Lmao that weird guy deleted all his posts

bruh
>>77258082you want as deep a stretch as possible and that ain't doing it. I've recently become a big fan of doing them on leg press machines. super deep lenghed partials
>>77258082>having to train calfsLol you little kids grew up at a healthy weight and it shows. I have the legs of a Greek God because I grew up tubby. Sucks to suck!
>>77259842>>7726075110 years of rucking with 150lb of extra weight
>fatties have great calves because they walk everywherethen they wouldn't be fat
>>77260763Post calves
>>77260751No separation. You have fat calves, not muscular calves.
>>77261125post calves
>>77261146Sure
